this channel is bad for my health. I just picked up a 2018 Range Rover just because of you. Best machine i ever drove...now waiting for the Xmas lights in the dash.
I have a KX3 Sorento 2012 which I purchased outside the warranty, I had to replace the steering wheel Airbag and clock spring, and rear door lock, apart from that no issues at all, decent family SUV and very good for long-distance driving, I would highly recommend
Hi Matt, on the strength of your video on SUV's to buy, i traded in my Hyundai Getz 1.4 for the 2010 Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDi. It's a fantastic car with above average kit (for the year) and great handling. What really blew me away was the unexpected turn of speed i got from the turbocharged 2.2! I gave a few hot hatches a run for their money over 30 meters!🤣🤣. Really enjoy your channel here in South Africa
Bought a 2.4 GDI 2014 with opening sunroof, about 4 months ago, also a bit due to this video, very happy. Sat Nav works great, not expected that, and the leather seats are really excellent. I get about 8.4L/100km, mainly NL highway and D Autobahn, taking it easy :) Again many thanks, Matt.
I am thinking of buying the 2.4 GDI's too...but here in Malaysia it was not so popular, I was also scared of the problems but it seems all the comments here are saying that the car is ok to buy.
@@Pian_Malaya I believe the engine problems are mainly with the American production, mine is from S. Korea, it has done about 135,000 km and no problems whatsoever, topped up 0.25 liter of engine oil after 5000 km, which is nothing :)
Great review of what is a terrific vehicle for people who don't want to oay today's silly money for transport & have something reliable & comfortable & not bad on the eye 👌
Saw a slightly newer one in Sainsburys car park earlier - caught it from the corner of my eye and thought - thats big and looks nice...wow its a KIA. In a gun metal colour it looked like if you parked it on your drive the neighbours would think you were doing OK. My brother-in-law has a 14 year old CRV on 140k miles that he bought new. Its become totally unreliable recently ( though I think he is too tight to pay for dealer repairs ) but when I suggest a Skoda or KIA replacement would be a decent cost effective replacement he says he wouldn't have them because of "that badge". Give him a wave when you pass him - he will be easy to spot his is the black CRV on the hard shoulder of the M62
Yeah heard so many problems with the US 4cyl. In the uk we only really seen to have the 2.2d and it’s both a lot more economical & reliable from what I’ve seen online
Was looking for a 7 seater to replace our dying venerable Honda FRV, after looking at all options in our budget it came down to a fight between a 2014 outlander and one of these (exact same model and year as shown), this video helped settle the battle and very happy indeed with the Sorento, so thanks for a very helpful video!
@@gabrieloliveira3194 Hi there, one year later and still very happy with it indeed, comfortable, economical, and apart from a leaking radiator which was relatively chealpy replaced seems reliable too, 2 big road trips across the country with a family of 6 in decent comfort later still recon it was the best choice for the money. I wouldnt take a MPV against it either. Holds its own in a car park looks wise despite 10 years of age now. A friend has a Quashqai of the same age and seating arrangement and its been nothing but trouble and feels much cheaper inside when you sit in it.
I brought the Sorento Sat Nav (SLi, in Oz) new late 2012. Still have it having done 180km. Only problem is with the drive shaft and clock spring. Drive shaft completely seized up and could not be driven, Kia replaced it the whole drive assembly; front and rear differentials. Think I will replace soon although I have enjoyed the car. Engine still runs like new.
i used one for my work, but was the new 22 plate models. was a 7 seater self charge hybrid. over 50k worth of car it was that high spec. hadnt driven one before nor an auto which this one was and it was so easy to drive , both fast and cruising. for a 1.6 petrol turbo with electric motor putting out 226hp it was very quick especially kick down on the move. going up hills was a breeze. chuck it in corners without concern and does also 600 miles to a tank. i would have one if i had the money and i dont need such a big car. dont know what these older ones are like but you'd have no regret getting a newer one. kia do make really nice cars, my work car now is a 22 plate awd auto sportage and while the 1.6 turbo petrol engine shifts the car quickly and effortlessly for 150hp without any electric motor aid and rides well for a car on 19" wheels. its fun to drive fast in, but the serento handled much better.
Rear diff bushings can wear as the car ages too. The two small bushings at the front of the diff seem to be the most common ones to wear. Also, make sure you change the automatic transmission fluid every now and then. Once the fluid wears out you will have issues with the lock up clutch (feels like an engine misfire at certain speeds). Keep the fluid fresh and the transmission is very reliable. Still driving my 2011 model to this day. Great review.
