My First Ever SALMON CATCH on a FLY ROD from a Kayak on the Duwamish River in Seattle

  • This video was so much fun to shoot! I almost exclusively fish in the Puget Sound with relatively heavy sea-grade tackle. I even have a tutorial(ish) video on how I limited out on pink salmon in the Puget Sound trolling a white hoochie (coming soon). It was awesome to get well outside of my comfort zone to hit a river with a fly rod!
My dad HAND MADE this fly rod for me over two years ago and I always wanted to catch a salmon on it. The rod is unbelievably well made. It weighs next to nothing and practically casts itself. Huge thank you to my dad for making the rod! I never would have bought such a nice outfit for myself.
This was my first ever salmon catch on a fly rod and the first fish catch of any species on this rod. My reaction to the catch is genuine disbelief. I was at it for over 5 hours and starting to lose hope. Watch as I slowly improve my casting form and presentation, and eventually succeed in catching a salmon--all while taking in the mix of industry and nature on the beautiful Duwamish River.

Nice catch on the fly rod! I've caught several on the rod this and prior years and would highly recommend just stripping back a lot faster and at a varied pace. I have a couple videos on my channel at Dash Point and have done pretty well this season

I have caught 2 hatchery and a wild on the fly this season. Pretty awesome. I have a heavy sink line the fly end of the line has 7" sink per second for the first 30' then 5" for the remaining 70', I'll jig and troll with it just with a fly. If fish are blowing up the surface I'll cast my intermediate line at them and strip it in after letting it sink for a second. Good luck! way more fun than fighting fish using heavy traditional gear.@@narwhaladventures

There are quite a few actually! The northern most points of 8th, 10th, and I think 12th streets have public shore access. There is a spot somewhere in the Boeing parking lot that allows the public to access shore as well. From shore, I’d use a 2-2.5” buzz bomb or 3/8 oz all pink jig. Tight lines!
