    I really appreciate the detailed explanation of your lessons! I believe these foundational movements, when learned, will make every movement more easily accomplished. I assume these foundational thoughts for the 3 steps would apply to all of the inside, outside, and amazing looking turn sequences I see executed on the dance floor. I don't know yet how to do all of those turns, but it would be nice to learn them.

    Would really like to see additional instruction regarding turns, etc for waltz. Your explanations in all of your dance videos are excellent and easy to understand. Thanks.

      Hi there. Thank you for stopping in and contributing! We appreciate that so much. We did post a turn technique video... while it is titled country dance spins and refers to Two Step a lot, it would apply just as well to waltz. Just know that, in waltz, we would use primarily pivot turns (which are explained in the video as one of 3 options). You can find that video here:

      If that doesn’t address what you’re looking for, let us know!

    Very nice video! But as a complete newby, I need to stick to the plain "Box Waltz" I would like to dance the Waltz with my Beautiful Wife on our upcoming 25 year anniversary. I have chosen Anne Murry's "Can I have this dance for the rest of my life" Thanks Again!

      Totally. Waltz is a tough one to get started with. From a purely learning to dance perspective, it definitely makes sense to start with the box step... on the other hand, we tell our students that learning the box style of waltz is kinda like Mr Miyagi teaching wax on, wax off. It has to eventually transform into Karate.

    Love the video! However, is it possible to close the curtains to reduce the distraction so we can focus on you guys? Thanks a million.

      I (Anthony) used to hate the smooth dances such as waltz. What I realized later was that I didn't like them because I didn't understand them. I think that's pretty common.

      @@countrydancex I've watched this video several times and it looks like the only time you and Rease are in the closed position is at the very beginning. For the rest of the waltz you and Rease alternate between promenade and outside partner. Is that correct?

    Nice move and very nicely executed. I say more repetition and less explanation would make the video even better. YMMV.

      @@countrydancex People have different learning and teaching styles. Relative learners like to know why, and they appreciate a lot of explanation. Sequential learners like to get right to it, and they don't like a lot of explanation. I have taught dance, and, like you, I do a lot of explaining, and I like to watch your TH-cams because of all the explanation.
      My advice when teaching use whatever your learning style is. Sequential learners can find sequential instructors, and they won't have to listen to all the explanations.

      Very perceptive. You are correct. 12 steps and only the very first one is in closed position :-)

    Love your videos, you are our favorite. A few thoughts: 1) It is distracting to have the monitor running in the background, it draws the attention away from your lesson. 2) On this particular video (Country Waltz Lesson) your videographer fails to show the feet many times, which makes it impossible to actually learn the steps. Consider remaking this video with all feet showing. Thanks again.

      We appreciate the feedback! That's how we know how to do it better. You'll notice the TV has changed in our newest videos, and we'll keep the footwork in mind for the future. :-)

    Really not true. Country waltz and ballroom waltz look very different. It's about more than the music. Look at a video with a "real" country waltz and a ballroom waltz, and the difference is obvious.

    • @countrydancex
      @countrydancex  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really true. There isn't just a dance called "ballroom waltz". There are both American and International styles (not to mention the 2 versions of Viennese Waltz). Country waltz is American Smooth Waltz danced at the silver level and above.
      Unfortunately, what is often dances at some country dancehalls at a low social level is just poorly danced waltz. That's not knocking those dancers, its just that you can't do something badly and insist on calling it a new thing rather than acknowledging that you're just doing it badly.

    • @walkingman2011
      @walkingman2011 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@countrydancex I can only assume you're technically correct, I'm no expert. Maybe both the ballroom and country waltz as I learned them fall under the American Smooth category, but visually look much different. AND, it's not just doing one badly, I've seen beautiful examples of both. So you can be correct and we can still disagree (if that makes any sense).
