    LOVE how his brain works! 'Continuum' will always remain relevant, no matter which year/decade you're listening in. ♥

      @@jordandangelo180 I'm so glad I'm not alone on this. I dont know what happened to this John. It seemed that during this time, he was really maturing. However, it seems like after Continuum was incredibly successful and it was time to make a new album, he started to change. He focused less on music and more on trivial/distracting things (sex, money, drugs, media) that were going to inevitably hurt him. Furthermore, I feel like you can see this from how the messages of his songs changed (Continuum vs Battle Studies and beyond) and I don't get it. Why would he stop making soul inspired music? This music touches the soul and he already explained how Pop doesnt really do that. Why wouldn't he just keep make blues music? Continuum, Try, and Where the Light is all fall in the best albums category because of the music. They had the most beautiful messages and best soulful music. This music is what he is the most known for. Why would he change? I think he had to have gone through some bad things....

    • @jordandangelo180
      @jordandangelo180 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@itsamberelise853 Well, money changes people. Fame changes people. Add them together and you have a potential recipe for disaster. Enough money and fame can take the most innocent and wholesome, grounded in reality person and turn them into somebody they swore they would or could never become. I don’t think John is a bad guy at all but he’s definitely changed and all the fame and ego, there is no going back to this John here. I think that’s the reason why we haven’t heard anything like Room For Squares, Battle Studies or Continuum in a long time. I think for the first few albums, John was hyper focused on songwriting and making a name for himself as an artist and as a well respected guitarist as well. He achieved all of that in spades. So, where do you go from there? There aren’t many options. You can continue to go up and write in sprites hit songs, which seems to be very hard for even the best of artists or bands to do after a decade or so, or you can become a celebrity and use your celebrity to stay relevant by playing concerts of your hit songs or making appearances with other groups ex. Dead & Company....all great stuff but not the same as the hungry artist who is out there trying to prove himself. Certain people never lose that fire but they are rare. John still loves guitar gear and Dumble amps which is cool to me but I doubt the early John Mayer we are referring to was more interested in Dumbles and making $6,000.00 amp deals with PRS than he was with writing great songs, all on which same the same Martin acoustic guitar and Fender Strat or 2. I’m not saying he’s more into gear than music, I’m just saying he’s being trendy as opposed to settings trends because we all know if anyone was a trend setter in the songwriting and guitar world in the 2000’s, it was John Mayer. He made the TS-10 popular, made envelope filter tones popular, made guitar playing bigger than its been in decades. Everyone knows or tries to play Gravity or Slow Dancing.

    Hendrix 1968, SRV 1988, John Mayer 2008. All the other guys JM mentions in this are just epic blues players, they weren't true leading edge pioneers of electric guitar. Get what I'm sayin'? Particularly Jimi & now JM. This man is truly gifted. How his gift has developed over the last 5 yr is just a pleasure to experience. Are you experienced? I am!

    Crikey he was as good looking then as he is talented. No wonder all the ladies wanted him. Brings back a lot of nostalgia for me watching this. I followed him from the beginning and he changed the way I play guitar and what I listened to. I remember actually thinking that if I kept playing, I could be a reasonable facsimile of him and SRV etc. 24 years later and guess what. Nope, I still don’t have it 😂

    9:28 I also enjoy things that glow blue. If I get a new pedal for my pedalboard and the light on the pedal is blue, it makes me like the pedal even more. My most recent of those pedals is the MXR carbon copy. If you share this interest, and play guitar. consider getting one. Both the sound and the color of the light of that pedal are just mezmerizing.

    @TRENT32 His new album "Born and Raised" was SUPPOSED to be released Oct./Nov. of this year... however, John developed a Granuloma on his vocal cords, so he had to put a halt on recording til he heals... we'll have to wait and see when that is going to be...

    I couldn't agree more with Chann3191. Surround yourself with legends in the music industry (like Steve and Pino) and it's easy to sound great using riffs borrowed from some of the masters. Mr. Mayer has done his homework and he's shared his talent in recreating his interpretation of their life's work. IMHO it takes more than listening to and copying styles, before saying how "I" did this. Sock-foot bedroom practicing when you're 18 doesn't entitle a person to talk about "Buddy, BB and Eric"
