TO FIX THAT PROBLEM, YOU HAVE TO TINGTEN UP THE LOWER SHAFT SCREW! THAT THE PROBLEM!( NOT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT.)

Thanks for the video, I think the play is in the sliding shaft of the intermediate shaft. By pulling the shaft off you have refitted it slightly higher which has made it work on non worn splines in the shaft and so making the play better. I have the same problem and found that just pushing the U/J as far up as possible has cured the problem. I wonder if greasing the splines on the shaft may have the same affect.

The steering intermediate shaft is a weak point on these models

The crescent wrench slipping off the nut suggested that the nut was already on securely. Was the nut actually loose??? If it was I missed a step. And did tightening it up solve the problem? Thanks

I believe you are using the crescent wrench upside down, flipped over it would have a better bite

    Hello
How to install rubber protection located on the shaft that enters the cabin?

    • @alltsab

Hi! Does the steering shaft also produce noise on small road bumps before?

I would like to know this aswell, as my Rav4 has a clunking noise, passed Mot they put all the bushes through the tests and couldn't find any defective. My thought is the steering rack seal/inner bushing has failed.

The shaft if worn, my first lasted 20000 ml second is worn at 50000ml will cause amazing knocks when turning the steering and over rough roads. Fitting a new shaft will transform the drive experience. Be careful if you do it yourself don't let it go out of alignment.

I believe he used hose grip pliers, but you can use a pry bar or even a long flat head screwdriver for the same purpose.

He didn't align the paint spots when he finished.

He didn't slide the coupler off so no misalignment.
