Sea Fishing For Sanity: Time For A Wellbeing Boost!

- When it comes to Newport Fishing marks, this place is one of my favourites on the Bristol Channel. The Cod fishing at this spot was superb when I was younger cod it's where I made my Christmas Special last year. The Severn Estuary has a special place in my heart and I very much need it in my life. Over the years at this spot, I've caught Thornback Ray, Bass, Codling, Whiting, Dover Sole, big Conger Eels, Flounder and more! I was busy the week I made this one, hence why I kept local, I felt as if I needed a mental health boost...it worked!!

I live in Italy, and watch your videos as soon as they come out. I grew up in Merthyr Tydifl for four years, and your South Wales accent really has a reassuring soothing effect on me. Before I moved out here most of my sea fishing was done around Barmouth and Anglesey. I miss Wales something terrible at times, and you give me some kind of avenue back to it. Also, as a man who blanked so many times in the worst of weather, I can recognise that spirit of "who cares, I had a nice day anyway". The sea and the sky and the wind fill your being, and that's no way a blank...that's a full house. Thanks for your down-to-earth videos, they are very special.

I live in Pontypool, not too far away. Ah yes, I can appreciate why you miss Wales at times, some lovely areas in fairness and the coastline is quite special. As a 70 year old cyclist I'm loving the videos . In my younger days it was all about speed and distance on the bike and I struggled in my head as I got older with not being able to keep up or catch riders then 17 years ago we brought our caravan down to Dolgellau and discovered the Mawddach Trail what a gem it's change my outlook on cycling at the end of the day it's just riding a bike , and I do a bit of lure fishing on the point at Fairebourne thank you for videos they are a breath of fresh air 👍

Hi gareth we all have off days , great video that sun low on the water ...stunning ,music similar to relaxation tapes I had from MIND cdf very mood raising ,any way my weekend I thought was going to be a wash out ,but you popped up sparked me right up ,I go fishing with you gar ,thats good enough for me ,both my knees creek ,frozen shoulder but I get the buzz on my old marks ty keep well ,mark cdf x

Great watch , those rocks scary I'm over 70 and fell in Dartmouth cut myself badly and inches from going in the water , never told the family how ill l felt not wanting to spoil the holiday, please be careful,

Keep doing what you're doing Gareth, I love how you put your emotions into the video and talk about the past, we must never forget our parents and should always think and talk about them, however upsetting it can be on times, and yes life can be cruel sometimes , but it does help to talk! There is something mystical and magical about being near water whether i am out for a walk locally or on holiday by the sea, i feel that from your videos.The peace and serenity from the sound of the water, that's what makes yours so compelling to watch. Don't get me wrong i enjoy a couple of other regular fishing channels but while they have their own qualities non of them have what yours has. Thanks for taking the trouble and making the effort to produce what you do!!

@riversidewithme yes ,I ve only suffered with it later in life. It came with the cptsd. Love the gower, last time I fished down that way ,was on wormshead, lots of dogs and a few mackerel. Hope you stay well,take care mate.

Ah yes, I remember the Daiwa Moonrakers, they were the rods to have back in the day, my Dad's mate had one. Another great video Gareth. Such a breath of fresh air seeing the amazing scenery shots and listening to the relaxing music. Irrelevant of whether you catch or not is not important. ALL your videos are good because they are true to life of how fishing really is nowadays. If you fish 3 or 4 times a week like some You Tubers, you will show larger catches. Not many of us have that luxury. Don't change anything, you are doing great. Oh and I reckon you take that conger with you each time because you always seem to catch him 😂
Haha thanks Andy, you've finally realised that I have a pet conger, I take him everywhere with me, hence why he always saves the blank! He's sleeping at the moment, just been fed! I've been struggling with a slipped disc since June so feeling my age also just about getting around now loving the vids fished the area many times takes me back can't wait to get back out when I'm back on my feet keep up the good work bud 👍

I have only been fishing for a year and I love it so much there is nothing better then going to the beach and having a chill and a good session it’s the only thing that keeps me going you see as I’m in a care home there isn’t a lot I have a big passion for but fishing is the best thing I look forward too 😊

Gotta love the marks around newport i fish predominately between Magor ledges and hazels farm goldcliffe, with the odd foray over the river to my birth place at st brides i to have fished these marks for over 40yrs and picking up on your last vid the decline in fish stocks, accents from all parts of the uk to which was one of the the top cod marks redwick, i rememder an open match in october at redwick 30lb of fish did,nt get you in top 5 places 1st place was ivor smith with 46lb of fish thornback conger and cod, sadly them days long gone your vids gaz really capture the essence of newport brings back wonderful memories of friends and family truely wonderful people some sadly passed on......keep at it pal wonderful person you are.....👍🏴

As you say, the fishing back in the day was awesome, some of the best Cod fishing in the UK, I also miss the big Whiting that we used to get. Sad really, I can't see things improving anytime soon. But we'll keep trying and you never know, we may see a positive change at some point. Just nice places to be aren't they and any fish which turn up are a bonus! Well Gareth yet another trip down memory lane for me .I have spent many happy hours fishing from the concert pad in front of me old pump house.you walked past to get to where you were in this video..I have to admit that without your videos at my age all those memories would be lost to me.
The biggest flounder I ever caught was just to the left of the black pipe it covered the seat onu tackle box. The reason I fished in front of the pump house was because I could cast of it
And lean my rods on the handrails.i found that it I tucked in beneath the top of the wall I was out of the wind.and rain...

You chose ragworm as your no1 bait, the bait I’ve got a few of my pb’s on is surprisingly frozen cooked jumbo king prawns 🦐 lol, was getting 3 packs for a tenner at farm foods 😂
Had my biggest pollock, thornback, spotted ray, cuckoo wrasse,ballan wrasse, smooth hound, spurdog, bull Huss, cod, bass and tub gurnard all to the prawns,

Subscribed buddy. Loved the wee quote at start of video, passion clearly shows. Have fished angus coast all my life. Turned 50 recently and also got into spearfishing. It's nice being able to select what fish I wanna take not to mention all the lobster and crabs you can want.
Recommend giving it a try, will ramp that passion up a level ✌
