Clearly a competitor review. Wife and I purchased a new 2006 Kia Sorento as our first family car and it still rolling strong. And now my daughter drives it. And now we have the 2018 model and is just perfect for our needs. It is just well built solid vehicle for its price.
You don't know what you're talking about, I have a 2016 sorento and the seats are nice and comfortable, no wind noise whatsoever, I can whisper at 80mph and everyone can hear me. I have the 3.3 v6 with 290 hp it's fast enough, and I get 18mpg city 30 hwy. I love this car . no problems so far after 1.5 years
Adrian B . He’s talking about what is available in Europe. Obviously the engine you describe is way better, but for tax reasons they don’t use it in Europe.
I own a 2016 Sorento V6 AWD and never would take it in to a sand dune with the street tires on it. If you try to off road with standard all season tires you are asking for problems. Now, put a more off road worthy tread pattern tire on it then try it again. Oh, news flash...this still isn't a off road 4X4 so it's only going to do so much. I love mine but I also know what not to do. I get tired of people complaining of things not doing what they want when they were never meant to do them. Have you ever seen a sand buggy? Special tires...hello! This is a GREAT all around SUV Crossover not a off road 4X4 monster.
I beg to differ with you. Granted your right about the OEM tires versus having the proper tires for going through the heavy sand he did in this video. However, the Dynamax AWD system on these vehicles are VERY competent for what they are. 6in or more of heavy unplowed snow no problems, thick mud on a rocky fire road no problem. What it comes down to is always the proper tires and knowing it's limitations. I'd be willing to wager if he had aired down his tires properly as your supposed to do when going through sandy beaches or other areas. And used the proper tires for this type of test. It would have made it through that sand like butter. What sets Kia's and Hyundai's apart from the rest in there segment is the locking diff button. Where other AWD vehicles figure things out automatically. These vehicles give you the added locking button which distributes torque evenly. It's like having a part time 4wd system in a sense. FAR more capable then say a Chevy Equinox or Ford Escape.
This is a really good review. Up there with Consumer Reports. Loved that you didn't edit out the part where you get stuck and you're on your knees, sweating, and full of sand. It adds so much credibility to your review. Keep it up. I subscribed to your channel.
I currently have a 2011 Platinum spec (Highest spec in Australia) Sorento which I've just ordered a new 2017 model to replace. I work at a dealer so I have had the opportunity to drive several of these and I can't begin to say how impressive they are. To be fair they haven't been a serious off road option since the original ladder frame BL model so any offroad capability is fairly limited but that's not what they're made for.
True but even the latest models from about 2018-2020 are quite competent off road. Granted they only have 7.3in of ground clearance so you need to know it's limitations before hand. However, from the various videos i've seen thus far here on TH-cam. I've been VERY impressed with that locking diff button which sets this vehicle apart from the rest in it's segment. Where others may have AWD it's an automatic system. But with the Kia and Hyundai that additional locking diff button makes all the difference. Especially getting through heavy unplowed snow roads and muddy fire roads.
I have a 2006 Hyundai fwd and it goes anywhere. I live on a mud hill and go to the beach often. The other day I slide off the mud road downhill into the ditch and had no trouble getting out. I am going to buy this vehicle here and I would never poke up a sand hill or plonk along like this guy in the sand. Long wheelbases like trucks have are no good on these steep uphill and sand areas. Short wheelbase and balanced load assist as well as guts and follow through 😊
Excellent video!! Great job.. But dude, that VAN is not designed for off-road. It is a VAN pure and simple with a chopped-top and a unibody!!! Great for getting the kids back home from the skating-rink in a mild snow situation. Excellent room and highway driving VAN.. Would highly recommend buying one as long as you never ever call it a SUV!!!
I have a 2015. I refer to it as my "old lady car" or "van that thinks it's an SUV". Before it, I had an 04 gmc yukon with 33" tires and a rear locker that did some off road time in MOAB. I also had an Astro van that was more worthy of the van name than the sorento. It's a car at the end of the day, a modern day station wagon. But I love mine. When the tires wear out, I'll go from the 19" rims to hopefully a 16 and a little more sidewall. Still a station wagon but it'll handle dirt roads and snow for camping and winter. It always made me laugh when people argue over the "type" of a vehicle "suv, van, truck"... I used to call my yukon a truck just to annoy the guys driving big diesel pickups.
@@Holgrinator I got to drive in a friend's just lately with a 2" strut-spacer lift and aggressive tires and about a Million LED lights bolted all over it.. Now I changed my mind.. It is a SUV with creature comforts like a Cadillac. At this price of GAS⛽, I would Kill to own one now 😃
@REDNECK INDUSTRIES the only downside is the strut spacer and bigger tires kill the mpg a bit. My yukon went from 18 to 12 with the leveling kit and 33s. If prices come back down my sorento will get the strut spacer and better tires. For now my old lady car will still haul my camping gear and a dirt bike on the hitch rack

@@tomtalker2000 I'm working on my Buddies 2016 KIA SORENTO LX AWD this Saturday morning coming up. Great vehicle, but it eats front Swaybar links. It has new Struts and Ball-Joints (2 years ago)but keep hearing a prominent screeching sound when turning left or right. Could the 2 year-old Strut bearings at the top be the culprit? He had a shop change out both Tie-Rod ends 2 years ago. Thank you
That’s not a fair 4x4 test. Some moderate off tossing would have been acceptable but when you drive over loose sand you need off read wheels. Those wheels are designed for general road use and light off roading.
I always enjoy your videos, I almost bought a Chrysler Voyager but when I watched u r program about Voyager i changed my mind and I m happy for that. Which is better family car ? VW Sharon 2016 or Sorento 2016?
For a family - definitely a Sharan. Just make sure it's got a full service history. Some warranty might be nice. In Poland VW Financial Services sells certified preowned cars with 1-year warranty, so even if you pay a bit more, you get that extra peace of mind.
You think you had it bad in the sand, I got my Sorento stuck in sand in the Dubai desert, midsummer, got out barefoot to see how deep, and managed to lock myself out of the car. Oh yes, and no support vehicle. Had to walk back in 44 degree heat to the main road to find help. Worst blisters ever lol. Never again will I drive in sand alone.
+Qasim Nasir yeah I knew I was not buying hardcore. I have a Land Rover Defender back home for that. I was just looking for an affordable yet comfortable SUV for a daily driver, which will also allow me to go camping and do some light offroading. So far it has been a great car. 50,000km problem free.
Hello bro, are Sorento 2016 better than Highlander 2011? or can compare with Highlander 2016?I love Sorento but highlander seem more popular, reliable and in my country Highlander are more far expensive than Sorento! even Highlander 2008 is around $33000 and Sorento 2016 is around $25000 only. Id like something like the Sedona Odyssey or the Sierra but after you paid because its an import you pay through the nose for carbon tax on those 3.5 L engines.
1st gen. Sorento with this same 3rd gen. summer tyres will need an idiot to play in the beach. I agree with your commends for over 2lt engine, tax decision makers.
The back seat can fit 3 people easily but in shape skinny folks. Naturally large people take up more horizontal space. Of course the instrument cluster is not like Audi, its not a full luxury vehicle. Like comparing Honda Accord to Audi a4, comparisons should be kept within vehicle classifications. Decent review but seems a bit bias

They are just road tires, not particularly worn. That's the problem with many SUVs these days. They are said to have some off road ability, but come as standard on road tires, and you have to invest in a different set to drive anywhere mildly challenging.
