    The secret is out....Trieste is now on the tourist radar. There is so much to see and do in the most unItalian city in Italy..........my home town

      The last 20 years so many of the beautiful buildings in the city centre have been restored, it's fantastic! As Trieste is so unitalian I recommend it for people to visit so they have a different experience in Italy. Thanks for watching!

    Great video with lots of information. While it's not Venice it still looks like a beautiful departure port. It has some many awesome historic buildings to see and of course wonderful views of the ocean. Seeing the canal was a nice surprise.

      Trieste is lovely, it does amuse me that the canal is called The Grand Canal as it's a small man made channel. It was originally constructed so that ships could load and unload their cargo in the city centre. Sadly the opening bridge was replaced in the 1960s with a low concrete one that doesn't open so there's only a few boats left in the canal. Venice is beautiful but it's not a place for large cruise ships, they're hated by the locals and that's how they ended up being banned. Trieste is a good option as it's been a deep water port for hundreds of years and there's no damage to any historic buildings. Thanks for watching!

      Your user name does make me smile, in Australia that type of footwear are a called 'thongs' so you can imagine Americans confusion when they come to Australia and people tell them to 'get their thongs out!'. To add to the confusion New Zealanders call them 'jandals' (as in Japanese sandals).

    Trieste looks absolutely beautiful with gorgeous sea views and its Art Nouveau architecture! We enjoyed seeing some of your choices of things to see and do. We'd love to do all of them, but especially see the castle and enjoy an art exhibition. I feel like I know Frida Kahlo well after last winter. Would love to see hers! While we don't drink anymore we'd still enjoy meeting James Joyce (👻) for a coffee at the Eataly building and enjoy the view. Would love to spend at least a week just exploring. Even the tragic! Thanks for bringing us along with you on this beautiful tour.

      I learnt all about Frida Kahlo by going to the exhibition last year, I had no idea what an interesting (and difficult) life she led. A few years back I saw an exhibition in the Salone degli incanti on Art Nouveau architecture and realised I was surrounded by it when I walked around Trieste. I kept recognising the buildings in the pictures 'I know where that is!' Trieste has a lot to see, I only showed the walkable part of the city centre. Thanks for watching

      I'm in Trieste at the moment and seeing people off the cruise ships wandering around with tourist maps. I've been tempted to go up to them and say 'I've got a youtube video for you!"😄

    Oh I love that old Roman arch! But my favourite bit was the piazza. LOVE a good Italian piazza! I don't do cruises, but I would love to see Trieste! Lovely video! XX Dara

      I have to admit that I've never been on a cruise, they don't really appeal to me and I know there are people who love them. I just noticed last year how many cruise ships were at the cruise port and saw people wandering through Piazza Unità dragging their suitcases behind them heading for a ship. I thought then I could make a video about things to do before or after a cruise. It just takes me a while to do it!

      Trieste is full of piazzas and let's just say come the summer people really embrace the whole outdoor cafe lifestyle. The streets around the various piazzas have been pedestrianised so even more cafes.

      It used to be a very snooty in the past, but not anymore and great people watching. It's also very reasonably priced. The picture of the coffee and cream croissant, with a shard of white chocolate, the 'latte macchiato' you self pour the coffee into the warm milk was only 6 euros. (About $6.50USD) the melted dark chocolate in the shot glass was free, everyone gets one with whatever they order.

    Trieste is a beautiful and very famous city in Italy, and the buildings are magnificent classics. a small restaurant on a small street between the buildings being typical of Italy, thank you for show me beautiful Trieste.8.54

      The small restaurants are in the Old Town and some of those streets date back to the Roman times. It's lovely that now that area has been restored, Trieste also has wide boulevards and art nouveau buildings from when it was part of Austria. Thanks for watching!

    It was such a long while ago when we paused for a short break on a road trip and we did not return because it looked quite run down (nearly 50 years ago). It really looks more interesting nowadays. Like everywhere things change and buildings are cleaned and restored. First impressions can be hard to shake. Hopefully I can give this city another chance in the near future.

    • @theresabigwideworld2632
      @theresabigwideworld2632  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Trieste was VERY rundown for many years, it was an important port for Austria, once it became part of Italy it wasn't needed as Italy had other ports. I think it was about 20 years ago the EU started pouring money into projects to restore Trieste as it was in its prime.(Trieste was level with Vienna, Budapest and Prague on its importance to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, there was a lot of wealth in the city) Each time I visited I would look around to see what was new. The city council too, instigated a tax rebate system where property owners would get a reduction on their council tax if they restored the facade of their building. That's had a major impact as pretty much all of the old town is restored (it used to be a slum area) and now a great many of the early 20th century Art Nouveau buildings are being restored and that's made a huge difference to the look of the city. It will be well worth visiting again I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
