I love how Violette is ready to learn, really. She doesn’t want to seem smarter than the stylist, she is there to learn and to listen. I love this quality of hers, humble and smart.
I love that this system doesn’t give you decision fatigue. I’ve been so overwhelmed by the pull-everything-out-at-once that I might get rid of one or two things but end up with everything in disarray and it takes a couple days to get everything back in place.
Step 1: THE REGULARS -Take out everything that you wear all the time Step 2: THE NEVERS -Take out everything that you NEVER wear STEP 3: CATEGORIZE THE “NEVERS” INTO 3 GROUPS 1) NO (I don’t like this, I don’t want to wear this) 2) NOT NOW (I don’t want to wear it now, I don’t want to get rid of it now) 3) HOW? (I love this, I don’t know how to wear it) STEP 4: THE REVIVAL - We use our REGULARS to bring the pieces we don’t know HOW to wear back from the dead STEP 5: CATEGORIZE -Organize your closet by category and color to see what you have and then filter in the REGULARS and NEVERS
Thank you! I would like to add: - Store the NOT NOW in a suitcase or somewhere out of your closet so you don't get distracted. Go through them once the season changes. - Take Photos of your new outfits! Keep them in a folder available. Update (with selfies, if you like) when you felt good in something during the day.
Don't give up, I lost 30 pounds and am now able to wear a bunch of stuff that I had not worn in 10 years...fortunately my style is lots of classics and they still work.
The way she explained made a lot sense and is a system that I can incorporate from now on. Thank you for taking your time to record and edit this video.
I feel like the “How”-step is often missing from these types of clean out videos but it makes such a difference if you take the time to work on your style rather than make quick “love/don’t love” decisions which can still leave you with an incoherent wardrobe. Pairing things in new ways is great for rediscovering old pieces but it’s hard to do that in the morning when you’re not creative...at least I’m not.
I have seen so many of these videos (and consider myself a master at cleaning out my own closet!) and am SO INTRIGUED by Allison's approach! It is so effective! Love. x Erika
I literally did this system this morning and it took me 45 mins to edit my closet, flip my clothes (put away spring summer stuff), and now I can visualize my style words and excited again to revive my wardrobe 🥰 Allison is BRILLIANT!!
Perfect, let me delete all the Pinterest "closet organisation" I pinned in the past 10 years and truly never look at...and stick to this simple system! Merci Violette!
Allison needs her own channel. I'd love to see more of her personal style. Everytime i see her, I want everything she has on which rarely ever happens for me. Also, love the concept of refreshing your wardrobe without buying new things!! Thank you Violette!
@@TheGreenlove87 omg she really did!! I loved these videos and kept looking for new ones. Now I'll binge watch all of them in her channel. For anyone looking it's Allison Bornstein.
I am the biggest non-fashion person on this planet yet I still was super impressed with this video. 🤩⭐️🙌🏼 So much to take away and implement. So many great ideas. The best was to take photos and keep them in a folder in your phone. Loved that one. So on those mornings when you’re too tired to even think about what to wear, just consult the wardrobe goddess in your phone and two mins later you’re dressed. Thank you for sharing your personal wardrobe with us 🙌🏼🥰💕⭐️
I friggin love Allison. She’s such an amazing stylist and has practical tips that anyone no matter what shape or size can use. Thanks for introducing her to us violette!
I love how the concept is different! I always see those kind of videos with the same 1. get everything out of your closet then make three piles..... this was really helpful!
Doing these steps the next time I do my decluttering. I've been doing the Marie Kondo method for the longest but I feel like I never get to get rid of enough because clothes are my happiness so a lot of pieces give me joy. Especialy since the method is a general technique for all of decluttering areas (books, furniture, miscellaneous, etc) while this one is more focused on closet decluttering. This is a lot more ruthless and methodical in my opinion so it really gives so much space for analysis.
This is perfect for those who tend to approach decluttering as a mammoth administrative task - it becomes really sterile; whereas this is like wardrobe curation and let’s you play with your past and present style a lot more! It’s not ruthless for the sake of eliminating but it’s very considered - LOVE this method!
You’re the most amazing fashion professional I’ve ever come across... I’ve listened to so many videos about decluttering and organizing and what I should wear, but you are the first one to make it make sense for me. Thank you so much 😄😁
this was BEYOND useful. I’m moving from the UK all the way back to Australia and I am def using this to pack. was feeling so overwhelmed and now have a framework for packing! thank you xxxxx
I love the way ur how outfits were incorporated into ur regular outfits. Both of you have so much style! Useful for a new mum such as myself too. Inspired!
I LOVE this system! It’s simple but a bit more complex than love or hate and wear or not. I think when you just have a “maybe” category it just adds to the mess and doesn’t really give those unworn items a purpose or create a solution. The “don’t know how” Creates that solution. I think it also helps make an intimidating piece practical and helps the person see, “okay I CAN wear this” and once they mix it in with things they always wear that “idk” piece becomes an “I wear this all the time.” It opens the door for creativity in fashion and helps people love the things they already have. WELL DONE!
