    Rolex vs Omega is a classic luxury watch rivalry, and the best battle in sports horology rages today on “Weekend Watches!” Tim Mosso’s curated luxury watch gallery directs its attention to the latest Rolex Submariner and Omega Seamaster Diver 300M. This Saturday morning showdown between the biggest names in dive watches comes courtesy of WatchBox’s world-leading inventory of luxury preowned watches. Beyond the battle royal between Rolex and Omega, today’s show features luxury preowned watches from Audemars Piguet, F.P. Journe, Jaeger LeCoultre, and many more.
    The 2020 Rolex Submariner redefined the world’s favorite dive watch without rebooting its most important features. Still recognizable as the milestone sports watch that launched first in 1953, the Rolex Sub witnesses small refinements that add up to a new mode. Now 41mm, the Submariner gains slightly in size and significantly in power reserve, which rises from 48 hours to 70 hours. At the tips of its case, the Submariner 126610LN receives a modest redesign for greater lug taper and a finer match between lug width and bracelet end link breadth.
    The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M received a comprehensive redesign for 2018, but it remains competitive with the best watches in the dive watch class. At 42mm, this Seamaster Professional is close in size to its Rolex rival, but the feel on the wrist is of a far larger - and bulkier -- watch. However, technical innovations including a silicon hairspring, co-axial escapement, helium escape valve, and METAS chronometer certification offer exclusive advantages that Rolex can’t match. Moreover, Omega’s bracelet feels more solid and secure on the wrist than the latest version of Rolex’s Oyster bracelet.
    Additional preowned watches on this show include the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph in full yellow gold, an Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Perpetual Calendar in platinum, two platinum watches from F.P. Journe, and a set of show-stopping stainless steel burgundy dial Moser watches from limited edition runs of 15-50 pieces.

    You know, for a watch that's so damn hard to get, I see a lot of Submariners; mostly worn by people who go for the brand rather than the product. It's a great watch, but not "$9000" great. The Seamaster, on the other hand, is excellent value for the money.

      In London the Submariner is indeed a popular watch to be found on the wrists of various types of ppl. Most of these must have been bought on the secondary market above retail. I don't understand why.

    The Omega Seamaster over the Rolex Sub everyday, all day.... no comparison especially when it comes to price and the movement! I have a Seamaster and have tried on two Subs at the AD both two tone cause they make all steel hard to get.... I tried on the Seamaster at the AD to look at the size and walked out with that wooden box and ⌚:). I own Rolexes' but not awed by them ... I view several other brands as better quality for the money 💰.
    I would get that GP in a heartbeat.... It checks the blocks if you want a RO, Nautilus or Overseas....and it's about half the money 💰.

    Wearing that Moser tourbillon upside down and setting the time “inverse” would be really confusing at best. The hour hand would hit the hour markers while the minute hand hit the “inverted” 30

    The Seamaster 300M is almost a perfect watch for the price. However, the bracelet is not in the same league of the oyster. The difference in price between the Seamaster and the Submariner doesn't make any sense. If money and and availability are not an issue, I still would go for the Submariner.

    • @erikkalifornia5182

      I own both of these watches exactly, and prefer the taper and size of the oyster bracelet, but the clasp on the Omega is far superior. I understand that both feature tool free micro adjustments, but the Omega's system allows for easy adjustment without taking the watch off the wrist. The oysters glide lock system while very nice, requires both hands to function. If it's hot out, and my wrist is swelling, having to take the Rolex completely off the wrist is a nuisance, and honestly opens up to the risk of dropping it. In most cases, I prefer the oysters size and wear ability, but Omega wins hands down on clasp function and design.

    • @erikkalifornia5182

      The clasp on the omega is far superior to the oyster clasp. Granted if the bracelet tapered from 20mm to 18 or even 16 it would be better. But the push button slide on the omega clasp is far superior to the glide lock. To me, it's a huge bonus that the push button clasp on Omega's bracelet, can be operated easily while on the wrist, while the Rolex requires you to remove the watch so you can use both hands to adjust. Those adjustments are also harder to make, where it's super easy on the Omega. I own both, so I speak from experience using them.

    Concerning Lume: the omega cannot be used at night after some hours in the dark as the hands lose the lume effect at the thin sides of the skeleton hands and then you start guessing what are these dots close to the indeces. May be James Bond has better eyes. This a clear mal function, same effect with the Omega Aqua Terras (only Lume at the top of the minute hand (why???). Omega Planet Ocean only has Lume which fits the purpose. Don't get me wrong: Seamaster and Aqua Terra are wonderful watches but this unprofessional lume thing would not happen to Rolex.

    • @erikkalifornia5182
      @erikkalifornia5182 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you own the SMP? It's true the lume on the sides of the skeleton hands becomes difficult to read after a few hours, but there are huge lume applications at the end of the hands. There are no issues with legibility at night.

      @@erikkalifornia5182 Thanks for your comment. Might be my eyes are meanwhile not so good :) I checked this with SMP and Aqua Terra from my friends and they agreed - quickly reading the time at night by just having a glance at the dial is not possible for them too compared to a cheap watch like my Swatch(s) with lume applied on the whole hands, the lumed dots of the Omegas are between the indeces or below them so it is time guessing. For a tool watch acutally unacceptable, but anyhow the watches are brilliant looking at daylight - still saving for them until one fine day ....

    Take 300m of rope, go out to sea, attach both watches to the end of the rope... Once you pull it up - check the conditions of both watches. If one of them is flooded - this is where comparison ends. If both are flooded - they are both garbage. If they both work - proceed further with a comparison. Putting 300m on the face is easy.

    • @erikkalifornia5182
      @erikkalifornia5182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would probably help if you understood what the water resistant measurements meant. Both watches are rated 300m, but that doesn't mean you can dive with them at 300 meters deep. 300m just means they are rated for diving.

    • @vrokhlenko
      @vrokhlenko 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@erikkalifornia5182 I understand what 'rated for diving' means - it is actually 200m, not 300. Secondly, writing 100m, 200m, 300m while the watch would leak at this depth is bullshit. But thanks for assuming my ignorance.

    • @erikkalifornia5182
      @erikkalifornia5182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vrokhlenko Not sure we're talking about the Omega and the Rolex comparison, but they are both 300 meter dive watches. Again, watches use depth ratings in ATM or Meters, and they don't reflect the actual depth the watch can go. So the Omega and Rolex are both 300 meter, or 30ATM dive watches. That doesn't mean you can go to those depths. It is just a standard used for watches, not an actual measurement of depth you can take the watch. So it seems like my presumption of your ignorance was spot on, as you clearly don't understand. Also, no diver would use a watch with a 20atm, 200m rated watch to dive in. Most of the time, watches with 200m water resistant "dive watches" are so named, not for their ability to dive in, but because they look like a steel sports watch typically associated for diving. I would not go diving with my Tudor BB58, though would be more than comfortable swimming with it.

Just sold my AP royal oak as well for that matter. Those watches are not worth the hassle. Look forward to your future channel of attaching watches to ropes and pitching them in the ocean. Lol.

There are all kinds of stories floating around about ADs holding back stock for high rollers because Rolex holds back stock from the AD creating this inflated price aftermarket.
