If you had faced the tarp toward that rock where you put backpack you could have used it as fire reflector and put your firepit between you and that rock to get more warmth the rock could have absorbed heat and bounce it back to you in tarp- maybe next time you could try; at least you stuck with it and did not give up you must have been freezing by time you got fire started Great video thank you for sharing your camp with us
You must not know how a fire reflector really works it only works if the branches you use for the wall catch fire, and that's the heat you feel. There are many other TH-cam videos explaining this and the fire would have to be much bigger for a rock that size to heat up Especially with it being wet and cold
A city boy in the video ahead ... he went to the woods without a descent raincoat ... the best is the poncho which protects and the backpack as well (which is wet in the video already) ... and when you are wet in the wild the hard side of life starts ... backpack, coat, pants, and boots are already soaked since the beginning of the video ...
I'll take the minimal weight of a few tent pegs over the waste of time cutting a tree into peg sized pegs and then sharpening them in the cold and the rain any day
i enjoyed the video and the editing was great! almost didn't notice you faking the fire starting lol. made me laugh but anyway other than that little part i truly did enjoy it.
I didn't like that either. It's fine to struggle for fire and have to resort to lighters or other means (especially when exhausted and in awful weather), but it's not cool to hide it. Others should see that it's a struggle even for people with experience. There's no shame in this. Pretending otherwise is the problem.
Nice one. Really great video. Similar set up to me, few questions, what is the make and model of jacket and did you burn the plastic clips on your zebra? (I melted mine)
These are RevolutionRace pants. In such a big rain, they didn't turn out the best, because the rain didn't stop falling, but they are very comfortable.
Hey 👋🏻 from crusty old New England! This was great! I subbed tonight. I had a question. I’ve experimented with this setup in my backyard laboratory and the pole tends to slide down. What do you use on the top of the pole to keep it from sliding down. I’ve got a free soldier 9.5 x 10.5 feet tarp and would line to use this setup in the bush. Thanks for the great vid. Happy New Year!
The pole should be stable on the top and bottom. If you don't have a floor, you can dig a pole. If you have a floor and it is full-surface, you have a problem. It is best to sew a (waterproof) floor to suit your needs and preferences. I did it. Bottom: there is additional reinforcement under the mast and two opposite pockets for a flat foot under the mast. Top - ceiling: the edge of the branch cut must be rounded and protected against resin, mechanical damage to the material - any part of clothing, or a cloth, or a loaded tennis ball. I have different tips: plastic (flat with holes for herring obtained from the protection of bicycle wheels, contoured smooth mushroom with the possibility of connecting lashings) and non-slip made of delicate silicone. I use foldable (carbon fiber) masts inside and out. Tarp 3 * 4.5m.
Please stop pretending to light the fire 🔥 with your ferro rod. Learn how to do it for real and share the skill. That’s what it’s about. 🤷🏽♂️ If your skill level is that of using matches and lighters there is no shame in showing people how to safely do that too. Your vids are really nice to watch. Don’t ruin them with camera trickery.
It has been raining all day, the conditions are very, very bad, everything is wet and rotten. Maintaining a fire is almost impossible and exhausting. This was a very good mental and physical exercise.👍
I think the 2man popup tent is cozy.

Nice one. Really great video. Similar set up to me, few questions, what is the make and model of jacket and did you burn the plastic clips on your zebra? (I melted mine)
May I suggest you wear gloves especially sawing wood... your hand was way too close to the sawblade a couple times. Be safe!
Thanks for noticing that. I will keep an eye on it in the future👍🏻🔥
What kind of knife are you using? Looks durable.
It’s Morakniv Kansbol.👍
Great video! New sub, looking forward to watching more of your videos. What pants are you wearing? And how did they hold up in that rain?

how you fire wet wood ?
Very difficult, it is necessary to be constantly around the fire
