Excellent technique and technical explanation, all while making it simple to understand and see the actual mechanics behind the casting stroke and haul.
Nice video, well done. 👌 A few thoughts: Hauling is pulling the line thru the guides. It is done with both, the rod hand and the line hand. We pull the line hand away of the first guide and the first guide away of the line hand. Thus both hands are used to create the speed of the line thru the guides. In most fishing situations I have a target to aim at, may it be a fish, a certain spot or area on the water. In order to hit the target I need to match line speed. The level of line speed needed, I can produce with or without hauling. If I do it with hauling, I will have less rod bend compared to the none hauled cast. In a max distance cast, the hauling of course offers me the chance to increase max possible overall line speed. About haul timing I recommend to start hauling about when you start rotating the rod to create the desired line speed. In most situations I don't use the haul to create max possible line speed, but create the desired line speed in the easiest way (compared to a none hauled cast allowing to apply less force via rod hand).
Great demo! Get back on the horse and make more fly casting, fly tying, and fly fishing 🎣 videos! I just found your channel and subscribed. Great 👍🏽 work! Don’t stop.
To facilitate better line feed after releasing the line with the left hand on delivery of the cast it helps if you form a ring with your middle or index finger and thumb about a foot below the bottom rod ring this reduces the risk of the line bunching up around the bottom ring when cast even more effective if it’s windy reducing the risk of tangles.
Hi being new to fly fishing Kindly advise should I go into euro nyphing or traditional fly fishing any balanced gear recommendations and place to buy will be highly appreciated for overseas purchases. Thanks
The euro nymph and fly casting are two very different skills. You should do both and it is a lot of fun. The well-balanced setup will allow for a better experience with euro nymphing but certainly is not mandatory to get started. As far as places to buy your fishing gears I would try Facebook Marketplace in your area for used gears. If you prefer new gears then any local fly shop is the best place to start as they can give you advice based on local fishing conditions.
Often if I try to increase length line while false casting I lose speed and tension in line? Should I make sure i still have some of thick line in my left hand.
@@wisitchan can you show me what you mean by a regular piece of yarn and how you set it up on the fly rod. New to fly fishing and I plan to practice more often on grass fields in a park near me. Thanks for you response. Your videos are great to watch brother.
You make fly casting very easy to understand for the people who are just starting off, unlike other TH-camrs who are trying to complicate everything.

One of the best clearest explanation out there!! Thank you!!
I like the covering of haul length. I think thats something I struggle with in my hauling attempts. Thanks for covering this!

I especially like the demo with the masking tape on the wall.
I found it especially helpful for visual learners
Great help in my double hauling. You make it very clear to follow, thanks.
Thank you John!

How large is the 'ring' you are suggesting to make? Is it more of a 2' - 3' loop...or small 2" - 3" ring? Thanks!
@@gregvonseeger4098 how big are your finger and thumb???
Great tips, thanks!
No problem!
Most important for me !! Are releasing line out when false casting thus increasing length of line before final cast?
Get back out there. Great skills, demos and teaching skills! Go with One video a Month instead of the pressure of one a week. Hang in there !
Love your videos
Excellent, thanks

Realy good Lesson...thx
Super video👍👍👍

Are you letting out line during the haul, or do you keep the line pinched the entire time until you have the speed you want?
I let the line out during the back cast.
What are you using as a casting fly or lure to cast on grass? Thanks
Just a regular piece of yarn from the art& craft store :)

Anybody who can’t properly use their/there/they’re shouldn’t talk shit on TH-cam
