Fan translators truly do gods work. Localizing these games that otherwise wouldn't get a chance worldwide. If my Japanese was better, I would lend a hand for sure, using my mastery of the language for the good of many people.
I’m just glad it’s more democratized for people to make their own stuff to make a living with a lower barrier of entry, thank the technology. Surprised people still do this and modders but I guess it’s a labor of love. That motorvania Laika game should be fun. 10:00 patch cards for money in mmbn5 and 6 way better.
To this day, Mother 3 remains one of my top few games I’ve ever played. The word gets a little overused nowadays, but even now I would truly describe it as a masterpiece.
2:16 Holy shit, I haven't heard a more wrong description of FE6's plot than this one. Roy isn't a "flamboyant womanizer" nor is he the "prince of Nasir". Roy is a rather reserved 15 year old who is son to the Marquess of Pherae, I don't know what his actual title would be. They also haven't "long been at war with neighboring countries". Up until the start of FE6, the continent of Elibe has largely been at peace. War breaks out when the country of Bern suddenly makes a surprise attack against the countries of Sacae and Ilia. After conquering them, Bern turns towards the country of Lycia, which Pherae is part of, and makes an attack on their capital, Ostia. As Roy's father Eliwood is ill at this time, Eliwood appoints Roy in his place and Roy is then thrust into battle against Bern.
Magical vacatipn was badly done and not completely finished which is a shame. I cant wait till you make a video on the ds ones. The amount of love that we have put into so many titles that even now there are still projects being worked on
Another wonderful display! I had never heard of Magical Vacation but I'm trying it and it's fun as hell. Thanks for making these videos. Small critique, you have a great personality but your scripts are very samey. Maybe try writing scripts with you reacting more naturally involved in the script, candid moments, right? Hope that helps you bro, you rock and I love your videos!
Magical Vacation and by extension, Magical Starsign is one of my all time favorite RPG's and it's entirely because of the Artstyle, it's just simply adorable and fun. There's even a tiny bit of Story present between the game's. And, something that always really captivated me with it, is that after you play Magical Vacation your like "Cool, nice, good story, fun world, good." right. But then you go to Starsign and a LITERAL universe opens up to you, it's like everytime you think the game is coming to end, it's no where CLOSE, new things opened up all the time, there's a hidden dungeon with oodles of lore that if you didn't drop a save infront of or go back to before reaching the final area, you'll have to play through all over again. It was truly a "Magical" experience and I will always love that game.
I love the fan translation for Mother 3 ( still never giving up hope of Nintendo giving us an official localization one day though )....also managed to beat Tomato Adventure, Magical Vacation & all 3 GBA Starfy games with the help of walkthroughs. I miss having a decent computer & those emulators sometimes
If there's one thing that's unfortunate with SMT GBA is that it sounds a lot to be desired. BestestHD was working on putting PSX music to GBA but he abandoned it after the PSX translation patch was finished, and will only continue if he happen to be interested again. In case anyone has no idea, the GBA version has more missions and collectible items.
It's funny how I've dabbled in the translation patch GBA thingy ever since I was 14. And have played all the games here too! GBA is such a loveable little gem of handheld console
You should do DS and 3DS fan translated games next! Currently playing Beyond the Labyrinth and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 fan translations - both great games!
If you do another video like this i would throw in Super robot taisen J. Part of the massive SRW series in Japan, it got a fan translation a long time ago, if you dont know what that is it's Fire emblem but Sci-fi instead of Fantasy, where instead of Knights, warriors and mages you control giant robots, vehicles and dudes in power armor.
A shame we've never received official translations for these games... or at least ports for them. The non-RPGs could be ported onto Switch Online with only a few issues, like with Panel De Pon and Kirby Star Stacker. 1:23 - As a fan of Magical Starsign, being able to play the original would be pretty awesome. I'd also like for Nintendo to make a new entry; they've been pretty good about reviving older IPs as of late so I can hope. 2:20 - Flamboyant womaniser? Is this purely because Roy has the most marriage options of any lord pre-Fates? I've heard he was a calm, pacifist character (in other words, completely opposite to how he is portrayed in Smash Bros) but the womaniser attribute is new. 5:05 - The Hajime no Ippo GBA game was made by Treasure? Interesting. I'm a big fan of the series, but given we can't even get the manga released outside of Japan, I'm unsurprised this is Japan only. How the Wii game got a release overseas, albeit with a name change, I'll never know (but am glad for). 6:02 - I love how you can choose a buff to have between rounds. That's really neat. 8:30 - With exception to a single DS game (which I'm still trying to find). The Stafy games, as platformers, should be an easy to throw up on Switch online. Of course, having them be translated officially would be even more appreciated. 11:59 - I love how you couldn't say that line about Tomato Adventure without a chuckle slipping through. The premise of Tomato Adventure is brilliant. As much as I liked Mario & Luigi, it's a shame that the original Tomato Adventure was overlooked for more entries compared to the Mario branded RPGs.
