  • This live stream is a follow-up to the Larapinta Trail Equipment Pack List video. In the live stream I will talk about what gear I would/would not take again (left in drop boxes), gear I added last minute and what gear failed and how we went about fixing it on the trail. This live stream is also to answer any questions/FAQs for those heading off to do the trail in the 2024 season from our recent trail experiences.

I recommend the Dutchware Gear folding sit pad, great piece of kit. It is super cheap and lightweight - 18g.

That night at Waterfall Gorge sounds hard. We got the big rain when at Hermit’s Hideaway. Luckily we managed to stay dry in the tents.
The big closed cell mat was a good idea, particularly as you used it as a chair also. Larapinta is a trail where you have peace of mind from a mat that can’t puncture!
I’m pretty sure we passed you two between Hilltop & Finke River. (We were going E2W) Looking forward to the rest of your trip videos.

It is tough when it rains and you aren't at a trailhead shelter - with equipment that fails! It was our low point on the trail for sure. We were lucky we weren't at a high camp like you - imagine if we had high winds on top of the rain with our tent! 100% happy we grabbed the mats last minute - Thanks Alex's Australian Adventures! I hope you enjoy the rest of the Larapinta Trail Series!

Alton Closed Cell Foam Sleeping Mat (R2) is great!

I would have opted for an Alton mat, but I didn't have time to purchase online

Have you ever tried hikers wool as a blister prevention/treatment?

Yes! When we arrived at Redbank Gorge we were gifted some by a group finishing the trek. I used it for my toe as it was still black from an accident the week before we started the trail. I also used it at the back of my heel to prevent rubbing on the uphill days - such as Mt Giles Lookout and Brinkley's Bluff. I will always carry some now as part my medical kit!
