at the end of the day, as an international customer & collector. I am NOT spending $600 for this, regardless of figure choices, it is NOT worth that much, I'm sorry, it's not, if this was 100 bucks less to make it like $500, then MAYBE I can back it, but, it's too expensive, idc what anyone says, THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE THIS CHEAPER!
No disrespect to you or Mattel but 400 for this was too much and that is the only reason why it wasn’t backed it had nothing to do with figures or anything else it was overpriced period…. and also apparently 1,574,000 dollars wasn’t enough for a multimillion dollar company to at least make it for the ones that backed it…. this whole thing was a crock of BS on both ends.
100 percent. I understand we are all fans, and we all want these things of course. But I’m SO tired of hearing every single content creator excusing capitalist greed by saying “ohhhh MOQ, ohhh tooling” - were all grown, we know what business is about. Making money. That doesn’t excuse a billion dollar company for over charging. I don’t give a damn how high inflation is, it’s wrong. And then to dangle the carrot in front of the fans faces “we’ll if you don’t fund this one, you won’t get another one” - what are we?? Kids at Walmart begging our mom for a candy bar? It was always the price. Never the offering. Anyone who says different is blindly loyal, or extremely privelaged. But more power to anyone who thinks otherwise. Just my opinion.
Something this big & expensive would take up a lot of retail space. It’s a very niche market. A lot of retailers. Like Walmart & Target most likely wouldn’t want a $200-$400 piece taking up that much space. Therefore they do the crowdfunding to help cover the cost of tooling etc for the mostly adult collectors for this kind of stuff.
@@jefferyjones8399 Yeah that’s what I was saying. That’s why one reason they were doing the crowd funding because this would be to big & expensive for a retail store.
I'm a hardcore collector from this era & I didn't want this. As a Ultimate completist I don't want anymore stages & rings because they take up too much space. If we keep getting rings & entrances we are going to need conference tables in our collection rooms which is not IDEAL. Why it failed: 1. Price - bad economy & only influencers think the stage is worth it alone (need all 5 figs). 2. Size - way too big and doesn't fit in any shelf complete. 3. Fig selection - How can you not have NWO & Ric Flair in a WCW project. 4. Fig attires - they all felt like secondary attires which lets you know repaints are coming. 5. Marketing - too late only in the last week. 6. International rates - idk how but fig out how to lower cost 7. Presentation - they need to present the whole package of what you getting from Day 1. In conclusion, this is not a bad thing because its a learning curve for Mattel. We do not want to spend $400 on a stage and we want the best attires for Ultimates. In the future we won't have such big items & better fig selection. If you think about it less then 3Kreally back this project because you know ringside & others but a few 100s themselves.
Unfortunately it was the wrong price, wrong size, wrong figure selection. I don’t see how they can make that Raw stage if it’s twice the size and price of the Nitro stage.
As an NWO collector and international buyer, it was definitely the price tags are put me off supporting the initiative. In saying that it would’ve been awesome to have this stage.
They could have easily given us all the figs. It was feasible and very possible. 90% of the figures the tooling already exist. To keep it real I backed it but I can see why people thought it was overpriced. I think Mattel got a little greedy with the price. Honestly led lights are relatively cheap I don’t think it was worth $400 even thou I tried to buy it. With all the figs it would have been worth it
At the end of the day it just wasn’t good enough. The figures we’re all kind of average. If they did the Raw is War with let’s say Austin, Rock, Taker, HBK, Foley.. etc, then there is no doubt it would have been done.
If the cost of preventing the consumer from getting screwed over in the future is not getting any more crowd funds, I’m fine with it. There’s nothing wrong with being completely comfortable dropping 400 on this, but objectively without question that is way way too much money. And anyone who uses the usual argument to bring up MOQ or tooling is just a fan, who reallly wanted this and is upset it’s not happening. And that’s OKAY! that is totally fine. I get it. But keep it real. We all know that was too damn much money to ask for. Mattel should just drop a pre order, and make these as needed, like hot toys. Simple. You wanna pay 400 bucks, preorder it and they make the exact amount ordered end of story. A crowd fund just screams greed IMO.
They can do what Diamond Select did with the Ghostbusters line - release pieces of the Nitro set starting with the next run of elite/basic figures. There are ways of giving people what they want without crowd funding.
I agree about the nWo representation in this project. I backed one myself but the figures were just very underwhelming IMO. I do think that played a big part in this failing. Also the over seas collectors kinda got the shaft. Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand shipping costs is expensive but still. I think had it been somewhat manageable, this would’ve hit at least 5000 backers easily.
Probably should have given the people the new character first (Scott Steiner) at 5k and the international shipping rates are crazy. I'm in the US so I don't need to worry about it but in the end $800 for a toy?? $400 was perfectly reasonable, out of all the stages i was most looking forward to this one....
I’d love to see the percentage of international backers for the New Gen ring vs this, cos I think when you factor in exchange rates and shipping fees, I suspect this drove away a LOT of international buyers. I understand the financial reality, and I don’t expect Mattel to pay for it - but it all pushed out to a point that it became unaffordable. Combined with the underwhelming figures, I understand why it failed.