I drive a Santa fé 2012 3.5 v6 petrol, 100k km here in Brasil, sister car to the Sorrento, great car, no problems aside from drinking a bit too much petrol, but it is fast, comfortable and really reliable.
Many thanks for this and your other best SUV for under 10k video. I have just picked up a cracking 2014 Sorento 2.2 Auto for £8.3k with 116k miles and a FSH. Such a great car and a whole lot of value for the money.
Hi Matt & Michael, same here I bought similar price and model... What your plan with the timing chain replacement/ repair...? It would be great to know what to do based on your experience
Got a 2011 KX-3 bought it last year with 92600 full Kia service history. I can confirm the clutch has a an issue, well more the slave cylinder was leaking. So that was a new clutch and dual mass fly wheel, at a lovely £1800. Also had the timing chain done as it sounded a bit tinny, could have probably got away with replacing the chain tensioners but I do a lot of driving abroad so had it done for peace of mind. That was £650, also had the alternator clutch done at the same time. Other than that it’s been great and I’ve put a load of miles on it in the year and bit of owning it.
I'm going to out myself as a bit old and say I remember when Kia were selling cheap, nasty things like Rio's for £1 deposit. Quite the transformation to go from that to one of the best and most reliable cars in one of the biggest segments in the UK market.
I had the 2010 KX3, Automatic, had lots of extras including Bose which shocked me. It had regular services, and never let me down. I still check on mot check and it's still driving around. 148k
Ahaha, thanks Matt, it looks just like a well all rounder. I was curious about the off-road ability, if it kept the old Kia’s roughness, but I think for that you’d better of with a LR of course. It’s another great tool for the job. Cheers
I replaced my Sorento 2012 reversing camera with a £11.45 one from Amazon. There's a TH-cam video on how to replace it. 30 mins work and all working again.
A couple grand more get you a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe 7 seater, manual which is what I've had the past 5 years from new and it's an amazing modern family car.
Had one in 2015 as a hire car for about 5 weeks .Did about 3000 miles all over the UK .TBH it was a very decent car and much better than my old Volvo XC90 that I had .The great thing was it was just a very easy drive ,and these days that is what I am bothered about!.Also it would carry a load of stuff.I remember a slightly scary emergency stop on the A55 expressway ,but it stayed on the road and did not crash .When I was looking to swap my old Volvo I seriously looked at one of these to replace it .
HI top man, you have sold it ,I'm at present looking for one I've had 2 Kia's in my life the first was an early Sedona 1.9 as a private hire driver 195 thousand miles the only cost was service, clutch pedal, tyres, brake pads and alternator ,second one was an early karens drove 100 miles a day to London and back never let me down I covered 120 thousand miles never let me down again the only cost was tyres, service and brake pads, I'm now a Toyota man again a great build of car 2009 Prius covered 121 thousand miles I've had it 10 years the only cost is service, break pads and tyres, but as I said in the beginning I'm seriously thinking of going back to a Kia lots of bucks for your dosh. Best of luck keep up the good work. I forgot to mention I'm still on the original battery pack in the Prius, not bad going.
My wife has a 2016 Sorento platinum, 110 000 km, only problem we had was a broken handbrake cable, otherwise goes like a dream with all the bells and whistles you need.
As with Skoda, both Kia and Hyundai were always moving forward and you knew it was only a matter of time before they became the car to have. Like Datsun in the 70's, welcome to the future. Bring on affordable, reliable motoring for the masses.
LOVE the cutaway shot exposing the engine. Little things like that really elevate the vids. Any thoughts on Skodas current lineup? Considering a 2018+ Karoc
Great honest review. Nothing like experience when reviewing a car. You should open in Ireland, major shortage of second hand cars here. Prices soaring on 2nd hand cars. Brexit meant we don't get as much from UK anymore . A golf I bought 3years sgo now worth 2k more than I bought it for. You should talk to dealers over here.
Hopefully you'll add the skoda Kodiaq to the list, Great looking suv in my opinion, i had one for two years a 17 reg never any problems with it, the DSG gearbox was ok did the job, amazing room inside i only had the 5 seater but it was wasted on me always felt i should be doing the school round when in reality i only had a dog so i got rid.
Feel safer in a well built car with some size like that though which is important on today's roads. I was sad at feeling the necessity to change a cracking little Fiat I'd bought new and liked after being tailgated at speed by a cattle transporter one night and a big suv on another occasion, sad about driving standards and enforcement nowadays, but safety of loved ones came first, not that my car is going to protect me from another Scania but feel safer facing yobs in cars.
