He eats with bare hands like an Indian, he shares food like an indian, most top of it he Pays humble Gratitude to food and each one who is connectd to it from raw grossery, the cooking staff to serving staff just like us Indians ! The correct definition is: to die or perish from lack of food or nourishment. to be in the process of perishing or suffering severely from hunger. to suffer from extreme poverty and need.     very hard working couple, I knew them from the time they used to work at Annapurna cuisine in the same city, few blocks from their restaurant. Best of Luck to them. It is really great to see them. I will visit this restaurant during my next visit.

    David, bet you tried Sambhar Vada while visiting Chennai.....the Vada is soaked for hours into the sambhar and trust me....it's the best. Also if you visit Saravana Bhavan at Chennai ask for their 14 idlis.....these shall be very small idlis which you can pop whole into your mouth with Sambhar and your favorite coconut chutney

    My best friend was born in “care -ah-lah”. Not sure why you pronounce it your way. But the uppum is a fermented rice pancake with coconut milk served with “stew” which is a thick chicken coconut green chili dish. I have never seen you eat this dish in Kerala.

    2 different types of appams, one is palappam and the other is kalappam, I think you had the kalappam. Both good. What happened to the Kerala Fish Curry (dark red one). Kerala Fish fry, Chicken Roast, meat pickle, ginger pickle, ginger curry, kerala chicken fry, lamb or mutton curry, erissery (pumpkin or squash), Karimeen Pollichathu, mussel fry

    Great upload, Culver City is one of my favorite places in LA. That Indian restaurant is excellent.

    #Davidsbeenhere, Been to this restaurant when we visited LA a few years ago, remembered the owners as soon as I saw them on your video. They were extremely friendly and very happy you visited Mayura for the Kerala food. If I recall they made my son Butter chicken even though it was not on the buffet menu. This was like 4 years ago.

    You may want to correct description of idli.
    It is not just a rice cake ( carb ),
    but rice and black gram cake ( carb and protein combo cake).
    It's the black gram that gives it a fermented savoury taste .

    David, Happy that you finally got to taste authentic Indian Beef fish 😃😃
    Unfortunately most of the so called Indian restaurants in US do not have beef dishes because of the religious polarisation that they profess ... Mayura has always been different and upholding the kerala values of brotherhood. . Fortunate to have visited there in 2007 and 2015 during my stints in LA... Way to go ! ❤️💕👌

    Its a Dish we love in Tamil Nadu (Chennai). You get crispy and varieties of Dosa and chutney's in Tamil Nadu than any other state. Unfortunately Knoxville has none of them 😞

    What you said about Curry is perfectly correct. We use Curry even to say any meat. But the word is misused as Gravy and wide spread now.

    Traditionally speaking you can't call it an appam if made on a flat top stove.. they have a special pot named chatti for this.. flat and crispy on the sides and doughy soft in the middle.. thats kerala appam

      The appam they had is Kallappam, which is made on flat top stove.
      Paalappam is the one you are talking about, which is crispy on the edges. Paalappam is more famous but Kallappam is also a Kerala dish.

      You "bewakooof" get your facts straight before stating this blunder. There are many things mentioned as a must try in Kerala food. Even a noob can tell seafood is something everyone adores eating in Kerala. Beef is consumed by only few Hindus (depending on the caste) , Christians and Muslims.

    You can tell that’s not a fresh parotta. Frozen parotta heated on a hot griddle. That’s why it looked dry. Real parotta made fresh will be fluffy.
