Dont know if y’all noticed but as an air bender aang is a vegetarian and an animal lover. He’d never hurt one... BUT HE AIRCUT THAT BUZZ ARD BIRD THING IN HALF!!! AHHHHHHH DX
That was his sniper mode!!!
Just imagine being toph. She’s never been shown the avatar state. She just heard angs voice change to a demons and felt hurricane force winds. Scary af
...I've never thought of that...
She probably also felt his heartbeat change.
How did I watch this 70 times and never realize this?
plus she kinda blames herself for not saving appa
@@Prince_the_One Well they're in sand in this scene and he's very light on his feet anyways so I doubt she'd be able to detect his heartbeat in this scenario
This episode highlights why Katara is so important to the group. “I’m trying to keep everyone together.”
Her natural family was separated. She will not allow her new family to fall apart. She will keep everyone together at any cost.
Like Iroh said: “The people of the Water Tribes have a deep sense of community.”
Oh yeah, she put the team on her back
It's also important that while Aang does care about Appa deeply on his own, Appa is also the last living thing from Aang's time that connects him to his now extinct culture, so that compounds the feeling of loss and makes it even worse.
He’s his Bucky Barnes. End of the line.
Don't forget Momo
@@Prince_the_One Yes, but also no. He didn't know Momo until the gAang went to the Southern Air Temple, suggesting that there are still populations of lemurs around. So while he connects Aang to his culture, he doesn't carry the same emotional weight that Appa does.
Technically Bumi also is from his time.
I remember being really emotional right at the end, the avatar state only switches on when aang feels so much pain even his past lives think his life is threatened, can you fucking imagine the level of grief he felt? And when he killed the flying insect? That shit gave me goosebumps, Aang's whole culture and belief system is related to respecting and protecting life... And he killed that insect even when it wasn't a threat anymore. Appa is not only his spirit animal but he is also the one thing he has left from his own culture, the genocide only left them...so I think my boy took things well, all things considered.
You guys are amazing!
I don't believe the buzzard bee died. Spoilers.....
When appa attacked 7 of them with a much more powerful air attack, they are flew away.
@@tylerrushford7609 But buzzard bee died? You can clearly
see that, it's cut in half.
@@syressx9098 it is most definitely not cut in half.
@@tylerrushford7609 i think if you slow down the clip you can kinda see that it looks like it may be cut in half, but it is hard to tell for sure. it's still a note worthy moment regardless because, whether he killed it or not, he meant to do harm to a living creature that was no longer a threat. it's a moment that made me feel incredibly sad for aang.
@@miri6220 yes, the fact he was willing to hurt something for appa and momo is definitely an important thing in the show. But I think it's the buzzard bees neck. It's a weird shaped creature, and they tried to keep a very simple version of its outline intact.
Katara was the mvp of this episode
Big Facts.
katara doesn't get enough credit in general. she put this team together. she made aang face his destiny as the avatar. none of this happens without her.
@@sirmoonslosthismind Katara is easily one of the strongest characters from this show in skill and mind. She is who Azula could be if she had a better home life in my opinion. I think that a highly skilled person, a prodigy is even stronger if they’re a good person and not someone who is cruel.
@@neonoires I got the president's award in fifth grade signed by George Bush. I was called a prodigy✨✨✨then I got bullied through all of middle school 🏫 and got horrible grades for a few years lol, but in highschool I soared and my grades were awesome, so your environment really matters
I agree.....................................but she should’ve let Aang throw hands with those Sandbenders
This is really the first time we've seen Aang so aggressive, forgeting his pacifist nature for a moment and harmed an animal, and nearly a bunch of people. Really see, even the kindest people can reach a point of such anger.
Definitely. He was snapping a few times for damn sure.
Sad and powerful episode, never seen Aang so angry. But Sokka certainly cuts the tension lol! He was SOOOO HIIIIIGH! His Cactus Juice ad is still great 🌵 🧃
They needed to have those super wacky Cactus/Sokka moments to balance it out!!
This episode really cemented Sokka and Momo as running buddies who dive headfirst into trouble.
Later...
Toph: I just did something hilariously foolish.
Sokka/Momo: Hold my cactus juice.
Very true they both have tremendous heart too! Momo attacking Zhao in S1E20 = Sokka facing down the Fire Nation ship alone in S1x02!
Katara knew just what Aang needed because she’s felt that pain when her mother passed
Yeh true!! Incredible story telling and depth in characters!
Worth sharing, Katara holding Aang while he is in so much pain is considered one of the most powerful scenes for Katara.
A powerful scene for Aang as well! Him crying while in the Avatar State was such a powerful image. He was at his most powerful and yet, he was so emotionally vulnerable...
i think that moment may just be my favorite scene in the entire series. i tear up every time i watch it!
