Venice from Trieste/Italy Trip Episode 2

- This is the second part of our Italy trip. This time, we finished the 7-day cruise to the mediterranean. We embarked and disembarked in Trieste, Italy. This video contains our trip from Trieste (by foot and train) to Venice. Once settled in the hotel in Venice, we went out and walked around to have a taste of Venice. Hope you’ll enjoy the video.

Great video! We will be disembarking in Trieste soon and I want to buy the train tickets in advance. I have a couple of questions: It appears you arrived at the Train Stn at 9:33am from the video. You said it takes 20 minutes to walk it. #1. How long did it take from when your boat arrived at port until you could get off? I was hoping to get an earlier train than a 9:30am+ one. #2. Were there taxis or some other train stn transport available at the port? In case we want to save the walk time? Thanks!
The boat arrived at 7 in the morning. People started disembarking 30 minutes after our arrival in Trieste port. We just took our time leaving the ship because our hotel check-in time in Venice was at 2 pm.
There are taxis that you can grab in the port, very close to the ship when you go down. There are buses also that can bring you to the train station but I didn’t get info. I saw bus stops in the port also, right in the front.
Just make sure your boat docks in the city proper, in Trieste cruise port which is right next to the Piazza dell’Unita d’Italia (where we docked and 20 minutes walk to the train station), because there’s another cruise port which is a bit far from the city, I think 20 minutes by taxi. During embarkation, we were brought by the taxi driver to that “far away” cruise port, we had to call another taxi upon confirming that The NCL Gem wasn’t gonna be there for embarkation.

My husband and I will be taking our first cruise together on the NCL Escape for our honeymoon and will be ending at Trieste port. Do you have any tips for a smooth disembarkation/getting off the ship? Did you purchase your tickets in advance or at the station? And was it difficult to locate your train/platform, cart and seat? Thanks again!
Oh congratulations! I’m sure you’ll enjoy the cruise. Disembarkation was very easy for us because we didn’t have big luggage, we only have 2 hand carry luggage so we just walked to the train station from the port. Otherwise, you may need to take a taxi from the port to bring you to the train station.
We purchased our tickets at the station because I didn’t want to get stressed trying to catch the train on time. Trieste train station is really easy to navigate, no hassle in finding your platform and the train.
You can book your train online of course, and it’s cheaper especially if you do it days before the trip.
Your big luggage will be picked up by the staff (you need to put them outside your cabin the night before), on the day of arrival and will be waiting for you at the terminal area. The ship arrives usually at 7 am. You still have time to have some breakfast. If you’re not in a hurry, you can take your time and leave the ship at 9 or 10 am.
Did you get a train ticket to Venice that could cover your journey to Venice and then some transport journeys when you were in Venice ??
No we did not. We just bought a one way ticket from Treiste to Venice
Tip: some hotels in Venice (our hotel did) offer free water taxi ride to Burano island where you can see the actual making of murano glasses.