I had the money to buy it, but why buy a wcw stage if a raw stage is coming right after? Not many people have room for every stage so I’m sure a lot of people wanted to skip this one and just wait for the raw stage. The price was also just way too high to not include a single figure that was really exciting.
The SmackDown! Fist Stage should have happened first, I would have been there day 1. Reason I didn't back the WCW stage, despite being cool as hell, was I feel like the Ultimate figures weren't worth it or really added the "must have" vibe that the stage gave off. I also think it being WCW theme'd may have been a little "too hardcore" for many modern fans who may not have been around this time frame or even for those who may only care for WWE "only" history. The price point was a little too high too, but its understandable. Sometimes I wonder if all the lighting effects become a little too extravagant that brings the costs up? But at the same time I'd rather have a stage that does those effects to give a higher quality feel.
I got one to support the line, but the pricing for a stage even with the significant size difference doesn’t make sense to me. Especially with the ring out of the equation.
I would like to say I would have paid and would still pay $100 more for the stage if Mattel moved forward with this project. The extra $100 per order would cover the lack of backers. I had considered ordering two additional stages to go along with the 2 I had ordered on DAY ONE because I wanted this to back so badly. I believe the stage and whatever figures received could have been flipped at a later time to cover the investment. Imagine collecting completionists in a few years trying to track down these ultra rare Ultimate figures. "Bummed" is an excellent word to sum up the overall feeling I have after taking this, "L". I know its too late and we missed the deadline. I think we all will regret this lack of support for years to come. Probably no large project like this for many years not to mention I will not have this cool stage to add to the collection. I would love to see Mattel reach out to the community who did back this project. Im probably in the minority but again I would have paid more to get this done to make up for the gap in total numbers. Thinking outside the box, possibly extending the deadline with cost increase to anyone interested. Basically a real push to make this stage happen and not feel like the project was rushed and then rushed again to be over and done.
Simple solution would of been Stage on it's own with more ringside accessories on the tiers. Barriers, announce table, backstage interview area. Could have kept the stage and accessories close to the $300. Then do a second crowd funder for the figures for $200\$250. Yes, it's more but i think if people could choose to have 1 or the other or both then both would have been backed. My issue being in the uk was £500 ($650) for a stage i didnt want. Secondary market would have been flooded if 11k had backed so no chance of making any decent money to cover the cost. I would have snapped up the figures for £250 shipped to the UK as we pay about £50 for a target or walmart UE anyway.
We'll see more, they'll just learn their lesson of pricing & tiers. They can alway do like NECA does & make them to order as well... No need to have a goal, just make them for those that truly want them. It'll make it even rarer.
Stage looked cool but WCW was before my time. Also it was way overpriced. People didn’t miss the bigger picture. Most people don’t have that type of money to waste on a stage. Make a pipers pit for like 250 with ultimate piper that will fund. Great video as always
My reasons for not backing were Figure selection, size and price. If it was must have figures I would have bought it even to just keep in storage untill I found a place for it. Although we know the Monday night wars line is coming I think they should have released that line and or other subsequent WCW figures before this. That way you're insured to have multiple WCW figures to go with the stage. The raw stage i think would have had a much better chance at funding if only for the fact we have had years worth of figures that will fit in with it.
I think the figure selection ruined it. I know there coming later, but that really hurt it. It was the same with the new gen. Macho was needed to push that. Hopefully they will retry again and do more stages
Honestly, despite the price I think $400 for just 2 figures wasn’t enough if we only hit 5K, I get you gotta pay for the material, the labor, etc etc, but getting just Rey & Steiner wasn’t enough for the price imo, had the guaranteed maybe 4 figures and a way better selection that thing would of hit 5K+ but that’s my opinion
In my opinion the selection of the nitro stage was the mistake. If you go back everyone was speculating and the two most talked about were the Raw is War and smackdown fist stage. I don’t think that many people were asking for it. And it wasn’t enough for them to drop $400 on something that they didn’t really want. I think it was mainly the price. But if it was too daunting they did offer payment plans. I backed it day one and was so disappointed it didn’t get funded. This is an absolute grail for me and it will forever be a “what if” scenario and I hate that. At least we know we will be getting the WCW Nitro ring…
Why couldn't they just put all 5 figures and the stage from the get go? Also make the project with only 10k backers. I'm sure more people would back it that way knowing they getting all 5 figures backed or not
Bro, they got greedy with the price. Now if this was raw this would've funded easily. WCW only led in the ratings for 82 weeks. WWE has always had the better looking entrance. Mattel also doesn't make enough WCW figures for them to release their stage first.
I will/would have backed the raw is war titan tron stage, wcw was just not my niche. Had it been cheaper i prbly would’ve ended up backing it even still. That being said, i imagine the raw stage will not have as high of a price tag as it isn’t as elaborate IF they decide to do another crowd fund
