Tropical Storm Florence drops staggering rainfall totals

- The rain will not let up on the East Coast for another 24 hours and the preliminary rainfall totals so far are staggering. The National Weather Service says more than 30 inches of rain has fallen in Swansboro, North Carolina. Thousands are under evacuation and nearly a million homes and businesses are without power. Adriana Diaz reports.

This breaks my heart. I lived in both Wilmington and Jacksonville when my husband was in the Marines. Never met people as kind and generous as when we lived in North Carolina. Keep safe, you guys are in my thoughts and prayers.

Every time there is a hurricane the people are warned to leave over and over again and stay. Then all these dummies are calling 911 crying to get rescued two hours into the storm. Then first responders have to go out in the middle of the storm and risk their lives saving them. Ridiculous !
Why do they need rescue when News media drive a van in there ??? All for he cameras that's all a rubber raft is all you need or just walk ride a bike if you have a lifted truck drive out.

Seeing comments of those with no empathy for others is disheartening. Absolutely no mercy in your hearts. Saying that people should just be left to die if they didn't evacuate because they were given a warning. A lot of these people have probably been living in these areas for decades and lived through lots of bad weather, but nothing bad enough that warranted them needing to leave. It's just that this time, was different than the others. I pray that people will stop speaking as though human life is like a piece of trash, and start talking like it actually has some value.
It's hard to leave when your home is all you have.
Naturally you attempt to save people. That said, they were offered various ways to evacuate and didn't. No one wants to leave home, that is our safe place, however, by not leaving you have also put an unnecessary burden to the rescue teams who could be dealing with those who are ill or fragile. Is it not better to be safe than sorry? Is it not better to do your part in being safe? Just because you have not seen something before, is no guarantee that you won't. Please, in the future, consider your options more carefully, and think of those who will have to put their life on the line to save yours if they can.

Its ok to bring out all the positive aspects of those helping each other and showing love instead of always negativity and the tragedy of it all...theres alot of good people and good stories that come from things like this. We dont want to hear all the drama, rather the positive and amazing things that people are doin for each other.

Peoplo say its Fake becuase their own lives are mostly spent online which is like living inside of a television and is indeed Fake. They do not even know what is real becuase they live online which is a Fake reality.
Is all those people that stay in the northern states that get mostly snow. Flooding is no joke, water kills you if you not careful. I experience flooding twice in Houston, 2001 and 2017.
If not fake it’s sensationalized. They are only in poor, low laying communities. This is because the wealthier areas are fine.

Why do people not cut back trees from their homes how stupid is that 20" trunk 60 feet high tree fall over on your house. I like how the coast guard drops in by Chopper and News Media is somehow able to drive a van in there
Because people who have fallen into hard times can't afford the cost of cutting back or removing the trees. It's very expensive.

Carrying as much water on those clouds as Lake Superior so anytime it parks in one spot you have big trouble anytime you have heels and slow drainage and too much cement that doesn't breathe and let water through

I lived thru 5 hurricanes in 2004 in Florida. I worked at the health department and was deployed to work shelters. When I did get home I was w/o power for 7 days. Fortunately I had water so I was able to get cold showers. I lived next to a store so I was able to get food. It was not a hardship, we were not flooded where I lived and worked. I feel for the people in the Carolina's. I've been thru a lot of hurricanes in my life time but nothings like what they r going through. Prayers.

At least with their power out, there should be less risk of fire. I wander about the homes that were flooded, wet insulation, that when the water recedes, but the family has not returned to the home but they cut the electric back on, so lights left on, ect. will turn back on and catch it on fire. Hopefully they turned off, unplugged, everything, even though the electric is off from the utilities area.

If I were those people, I would leave. However, many people don't even have cars, or money to pump gas, or money to pay for lodging. Plus, they aren't working either! It's awful, but the coast in that part of the country, shouldn't be inhabited year round.

Dozens of good ol boys from several SOUTHERN STATES haul their boats & inflatables hundreds of miles just to help folks in flooded areas. These southern hicks ask for nothing & taxpayers don't spend a dime. They do it just to help folks in trouble.

Meteorologist sees firsthand the devastation as a result of “Inadequate Building Codes.” We must ask “Why haven’t they made it a point to change this disconcerting outcome?” Where a person’s home is no longer a shelter, their natural rights of prosperity, property, and sovereignty swept away in one deadly swoop. Entire family tree whipped off the face of the earth and Meteorologist want to talk about the wind direction at the Cubs Baseball Game. Where is their Humanity? Meteorologist are more about looking good then saving lives. Looking good on camera, as a forecaster, as a hero that warns us/reminds us our lives are not our own, that is all a Meteorologist is for us. When our $350,000 new home is built of twigs, insurance companies, FEMA, UN, Red Cross, the National Guard and the Government have more Rights than we do when it comes to getting our lives back.