This was such a great and practical video! I love your style so much Violette!! Would love a further breakdown of your “regulars” and what you usually gravitate to. I want to shop and have a closet like yours!!
I thought I was pretty good at closet editing. Allison's approach is so logical and yet I'd never thought of it! I am heading into the closet this weekend to use the method. More Allison videos please!!
Such a great piece from a favorite duo! There are so many closet revival tips but this is fast, practical and fun! Merci for sharing your closet Violette and thank you for your great advice Allison!
Love the new looks that were created. It's amazing how many new outfits we can create from what we already have. One of my favourite things to do with clients!
this was so different than organizing, decluttering videos I watch, most of the time these people who clean out feel so stressful and overwhelming, but with your steps, it made a lot of sense and easy to follow thank you for that.
I took actual notes!!! I know a lot of people love the Marie Kondo style of cleaning but I feel like it doesn't really work for me as a modern women/girl in college. This seems a lot more practical and doable so I'm excited to try it ;)
I tried the system just now and it totally works ! I only took maybe less than one hour then I got five more new combinations of clothes, love it ! Will surely repeat this every season, thank you Violette and Allison ! Merci beaucoup❤️
Very helpful and practical way to reorganize your closet, it was very enjoyable video to watch as well! The dog is so cute 😍 Thank you for the great tips and beautiful outfits ideas ☺️
Oh my goodness! What a fantastic video!! I would have to say this is the best low-stress way of editing a wardrobe. Taking the things you wear the most so you can SEE THEM and then the I DON'T KNOW HOW TO STYLE THEM and mixing it in with your frequently "go to" pieces is genius! I am a very visual person and if I can't see it or touch it, I am not interested. Thank you so much for sharing this video. This also helps that you have shown this with a client/friend.
I am SO doing this exercise this weekend!! Brilliant approach to declutter and get some direction in your wardrobe...very helpful indeed..Thanks V and Allison is the bomb!!
WOW! I will be doing this system from now on. I don't have too many clothes but sometimes we forget to wear certain items and so on! Thank you so much X
This video makes me feel so relaxed...in a different way compare to other fashion closet declutter/organizing videos. They are all very satisfying to watch but this one explain the steps and the thoughts behind each one. I also love her closet set-up, it's so easy to see and reach for everything. I am surprised I didn't know about this video (and channel) sooner!! Also I love Deewee too :) such a sweet dog
Her step 1 is more than I own!!!! 😆 I have no clothing I don't wear. I keep a small closet with clothing I always wear. Everything that wasn't being worn was weighing me down, so I got rid of it all 19 months ago. My closet now only has items I love and wear regularly! And I can fit it all into 1 suitcase👍
Somtimes you just needs that friend that tells you what u really think hahah on somedays Im able to do such things myself and some days I find an excuse to keep everything 🙄
So I try and do this closet clearing/organisation every season, but I never quite managed to edit my wardrobe to leave me with a clear view of what I had and how to style it. This video has been brilliant. So practical and easy and just gives me the 5 step structure I was lacking. Violette, I really find your honesty refreshing, how you express your challenges as all us new mums do. Keep producing this authentic content, it's very enjoyable. Love from Essex, UK. Xx
This was an awesome video! Loved the way Allison took nice and basic items and turned them into amazing outfit So! For me her system made more since than does it spark joy. Totally doing this!
omg. I LOVE Alison's closet. All her outfits seem like they really suit her, she looks comfortable, and she looks great! Love the method. This is my first video but now I'm hooked! Salut!
Love this technique! Did she go through ALL her clothes for every season including Heavy coats, sweaters, velvets, as well as summery tanks, shorts, etc? I’m in Texas where fall/winter mornings & nights are cool but days are often warm & sunny (but it’s always cold in stores & restaurants so I wear lots of pashmina shawls, cardigans & jackets!) Not sure I remember what I wore most on really cold days last fall/winter??? Sorry if I’m rambling… Would love to have you do this with me!
This video is 4 years old and everything is still relevant. This is real style

Thanks!!
The regulars, what a great start
What does filter in the nevers and regulars mean?
I personally have a pile called "things i'm way too overweight to wear but still keeping them in case i loose 60 pounds in three months"
Don't give up, I lost 30 pounds and am now able to wear a bunch of stuff that I had not worn in 10 years...fortunately my style is lots of classics and they still work.
Saaaaaammee.
A removalist once asked me why women always have huge boxes labelled “skinny clothes” 🤣
@@debloui 😆😆😆😆
That’s totally the ‘not now’ pile...you’ll get there!
just try not to actively buy clothes too small for you, took me yrs to learn that ;)
