- Khalil al-Wazir, better known in the Arab world as Abu Jihad, was a key figure in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), helping found Fatah in the late 1950s. For years, he was the effective deputy to PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat.
He was shot dead by Israeli agents in an audacious commando raid in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, in 1988. Israel denied responsibility for nearly 25 years until 2012, when an Israeli newspaper published an interview with Israeli soldier Nahum Lev, who killed Abu Jihad, eventually revealing the truth.
This film, Assassination in Tunis, hears from both sides of the story and traces the assassination in detail: How Israeli commandos made a beach landing in Tunis under direction from Mossad, Israeli national intelligence, and overran the villa where Abu Jihad was staying. Moments later, Abu Jihad was killed in multiple rounds of gunfire. His widow, Intisar al-Wazir, offers witness testimony to these final moments of Abu Jihad's life.
The Tunis raid that finally ended Abu Jihad's life was a high-risk venture for the Israeli special forces. They sent a hit squad to a foreign country to kill a prominent Arab figure and escaped undetected.
However, Nahum Lev's interview, published after his death, raised almost as many questions as it answered, including whether Israel had acted alone or had help from inside Tunisia.

The guy was "wanted" by Israeli's and in hiding on and off in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and so forth. He did not usually feel safe for more than a few days in Tunisia. You'd think w all the unusual things going on - the letter from France, the security guards being off for the day, the unusualness of everyone being kicked out of the area just a day or so beforehand, the lights going out both the night before and that day, and his own home being reduced to one guard, that the guy's "sense of serious trouble' should have kicked in. Why 'he" didn't take it seriously enough is a question in itself. I think sometimes that high-profile people develop a hubris - like the 'Red Prince" that the Israeli's hunted for years after the Munich Massacre. He knew most all the others involved in the operation to kill the athletes in Munich were one by one, had already assassinated yet he married Ms. Universe of Lebanon, was a womanizer, and got sucked up into a honey trap and met his fate.

The guards and security was sent away from the area. See how they tried as much as they could to repaint the operation as an easy one that any thugs would have achieved the same result and it need no proper planning and execution, because the Tunisian government was helping the Israelis, and AlJazeera is very happy to listen to it. The only way to discredit the successful operation is to make it look simple and easy thus snatching away the glory amd pride from the attackers leaving them as were just lucky and aided by the Tunisians security administation. But if the attackers were just lucky their wouldn't have to sweat their way out finding and eliminate the target. The PLO leadership too should be investigated i.e., Mahmoud Abbas and Araffat. For sure they wouldn't be too comfortable with men like Abu Jihad in their comrades in the leadership.

Inhabitants on the West Bank were advised to leave their homes as in a week or so the Jews would be defeated, they could then return to loot and plunder. 92% of proper Israel was purchased from Arab landlords (sale documents and registration papers and other land records are available). Current inhabitants of the West Bank are the responsibility of the invading armies. Ironically had the Arabs won, the plan was for Egypt to occupy the Negev, Jordan the West Bank, Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Lebanon the Galilee, Syria the Golan. Sorry - no room for Palestinians. Before planning a documentary it helps to get one's history right.

Abu Jihad was killed in 1988, and the official account released by Israel in 2012. However, Daniel Silva wrote "the Kill Artist" in 1998 describing the killing with details. Included in the book was the involvement of a French woman in the killing, and the shooter's directive to Abu Jihad's daughter to attend to her mother while making the escape. How did Daniel Silva know so much before the release of the report??