Artwork on the thumbnail is from the mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes. Has nothing to do with GBA. I like your vids but please, that level of clickbait is insufferable
I'm thankful for the fan translation of Super Robot wars J. I already put tens of hours on it on the Japanese version. Then the enlish patch came out and I got addicted more. Now if only Summon night 3 and Zoids legacy fuzors could've gotten full translation.. m
Nice, btw summon night 3 is still playable even though it was not completed. Only the important part were translated. I do wish Slime Mori Mori Dungeon gets translated, but it is one of those games that you still play even though its in jpn. Also its alot easier if you've already played Rocket Slime on Nds since the movement and attacks are similar.
No offense but when you described Roy I wonder if you confused him with Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist (albeit only the womanizer part makes sense with this logic)
here is an great game for the NDS zombie BBQ, its an arcade game where riding hood and momotaro must defeat many characters from the fairy tales books like: pinocchio, the 3 little pigs, hansel and grettel, etc
You miss some others like tales of world narikiri dungeon 2&3, fullmetal alchemist, boktai 3, summon night swordcraft 3, telefang, black matrix zero,...
Great topic for a video, as there are tons of great games out there across all systems that could use a video like this, just to alert the public at large on missed translated games. Over the years many greats come to mind and of course Mother 3 is one of the top offerings, Ace Attorney Investigations 2 on the DS is another that comes to mind. Captain Rainbow on the Wii yet another, way to many to mention, so here's to seeing more translation videos like this. Even though I'm well versed on the scene, I still miss great games from time to time, as no one can keep track of them all.
@@thatvideogamesshow There's dozens of fan translations for the PSP. Given how extensively you've covered the PSP catalogue, this could probably be one of the best topics to go back to it.
I couldn't get into the Hajime no Ippo game myself, personally thought it was a bit jank. And Klonoa Heroes was a bit repetitive imo, didn't really make it that far in.
I know that it's far from the best the Franchise has to offer, and kinda niche, but I kinda wish you mentioned Super Robot Wars Judgement... even if Super Robot Wars W for the DS was a FAR better game (and considered one of the best)
Srpg stands for strategy role playing game. They are also called Tactical rpg. In japanese they are called simulations, you simulate a commander deploying soldiers strategically moving on a battlefield. Typically the battles take place on a map and the movement and positionning of your characters is an important aspect of combat. Most sprgs use a grid with square tiles or sometimes hexagons.
The element system killed Magical Vacation for me. There's 16(!) elements, each with an opposite, and you need to know what counters what because there's no way to check in battle. We're talking nonsensical stuff like "thunder counters ancient" and "stone counters insect). Battles are extremely slow and there's way too many characters to keep track of.
I’m sorry but I can’t do the voice, It’s too how can I say it…. Like bland. Sorry but it’s like you’re just reading and no emotion about what you’re talking about. Just my opinion

99% of fan translations are amazing
Except Clickclaxer01's Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force fan translations
They should never translate a game again :/
Well you can start learning Japanese right now through internet
Now if only Summon Night 3 was part of the fully translated games then it would be perfect
The projects still worked on. Hopefully it will be fully translated soon
Long live to translators they are heroes with no cape.
Note: thanks for put Stafy no Densetsu on the list. I assume you liked when I mentioned.
Thanks for the suggestion!
To this day, Mother 3 remains one of my top few games I’ve ever played. The word gets a little overused nowadays, but even now I would truly describe it as a masterpiece.
It's so good
8:25 The Legendary Starfy (Starfy 5) was certainly released outside Japan
Yep. For the DS. I bought a copy a few years ago for like $8.
0:13 - Magical Vacation
1:53 - Fire Emblem: Fuuin No Tsurugi
3:31 - Mother 3
5:02 - Hajime No Ippo: The Fighting
6:31 - Shin Megami Tensei
8:20 - Densetsu no Starfy
9:57 - Rockman EXE 4.5: Real Operation
11:46 - Tomato Adventure
13:27 - Klonoa Heroes: Densetsu No Star Medal
14:59 - Oriental Blue: Ao No Negai
You are a hero with no cape
Great to see Magical Vacation get some attention. Always wanted to play that.
It'd be great if you listed the background music used in episodes as well
I played the fan translated version of Klonoa Heroes and it's now one of my favorite GBA games

For sure 🙂
