yeah, the chebby is one of the most common and cheapest engines to build and modify, and the aftermarket support is phenominal. If you want cheap speed a chevy mill is where it's at. Ford is a close second.

FYI, all m715 have "1 ton axles" specifically a dana 70 rear and a dana 60 front axle

Actually, m715s were rated at one and a quarter (or "five-quarter") tons. I'm pretty sure the axle swap was done to get the disc brakes.