@@miri6220 my favorite scene is probably Zuko confronting Ozai during the eclipse. So good to see him finally standing up to his father, and putting him on his ass.
This episode is a perfect reason why she’s perfect for him and “The Southern Raiders” episode (even though it’s Zuko and Katara working together) is the perfect episode showing why he’s good for her. They are both at their lowest and their absolute worst versions of themselves. They know the real them and when they blow up on each other they don’t shame them or berate them they know “you don’t mean that your in pain rn” and are patient for each other. He lashes out at her and she’s still there to hold him so he can finally break and grieve properly. She wants to go take a life and he tries to talk her out of it because he knows that’s not who she is even when she invalidates him and a genocide survivor and him losing Appa
If you don't drink Cactus Juice, you didn't have a childhood
Best way is do not drink cactus juice.
Drink cactus juice! It'll quench ya! Nothing's quenchier.
*IT'S THE QUENCHIEST!*
Sokka saved them
When you think about it
“TELL ME WHERE APPA IS!”
The voices of literally every airbender in the avatar line at once
I assumed it was literally every one of his past lives not just the airbenders
I kind of dig that headcanon that all the air nomad avatars are the most furious at Appa being taken.
@@TriXJester It would make sense that the others agreed, though, since, apparently, each of them got a flying bison. They weren't connected to them on the same levels as the air bending avatars, but they understood the significance. Everyone who knew air benders did.
@@sailiealquadacil1284 Not all Avatars got a flying bison, they all had ANIMAL GUIDES, hence why Roku has a dragon and Korra has a polar bear dog.
I believe it's more like.. every AVATAR.. Roku the most
Chief: "What did you do?"
Toph: "Your son stole the Avatar's skybison."
Chief's Son: "We didn't know it was the Avatar's skybison."
Ace Attorney: *HOLD IT!!!* So you admit you stole a skybison from a *BLIND GIRL!*
I heard you hit my son...
Yes sir...
May I ask why?
Well, sir, he stole the Avatar's Skybison
Oh...
The best comment I've seen today! I'm was laughing so hard, almost had an asthma attack.
@@blighttale5550 I'm glad you enjoyed the comment. I'm sorry for the wheezing coughs. I always keep my albuterol inhaler handy for the same reason.
I like when you say Appa with the midwestern accent. It makes me picture Appa as a station wagon which is delightful.
I love that they keep bringing up Game of Thrones, it's a huge compliment to how well this show is written.
Love this episode. Seeing Aang weeping in the Avatar state is always heartbreaking.
Such a powerful image!
I love re watching the show through you guys. Your takes and jokes make the show better. Thank you.
The ending was so beautifully and masterfully done. Katara pulling Aang down and silently comforting him was such an emotionally-stirring moment. Nothing needed to be said, the visuals and music did all the talking. You could feel everything that Aang had been feeling up to that point - anger, sadness, confusion, and deep loss. Him literally crying while in the Avatar State was such a powerful image to see. He was at his strongest, but he was also so emotionally vulnerable. The contrast was beautifully sad. The music was also beautifully sad! One of the most emotional soundtracks I've heard in the show thus far.
Major props to Katara this episode though. She's honestly the MVP! When everything and everyone was falling apart, she was the glue that held all of them together.
Also, a little thing I noticed and loved was the fact that despite lashing out at Toph earlier, Aang instantly believed her when she pointed out that it was Ghashiun who stole Appa. Despite initially blaming her and being angry, Aang still trusts Toph without hesitation.
Omg you’re here! I remember you from other reaction channels lol
@@neonoires Lol I remember you too! 👊
I can’t even watch the final moments of this episode without crying
This show has gotten me a few times, definitely a few times coming up.
It was lookin’ like Dustin was on his way to Tear Town watching the final moments of this episode as well
Tearbending!
I love it when you call me big Appa, put yo hands in air if you can bend ayaaah
This is it!!!! ⚡️☝🏻⚡️
Well, I think Zuko's 'excuse' or reasons for his anger are mostly related to the child abuse. I mean his father burned and disowned him and I can't imagine living with his sister (who was greatly influenced by their father) was good for stability...
Aang killing the buzzard wasp after he'd already saved Momo from it was just such a cool "Ohhh he is pissed!" moment. Just...this kid is a vegetarian, and a pacifist, and that was just pure revenge; he no longer needed to rescue Momo.
I cant believe you guys are so positive when you are watching a sad/dark episode of ATLA( im not talking about cactus juice things lol) you have something special right there
The most recent episode of The Mandalorian was called 'The Tragedy', and they were so hilarious throughout their reaction, it was awesome.
This episode really cements Katara as one of my favorite characters here. It takes a lot of strength to remain nurturing and to hold people together when things are hard. She held it together even in times on uncertainty. I feel bad for Aang because Appa is his last connection to his people.