1 thing I’ve always tried to figure out-if you need all 7 seats, 5 kiddy’s, going on holiday you’ll need some luggage etc. what is the biggest boot 7 seater, when the seats are all up? Q7, x5, LR discovery, Mercedes ml/gl xc90. Or the people buses-vw sharan, fords galaxy/smax, etc etc. It stands to reason, that if you have 7 people, you’ll need plenty of luggage. And each 1 I’ve seen, the boots are woeful at best.
I have this model of 2.0 diesel fwd car . It's really awesome to drive in terms of prices and economic sides. Just a little bit discomfort you might feel regarding suspension system when it comes to bumpy, hollow hole etc. In that side it's so solid car but in the highway it's normal no any discomfort while driving.
We have a 2014 v6… 118,000 miles. Catalytic converter needs replacing 😢and the timing chain tensioner rattles like a lawn mower on every cold start, forums say it’s a matter of time before engine rebuild. All known Kia faults and no redesign done to the GDI 3.3 engine. Hoping it will last me long enough until I can trade in for something else.
Great video, very good car too. It’s mainstream, but still outside the box. They make very good towing vehicles. We see plenty of them where we keep our horse. Cheers Matt , such a great video very well produced 👍🏼
Oh, and also, you’re absolutely bang on. I have the widescreen nav virtual cockpit thing in my passat and genuinely only use it because it looks cool. Apple maps is a million times more intuitive. Has to be the geekiest thing I’ve ever said
Yep I love my sportage no issues with it starts 1st Time whatever the weather only niggles heavy on petrol as its 1.6tgdi and awd apart from that it's great. I was getting the sorrento but opted 4 the sportage as it was on 4 a good price.
We had sister 2013 Santa Fe diesel auto, lots of issues from new, not starting, multiple fuel pump replacements, then when 5 yr warranty expired, aircon went on 45C day and soon after transmission went with 100k km on clock!, Replaced with 2.4l petrol Outlander 7 seater, not 1 issue in 4 years
I'm looking to buy a a 2016 Sorento with about a little over 50,000 miles on it. I was hesitant on purchasing one of these but i think i'll take the risk. Hopefully i don't regret it.
I was choosing between the 2007 Q7 and Sorento 2012 a year ago after selling Octavia A5, luckily I chose KIA (all cars having diesel engines). Range rovers are hell so my next step would be Touareg 2011+ with air suspension, I think this is the ultimate SUV for bad roads, please review it, boss. Cheers!
This is really cool, been hoping you'd launch a video of Mk2 Sorento soon as it's one of the candidates as my next SUV. I'm just terribly put off by the fact that I can't get used one anywhere near 5 grand in my country, for about GBP9.000 I could get one with over 150.000 miles on the clock but the 5k ones are already write-offs. =(
6:30 Talking about the reversing cameras failing and saying "I'd rather have one like this that has a reversing sensor". It looks like it has a camera to me. I take it that it's failed then and been disabled rather than fixed!! 😁
I haven’t owned a Kia, but my dad has had loads of the sportage Models and the last two generations of the sorento In terms of reliability they have been excellent but they are only a few years old and low miles, but the reason he gets them is they seem to hold money and the dealer chops them in for a new one and he only loses a few grand on ex demo cars everytime he changes which isn’t bad to stay in a new car. He currently has a 2022 sorento top spec and loves it
Thank you, fancy motor and fun review! Like the all black edition/trim, adds a bit of luxury and class for this example. Hope to see an Optima SW soon on the channel. Cool content as always, so an extra cheers and of course a like added👍

Kia really upped their game about 10 to 12 years ago and are still punching above their weight today.
Because they're Hyundai clones.

As with Skoda, both Kia and Hyundai were always moving forward and you knew it was only a matter of time before they became the car to have. Like Datsun in the 70's, welcome to the future. Bring on affordable, reliable motoring for the masses.
Just learned today that a 5 sec channel branded intro hurts viewers retention by 5%+... but I still love yours :)
I didn’t know they
@@HighPeakAutos I really think yours is one of very few exceptions
LOVE the cutaway shot exposing the engine. Little things like that really elevate the vids. Any thoughts on Skodas current lineup? Considering a 2018+ Karoc
The front headlights are reminiscent of the Sabb 93 aeros. Another great video.
I've been looking at CRV, RAV4 and Sorento but not sure which one to choose, so I'm really looking forward to the SUV video 👍🏼
Go crv or sorento. Probably go for crv
Sorrento just based on looks alone!
I think Sorento is slightly bigger than CRV & RAV4 and obviously the looks of the Sorento are much better!
