Calev Ben David breaks down the need-to-know news from around the world in a fast-paced and engaging format.
Israel is really lucky to have those enormous patriots like him
Eli Cohen was caught not because of pressure from his Mossad handlers. He was caught because during some of his transmissions he transmitted during power blackouts. The Indian Embassy complained to the Syrians of some electronic interference. The Syrians became suspicious and asked the Russians for help. The Russians gave the Syrians their newest tracking system which could be transported around and it was during his last transmission that the Syrians were able to pinpoint his location.
Something else to note was that his mission to find out everything about the Golan Heights was accomplished and was supposed to stay in Israel.
But he only returned because whilst there he saw a truck load of PLO gunmen @ the Syrian Base close to where he stayed. He returned to want to find out where the gunmen were headed to. He got wind of their operation and relayed it to the IDF.
It was while he was transmitting that he was caught.
He did not have to return to Syrian but he wanted to thus paying with his life.
He begged Israeli inteligents to bring him home...he knew was in trouble ....they let him be captured for more inteligence.
He was there with a mission.
Just because you have gathered *some* intelligence it doesn't mean you accomplished your mission.
Of course he wanted to come back come. Everyone in his position would want the same.
But he knew what he was doing, that's why he's a hero.
Trying to put the blame on the mossad is contradictory since it was him to choose to serve Israel by serving the mossad. Which he did more than brilliantly.
I wish it didn't end like this, but sometimes you either complete your mission or you get out alive.
You can't always have both.
And ask yourself this, would've he been ok with himself if he actually decided to come back home (which could've resulted in Israel losing the war)?
I think it's clear he wouldn't have been on with himself. Which is why he decided to work for the mossad in the first place.
Again, he knew what he was doing.
That's why he's a hero.
@@magnumopus1628 If you tell your handler that you are a suspect and endangered your job is to get them out....He was betrayed by Israel then made a hero...he also helps spread antisemitic feelings because Israel is proud of being underhanded.
It was the Russians who enabled the Syrians to capture him.
No it was because the new Syrian intelligence chief was not stupid enough to trust people close to the Syrian leadership. He ordered a counterintelligence sweep that busted Eli Cohen transmitting radio messages to Israel.
I think a spy should exfiltrate as soon as the job is done by a kind of hydrogen balloon etc away from the field of operation .
Hydrogen balloon?
Are you being serious? 😅
But yeah, he didn't have the chance to an exfil.
He was on his own, having to send the message for which he was there in the first place, blocked in his room, with the Syrian authorities looking for where the signal was being transmitted.
He literally didn't have the chance of an exfil.
Respected 👍
it was the KGB , Who enabled the syrians to capture him
It was americans who created mossad

If was used , then left high and dry by the country he loved and trusted.
Imagine if he was of European stock, they probably would have organised a rescue mission.
I misunderstood" Eli Cohen intelligence helping Israelites to victory against Syria in the six day war " ?
Have you watched "the spy"? Limited series starring Sacha Baron Cohen? If not, check it out.

He is not spy, a terrorist
Hes name wasn't eli cohen
The Israelis gave this name to him after his death for additional humiliation to Syria
So what was his real name.
Why does that name give humiliation to Syria?
