20 years ago, I saw a couple of episodes on VHS. A few days ago, I finally ticked off something long overdue on my bucket list: Watching the entire series. And it was truly a blast. What I would *GIVE* to live in a timeline where TVS didn't go out of business and more episodes of this show got made. Thomas & Friends is truly excellent, but TUGS was on a whole other level with its presentation, characters and stories. Beautiful voices, clever dialogue and banter, what have you. Despite the show's short life, a group of dedicated fans are still showing it love to this day, and introducing others to it to make it grow more and more. If there were ever to be a reboot for this short-lived show, I sincerely hope the people behind it know what they're doing and stay true to what made the show so beloved, even if it's in CGI.
Its because of people like you that Tugs will always have a voice. Your work cannot be understated nor can anyone else’s. As long as there are people to give it a voice, Tugs will always live on, you can bet on that! To Tugs!
@@steam-powered-cyborg I hadn't noticed the altered pitch but that kinda makes sense! It's also the way it's been edited like a movie trailer featuring lines from the each episode that perfectly encapsulate the series itself. And the marriage of ABBA and TUGS just screams that period of the late 80s! I know this sounds a bit far fetched but I actually could imagine David Mitton ending production of TUGS at Shepperton Studios, hopping into his car when 'Thank You For The Music' plays on the radio and as it's playing, he thinks back through all the scenes he's filmed and making an edit in his head to this song. This video would be that!
Two years ago, I fell in love with TUGS thanks to Wildnorwester's "Last Straw." And let us all be thankful for the internet and the little good it does bring. If for not the internet and Wildnorwester, I would just be Thomas the Tank Engine all the way! Thank you so much for making this! And Happy 30th, TUGS!!!! #LongLiveTUGS
That was a smashing video. 'TUGS' is certainty an amazing show and we cannot deny how clever David Mitton and the team were at putting all of this together ☺.
Happy 30th Anniversary TUGS. If it weren't for TH-cam, I would've never known about the series today. BTW, I heard on a Soundcloud interview with Mike O'Donnell that they were originally going to sell TUGS to America, but sadly never happened. If it were, then that would've been much better than that blasted Salty's Lighthouse (which I would call a HUGE disgrace to Tugs). #LoveLiveTUGS Hope the legacy lives on!
My guess as to why it never got aired here was because they couldn't find any channel wanting to pick the rights up. Had it been aired here all the characters would have been redubbed with American actors most likely voicing the characters with Eastern US accents due to Bigg City Port being heavily modeled after New York City
@@thesudriana016 it had the static motion Thomas had used (and of course was finding rapid success in the US via Shining Time Station) but the darker tone and the extremely short episode count of 13 episodes seemed to turn off studio executives. Shame really since the show would have worked even better with American actors voicing the characters like David Mitton probably imagined them to.
Gone but not forgotten, TUGS was a series that was blessed by the passion its fans had and the voice the internet gave to the crew who otherwise would've had this wonderful creation just become another forgotten majesty. The world of the Bigg City around it had such passion put into the atmosphere, characters and story that should not be overlooked by anyone, regardless of age. I feel like a hypocrite now for not knowing I missed this day by two days. :/
Walt Disney once observed that if you make content for children, you put in the same amount of effort as you would for adults as adults were once children. TUGS embodied this in every way.

I’ve known the show for over 5 years now, and I had never realized how beautiful a show about Tugboats could really be. But the6 are the closest company to make it after all they do have some of the models (I think) of tugs that the star tugs company didn’t have like the coast Guard and S.S. Vienna and they had to ask Mattel for permission to display the models they have
@@merlinandmurdoch7837 no because legally Mattel does not have the license to make Tugs merchandise The copyright to the show is in such a tangled mess it's unlikely it will ever see any form of new media much less a reissue

Did I mention that playing ABBA with TUGS footage was actually a magical thing to do?
It actually is. Like pitching 'Thank you For the Music' to near enough the same key as the opening theme just makes it blend in much more.

I really wish this show had taken off like Thomas the Tank Engine, especially if they kept the heavy emphasis on nautical terminology
How did you restore all the footage?
Also 2:15 was the scariest part of the entire show. No joke.