Also as a kid I remember being so stressed because this is the first obstacle that wasn’t resolved within a couple of episodes. I genuinely got sad lmao
The voice acting in this episode is so criminally underrated.
The whole Sokka cactus juice sequence is just unbelievable.
But Aang's "You MUZZLED APPA!" is just another level of voice acting, at least for a teenager.
Can you imagine how confusing this was to Toph when Aang entered avatar state?
I feel like a lot of people underestimate how precious Appa is to Aang. He's so goofy and happy go-lucky all the time, its easy to forget that his entire nation was genocided. His friends, teachers, father figures killed, and he couldn't do anything to save them.
Outside of the air temples, which are now ruins, there is not one living remnant of his culture left, except for Appa and Momo.
Not to mention from Aang's perspective, all of this seemed to happen in just the last few months, rather than 100 years ago...
That’s a first time Toph has experienced avatar state but because she can’t see and relies on vibration she felt it she felt the sheer power coming from Aang. You could see it on her face I bet in her head she was like “twinkle toes” ! You good ? +The multiple voices echoing Aang’s. That’s scary 😦
You guys killed this one, Again!!! 😂🤣👌
Man the jokes kept coming non stop, the 🌵 juice was on 🔥 🤣
Keep them coming!!!
"Is there food in it?" Me about everything 😂😂
💯💯💯
This is one of my favourite episodes partly because of the intense emotions and great character moments and a much larger part because of the cactus juice
For Aang his frustration really has nothing to do with accomplishing his mission. His companion was just stolen, not just his car.
His friend, his brother more like
One of my favorite episodes tbh
Him: I'm from the Midwest. I pronounce it differently
Me, also from the midwest, pronouncing it correctly: oh?
lmao same
Yes! The disclaimer was exactly for this kind of commenter! Congrats! 🙌🏼
Man Aang crying in the avatar state gets me every time
That Katya T-shirt is awesome. The niche where Drag Race and Avatar meets is where I thrive and where I want to be everyday.
omg I just noticed it was Katya, that's great
I love y’all’s reactions! I look forward to this every week 😊
Aw thanks Audrey!
I wrote this in a comment once, and I’ll do it again: The Rough Rhinos are the coolest push-overs in the series.
aang murdered in this episode
"I've never taken a life"
Yeah, Aang.. I'm sure you didn't.. :D
@@Daesma999 buzzardwasp: ARE U SURE ABOUT THAT?
That was definitely a vengeance kill. Maaaaaaybe it didn't die. But still, he broke his one rule.
@@lukefisher7600 Appa is the only one who can get Aang to really do that, break his rule and go for the kill. Appa was always his closest companion
Thing is though, up to his point Toph has never witnessed Aang in the Avatar state. So imagine suddenly hearing about 10,000 voices shouting all at once from the kid you've been calling TwinkleToes the entire time...
The bison's been kidnAppa'd.
Some people don’t like how Aang acts in this episode.
But I think it really brings home a 12 year old dealing with some sh*

Me: *higurashi flashbacks*
14:33 is such a powerful still image to me with the context. So much power and rage held back by a hug and the cherry in top is the tear he shed while in that state.
now when you see a bunch of cactus juice merch, you'll know what's up LOL
IT'S THE QUENCHIEST
i'm so glad you're getting into ba sing se now, that shit's gonna get REAL intense. if you guys don't do some serious tearbending before this season is over, i'll be disappointed XD
2:08 haha those were the best weekend update skits , along with Stefan
part of the reason why the action scenes continue to be fresh and intriguing is because the animators/creators based each bending form off of a literal martial arts style. for example, waterbending is founded on tai chi because of its fluid, adaptable nature, and earthbending is based on hung gar because of its rigidness and rooted stances!
also, sean’s glasses this episode were a fashion statement 😂
GIRL LOVE KATYA T-SHIRT
Y'all are heading into my favourite story arc.
17:22: Zuko is still trying to find out what his place in the world is. When he was banished, he not only lost his home, but he was publicly shamed in front of hundreds of spectators. Then told the only way he could come home as a hero, was to meet a goal he was never meant to accomplish.
Then, 2 years later, his mentally abusive little sister comes along and tells him that their father considers him a colossal failure to the country and wants to imprison him so he can no longer embarrass their country.
Just having Iroh around to give him guidance isn't answering the big question that Zuko has, which is, _where does he belong, and where how honor really is._
Fans when show aired appreciate this ep the most is my opinion. This ep gets me every time that ending hits ne in the chest when the music swells
When Aang killed the buzzard bee that showed how much losing Appa hurt him, because Aang’s while belief system is to protect all living things, and then he goes and aggressively kills this thing even after it’s not a threat anymore.
Didnt get the job, but my quest for overcoming this covid economy won't stop!!
Also gotta love how tension is balanced out with cactus juice in this ep
Im late to this channel, these reactions are fucking entertaining and the edits are niceee
sean and dustin i am Obsessed with both of your glasses
Thanks!!!