Really liked the review as it’s often a forgotten option 👍👍
Everyone laughed when the Kia Pride hit these shores over 25yrs ago. Now Kia is one of the most reliable and trusted car brands out there.
3:33 pulls up across from the following gen car 👀 nice coincidence
I bought a ix35 sat nav after one of your reviews and haven’t looked back since 😊
You really should use your mirrors!

Kia and Hyundai are less forgiving for oil changes. If you delay an oil change, the pick up sieve on the oil pump in the engine sump gets blocked.
Moms always love big, high automatic SUVs. Mine is the same.
Thanks been waiting for this review for ages thanks
The current model I think looks very smart.
A small Easter egg at 03:34 you can see the MK3 Sorento in the same shot.
Brilliant video as always, Hyundai IX35 next!
Just the video I needed, thanks.
Please can you do a video of top 5 SUVs?
Great video, very good car too. It’s mainstream, but still outside the box. They make very good towing vehicles. We see plenty of them where we keep our horse.
Cheers Matt , such a great video very well produced 👍🏼
Oh, and also, you’re absolutely bang on. I have the widescreen nav virtual cockpit thing in my passat and genuinely only use it because it looks cool. Apple maps is a million times more intuitive.
Has to be the geekiest thing I’ve ever said
Another great review Matt, what are the chances of a review of the Ford Edge Sport??J
Definitely
Great video cheers, always like these and now I do even more.
Can’t think of brand that’s improved as much as kia.
Love the cataract image.
Ye we had a 2012 very nice smooth and safe we now have a 2019 and looking into the new one
Yep I love my sportage no issues with it starts 1st Time whatever the weather only niggles heavy on petrol as its 1.6tgdi and awd apart from that it's great. I was getting the sorrento but opted 4 the sportage as it was on 4 a good price.
Hi Matt another great video hope you are well best wishes ian
man the facelifts makes the pre-facelifts rear-end look ancient!
Always knew it. If you don’t need to buy badge these are brilliant work horses
Great review as always.
We had sister 2013 Santa Fe diesel auto, lots of issues from new, not starting, multiple fuel pump replacements, then when 5 yr warranty expired, aircon went on 45C day and soon after transmission went with 100k km on clock!, Replaced with 2.4l petrol Outlander 7 seater, not 1 issue in 4 years
Ha! I'll bet if you replaced it with ANOTHER Santa Fe - you wouldn't have had any problems with that either.......!!
6:28 when he says the rear cameras get blurry, and it’s like cataract 😂 and he blurred the video!
A very useful video, thanks 🙏
Hey Matt, could you do a review about Kia Niro? That would be great.
Great one as always👍👍
I'm looking to buy a a 2016 Sorento with about a little over 50,000 miles on it. I was hesitant on purchasing one of these but i think i'll take the risk. Hopefully i don't regret it.
They’re great cars
Love your work 👍
I was choosing between the 2007 Q7 and Sorento 2012 a year ago after selling Octavia A5, luckily I chose KIA (all cars having diesel engines). Range rovers are hell so my next step would be Touareg 2011+ with air suspension, I think this is the ultimate SUV for bad roads, please review it, boss. Cheers!
go with standard suspension, air is expensive to repair on such an old car
This is really cool, been hoping you'd launch a video of Mk2 Sorento soon as it's one of the candidates as my next SUV. I'm just terribly put off by the fact that I can't get used one anywhere near 5 grand in my country, for about GBP9.000 I could get one with over 150.000 miles on the clock but the 5k ones are already write-offs. =(
Much better than the boss eye brum .
Great video as ever Matt, but nothing on fuel consumption. Looks like the Kia Sorrento's a thirsty animal?!
Thanks for the info!
6:30 Talking about the reversing cameras failing and saying "I'd rather have one like this that has a reversing sensor". It looks like it has a camera to me. I take it that it's failed then and been disabled rather than fixed!! 😁
If there's a Kia Sorento review then there should be a review of Hyundai Santa Fe DM generation of the same year!
I haven’t owned a Kia, but my dad has had loads of the sportage Models and the last two generations of the sorento
In terms of reliability they have been excellent but they are only a few years old and low miles, but the reason he gets them is they seem to hold money and the dealer chops them in for a new one and he only loses a few grand on ex demo cars everytime he changes which isn’t bad to stay in a new car.
Thanks! They’re good cars
I have the sister car the Hyundai Santa Fe 2010 model with 72000 on it, we call it the "wood wagon" shove anything in the thing and like you say it just does everyday well
Would you be able to do a should you buy a Renault kadjar video please
