It's both really but I can say compared to Dragon Raja, this game is more forgiving to F2P. If you do F2P in dragon raja doing everything you need to, you will still be 200k - 300k RP behind a P2W whale at the same level.
Well,keeping in mind that there isn't pvp in the game(for now,cuz mihoyo might have shit instead of brains in their heads)the game is 90% f2p friendly if you ignore the unlocking characters for fun part,you can easily beat the game if you can farm good artifacts for some characters.But if you only play for the characters and expect to get to use/get most characters quickly,then its not that f2p friendly cuz of the punishing amount of free primogems the devs give.
If you're looking at the goal post, it's F2P friendly. If you're looking at yourself and the others, it's p2w. Good thing it's not a race, ain't it? ... for now.
For me its F2P depending on how the player want to play because you can just grind to earn what you need to earn or you want ro feel the thrill of the game and P2W are almost EA games hahhaha

If you enjoy a really nice open world game and love exploring and experimenting with different teams you can do all of this without investing a single cent. I agree with almost everything said. If you want to get like every single item/ char u need to pay, but I really don’t think it’s worth it^^

I think you guys don't even know what f2p friendly is. F2p friendly is a game where you can buy only skin or other cosmetics things but no advantages. Gatcha games aren't f2p, NOT EVEN A SINGLE ONE OF THEM. Only whales will be competitive in those tipe of games and that is a fact. So imo play it with that in mind cause trust me, is 100% sure you'll be a piece of garbage in front of a whale when pvp comes, if comes

Believe it or not my most powerful character in my team is Kaeya. This game is definitely F2P friendly .

There is a pity system in this game if we don't get 5Star hero in that banner we can try it in next banner previous wish carry forward to next banner.
F2P I guess coz you can go through main quest and spiral abyss w/o paying just by grinding. And co-op can help you if it gets hard in fighting bosses.
