  • The double haul allows for exceptionally long casting distances and helps to deal with a strong wind more successfully. However, mastering it has frustrated many fly fishermen because it can be uncomfortable. Once you've mastered it, you'll wonder why it was so difficult in the first place. Follow along with Topher Browne as he goes over a common mistake new anglers make when learning to double haul.

I have gotten really sick and tired of instructors who under-dress for fly fishing and so I want to express my gratitude. :)

As a fly fishing newbie, I've watched many double haul videos, and this video is the only one that explains the nuance (e.g. matching haul length with stroke length) that helped me to understand how to actually double haul. Thanks, Topher.

I have heard a short double haul referred to as a wrist double haul. Great video and well explained. Thank you.

Gotta look sharp when in front of the camera! The real reason is this was filmed for an Atlantic salmon fundraiser "gala" which was virtual. Hence the formal attire.

It is the standard garb of the traditional Scottish ghillie. A check shirt and tie. Shows respect for the fish and the client.

really good advice here learned that the point of the hall is mostly to straighten the line so the tension stays and it doesnt lose momentum double hall is hard to master specially with cheaper budget rods

Learning a front haul first makes it easier to then combine both front and back hauls

Is there any difference to the double when it come to line weight? Does a 6 weight double haul different to a 3 weight? Thanks for the great video.
