I pulled the trigger on one this weekend, and man I'm glad I did. I will only get Sony tvs and I knew I wanted this model. But it's definitely not cheap. Although best buy has then on sale. I also got the 65 inch, and after spending some time getting the settings to my liking it's an amazing TV. Even games that have been out a few years look great. Played wonderlands and BF5, and it's amazing looking. I came from a Sony 900e that I've had awhile, and what a difference. People say it doesn't get bright enough but I have no problem gets plenty bright for me
Also you mentioned brightness, I just like to put it on vivid mode and it looks good. I think there’s also a great anti reflective coating and there’s definitely less glare
Ciao. Sono indeciso tra LG G3, Samsung s95c e questo Sony A83L, chiaramente 65”. Credo siano meglio i primi due come pannello, ma il Sony è senz’altro migliore a livello di audio. Ne vale la pena preferire quest’ultimo? Grazie
@@Cons2911I have it as well. The shadow details are much better than my lg OLED it replaced. Brightness (both low and high) is not an issue with this set unless you have a TON of light in the room. Even then, it should be fine but you may want to look at a Samsung or lg G series. Still, the A80l is a phenomenal tv with the sharpest picture I have ever seen. It looks like they are in the room with you it’s so realistic.
Had mine for ten days now, sometimes makes a weird glitchy noise when scrolling through apps, videos on TH-cam etc, is it just mine or is it a known issue ?
I went to bestbuy today after returning a qn85c 'that I hated' and that a80l definitely keeps catching my eye. Even with the 90/95c samsungs, it does look a bit dimmer, but the 80l has really good depth to the image. The other one that really impressed me was the U8K, I think after trying a x90l and the qn85c, that the U8K is the only mini led worth buying. The U8K is the only lcd hanging with oleds, other then the qm8 and both brands 7 series, Samsung and Sony are definitely on the oled train and staying.
Absolutely. I’m not sure why every reviewer is so obsessed with kits. This tv is bright enough for anything you’d watch on it. Wouldn’t be great to have if you have windows opposite of you, but other than that it handles bright room well.
I have 77 A80 L and dont have option of Bravia core setting. How did you get it? Do you have to sign into google which I have not? Yes would like to see your settings for HDR
Me too but not holding my breath, I want to upgrade my 55 “ a80j to a larger size and wasn’t too impressed with the a80l, seemed too “samely”. I just know the answer is qd oled for a significant difference in performance.
I bought the Sony A80L 77 inch. As far as movies go, excellent. However the quality of old school TH-cam videos upscaling isn’t really that good. I have a high end Samsung 1080p tv from 2014 and tbh sports and TH-cam streaming old vids are surprisingly better. If Sony is the “best” at upscaling that’s sorta disappointing that a 1080p tv out performs it in terms of 1080p content like sports looks off. Especially from TH-cam highlights. Do you have any suggestions or is this just from the result of upscaling?
I find on Dolby vision that even in Dolby vision bright the picture is wayyyyy too dark and Netflix calibrated even with the settings trying to brighter the picture is still to dark in Dolby vision I use the vivid mode and then adjust the picture settings accordingly and get a fantastic picture it may not be as director intended but is alot better than either of the Dolby vision modes and then the picture quality is fantastic, I have a low to medium light environment and find the picture is bright enough for me I had a LG65C3 evo it was slightly brighter but i returned it for the sony xr-65a80l and i'm Soooo happy I did the sony is alot better more cinematic and overall a better TV
Me da gusto que estes mejor.y disculpa una pregunta la mini led no se quema como la oled ya ves que ay muchos reviews que dicen qu la oled se quema y no se si la mini led tenga ese problema. Tu sabes..?
Sony TVs are S-O-O overrated! They don't look any better on SDR content than any other TV. This A80L is dim compared to Samsung and Lg C3. I got the C3 and it's amazing! Great video on the more expensive and average A80L.
Take your foot out of your mouth, these tvs look amazing and the processing is the best. 700 nits is extremely bright in controlled lighting and even it’s fulls scene which is slightly less than 200. A movie theater is around 100-150, educate yourself
And that right there is why i won't buy another Sony if they're gonna have only one hdmi port for gaming. I have both the PS5 and SX and I'm not swapping ports.
It doesn’t work for everyone. But there are ways to work around that. I have one connected to HDMI 4. And then another one connected to my soundbar via HDMI 3. Get the same benefits that way. Or if you have a receiver that is capable of proper HDMI 2.1 pass through. But not everyone has equipment that is relatively new and capable.
Hey guys Joelster here, check out the store fronts I created so you can buy this TV and other products I reviewed and recommend.

Great review! Can you please tell me where I can find New York sample video you were running at 4:35min+? Thanks
Maybe you can do a side by side comparison with the Sony a80, LG c3 and Samsung. That would be cool
I have this Sony agreed it’s not for gaming. It’s very dark screen I agree. Yes good for movies. I still prefer my LG CX than this A80L.
@@clou1969, you have answered my question. I have the LG C3, but that Sony looks better. Maybe I’ll stick with my C3.

Please do a side by side comparison of Sony A80L vs LG C3

75" X90L or 65" A80L for OTT streaming to upgrade from 50" LED TV? Priority is picture quality and sound.

Yea, C3 next please. What is the difference between the peak brightness and picture processing, Sony are good at this. Awesome content thank you.
Yes, I will be reviewing the C3 and the S90C since they are all around the same price.
Is it fine on a Bright room?
Thanks for Review Joelster. S90c next.
Coming soon!
Your A80L came with a backlit remote? Did you get it from BB or Costco?
Costco.
Out of all the tvs you have reviews this year, which one is your favorite for gaming?
1. LG C3
2. Samsung QN90C or S90C
3. Hisense U8K

Sync your soundbar via Bluetooth and that plug is free for whatever. That’s what i did with my l80a
I would buy it , if it had the brightness of A90J.
Just put a heatsink on it, its the same price as MLA with 1400Nits. All we ask is A90J brightness
In this case get a80L 83, it has heatsink and a90j body