Can’t wait for later episodes!!!! Can’t wait for the uploads!!!
These artists learned basic martial art moves in the studio. That’s why you see some great choreography in these episodes
Uncle Iroh is just an amazing character who you want to be real. His life's resolve is very strong and he's wise because of it.
Like when you really get to see all of Uncle Iroh's dimensions from all sides you really get to see truly why folks really do love him. There's one moment that Uncle Iroh has that just all out makes me boohoo until this fucking day. And trust me, you'll know it when you see it!!!!
Leaves from the vine....
This is my favorite moment when anng goes into the avatar state
You an hear the rage and emotion in his voice. For real those sanbenders lucky this is a nickelodeon show.
My favorite avatar voice list
1) Tell me were Appa is
2) Fire Lord ozai you and you fore fathers have devasted the balance of this world now you shall pay the ultimate price.
3) No its not over
The girl could be a cartoon voice over when she said Zuzu it sounded like Azula
3:50 keep your hands in the a-yuh, if you aint got ha-yuh
I Always think a piece sushi is on her head
I wish 😳
Wan Shi Tong isn't smart he's a hoarder.
Been waiting on this one!!!
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe and Merry Christmas.😉
You too bud!
I love that chick, but the Boys were about to cry with Aang if she wasn’t cracking jokes lol but oh well. She was drinking coffee 😂
14:19 wow such a great reference. 👌
14:29 look at justin reaction, that feel face
Hey, Chavez, how come they ain't killing us?" 🤪"Because we're in the spirit world, asshole. They can't see us."
ATLA > GOT for me! This was the first episode but it was just the end and we didn't have the guide with our cable at the time. I had to search for the show high and low until I found the name of the show!
Appaaaa... just killed a man... 😂😂😂
Is that a Katya shirt cause if it is that’s hella taste😌
HO.LY.SHIT. The desert is here. Oh my God! Okay, it's happening. Everybody stay calm. Everybody stay fucking calm!
Avatar Times with Friends IS THE QUENCHIEST!!
Omg, tell her I love her Katya shirt!
Imagine what Aang would do to Ozai if he took Appa!
WHERE ARE MY BISONS!?
Lololol
Did the dog in the clipped you used live? Like that is terrifying.
11:30 No it's the circle birds
I thought Dustin was about to cry
When the avatar state is triggered all avatars are present, when katara touches aang in avatar state the others go away cause aang didn't maintain his social distancing and goes back to good ol aang 🤣🤣🤣
Iroh / Davos Seaworth great comparison!
As i am watching this all I can think of is oh they are going to be crushed soon with the saddest episode in cartoon history (for me anyway) the appa journey broke me.
Sokka’s hilarious xD
Now that you have mentioned that, Davos and Iroh is really kinda similar. Now I miss Game of Thrones again. This is actually the first channel that I watched for Game of Thrones reaction when I started watching it. This show is almost similar to GoT in terms of action and great storytelling. Well at least if we are not including some specific season.
Hey guys? What's up? Hope you're doing well! I'm watching RoboCop Director's Cut.
Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
The fact that I just watched Ted last night made me laugh so hard.
For me it’s the funniest scene in the movie
Hey guys, I noticed in the video I don't know if theres another comment on by chance and if so that you guys have already read. but the comment about avatar not having a video game on the part where Azula's vsing Aang, theres an old Playstation 2 game Avatar the last airbender the burning earth!. I recommend watching YT videos on the game. I played the game as a kid and to this day find soo much fun out of playing it and HIGHLY recommend you guys checking it out!!! :), Also new to the channel and instantly Subscribed!, Love ya content
Katara might know the off switch but Aang knows the on switch
Hey hold up, I’ve got a question. Y’know how every avatar gets a animal guide? Aang didn’t know he was the avatar until he was 12, but in the flashbacks he’s a lot younger when he and Appa meet. So??? Did all the Airbenders get one??
It's very sad. Aang feels guilty because he ran and he never got to see his family of monks again, just to discover they were murdered. Now the only living being (Appa) is missing. That must make him feel more lonely and guilty, like he is not able of protecting anyone even if he is the Avatar. And he is just a kid at the end of the day.
Loving that Katya shirt!
🌍 TELL ME 💧 WHERE 🔥 APPA IS ! 💨
trying to finish my homework so i can get into cyberpunk 2077 tonight but you guys know i have to drop everything for some of my favorite reactors watching my favorite show :) love you guys!!
❤️ you too Chance!! Hope CP is fun as hell!
Is that a Katya shirt?! 😍😍
Fear and Loathing in the Earth Kingdom
Also Robert Patrick reference? .... yeah keep a pin in that.
We can’t stop here! This is Momo Country!
Uncle Iroh was hit by a blue fireball not lightning.
