    I followed your guide and I too have success with a now working lens! Thank you so much for this detailed break down an reassembly. I was impressed too how you did somethings out of order when assembling it back together, but after reviewing it a few times it made sense. Again, really appreciate this video.

    sel2470za fe sony How do I remove only the objective lens?
    Can I turn it with the front rubber dowel?

    Nice! Man, my ZEISS 18 mm has the same problem of buzzing. I sent it to ZEISS and they wanted $899usd to fix it. I guess I’ll give it a go and take it apart as shown in your video. If I screw it up no big deal , the lens would be garbage anyways. Unless…. I can send it to you?

      I tried with the 55mm Zeiss. It have the same problem after only a few years of use. The problem I encountered is that it's built is different and I can't figure out how to remove the focusing parts. It's all plastic and no screws no bushing.

      @@Eyetrap I own Zeiss Batis 18mm, 40mm and 85mm and I also had a 25mm Batis for FE mount. The built quality is great and I never had any issues. I thought this issue was more common with the Sony-Zeiss lenses (designed by Zeiss and made by Sony). Your 18mm is a Batis?

    • @Eyetrap
      @Eyetrap 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benjaminmaheux6181 yes it’s a batis. There are many cases all over the internet with the same issue as my 18 batis. It’s a known issue. Most people send it in to zeiss and zeiss claims it’s been dropped. Mine has never been dropped. They wanted 899 to fix it. Highway robbery.

      @@benjaminmaheux6181 some lens these days may have permanent tapes or glued spots if they are not meant to be taken apart. More to modular design. As all these extra parts like screws and also post field returns repairs adds to overall cost of a product. Hence these new generation lenses that may not be designed for repair on every single part of it.
      These lens may have usual design philosophy for each maker and usually the way they build the lens are in a similar manner.
      Try observing the mechanism and move back and forth the actuation to try figure out where the securing parts are, then progress from there. Sometimes, you might need to use special tools to turn elements to unlock the puzzle. So actuating the mechanism a few times would help you to figure out. If not you can share photos/vid of it and can try to help figure.

    Hi Uncle Scully, i have the same lens and i am having hazing issue on the lens which is connected to the auto focus mechanism. Will it be possible to clean the haze once i open up the lens following your step by step guide? I was told by Sony service centre that i have to replace the entire lens element and it is quite costly. Thanks in advance.

    • @unclesullysprojects9379
      @unclesullysprojects9379  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Duxz, thanks for reaching out. It would be interesting to observe the have that you are experiencing on the inner module of the lens.
      The problem with haze is that, it is quite hard to pin point from outside unless it’s obvious on lens elements or group that are “exposed” and not in a stacked group. If it’s the moving lens of the AF system(the one racking up back and forth) there might be possibility of cleaning if its on the surface.
      The worry I have for hazed lens is to understand the root course. As it may come back again through time.
      Based on my past experiences, some haze are caused by vaporised lubricants that eventually condense on on the cooler lens surface. Usually these type of have manifests itself as fine tiny blob/ball dots.

      @@unclesullysprojects9379 thanks for the detailed explanation. The local Sony here in Malaysia was planning to charge me around 350uss for the fix without even opening and inspecting the exact location of the hazing. So I was thinking of trying out a diy project base on your detailed video.

    • @unclesullysprojects9379

      @@duxz I used to live in Singapore. Just like in Malaysia, I know how hot and sunny it could get. Black lens in hot sun may not be a good match and also after the hot sun and humidity, you bring the lens into cold air condition environment. These temperature cycling may cause hazing. Hence you see many of those older lens in the second hand market have haze problem. Lubricant deposits that can only be cleaned by reaching to them.....to bad in side.
      Should you try to fix this lens, do share the outcome. I hope for the best. If you have any questions, do give me a shout here.
