You know your buddy loves that Road Glide, rocking that fresh Harley Davidson Sweat shirt! I like that idea of the POV interview without having to be there. Great video man!
david, i think you'll continue to love your rgs. i'm 53 and always owned metrics, but in 2019 i traded in my cb1000r on a used 17 heritage classic. loved that bike, but right at the start of winter in 2020 i stopped into my dealer for a part for that heritage and turned around and saw a 20 rgs limited edition paint job sitting on the floor. billiard blue with the old school harley 1 racing logo and it was instant woody. left my classic there and bought that rgs. last year i took a very long solo road trip from iowa out to idaho and everywhere in between back roads and i loved every freaking moment on that bike. like absolutely LOVED this machine! I've done a number of mods myself and I'm with you on the rear suspension. horrible. that's gonna go this year. thanks for mentioning what u bought. I'll check into them. i don't get a prolonged riding season where i live so I'm only at around 7,000 miles which is just getting broken in, but thus far zero major issues. pulled my bars last wknd and installing some la choppers hammerhead this wknd along with upgraded riser bushings and riser clamp. but i don't plan to do any internal engine upgrades. i always rode FAST and wild, but at my age the last thing i need is a 900 pound bike with more engine than it already has, which is more than enough for long road trips. wish u future enjoyment out of your rgs! that m8 is an awesome engine and the bike is extremely nimble for its size.
I live little North of Woodlands. Need to stop by that Harley dealership at some point. Wife, our girlfriend and myself all just started riding. I meant to comment on one of your other videos where you brought up the Colombanus Motorsports out in Orange. That's where we got two of our three bikes. But we got Honda Rebels. I went with a 2022 Rebel 1100 and wife got a 2021 Rebel 500 SE. Our gf got a barely touched used 2021 Rebel 500. We had a good experience with that dealer. We went with our bank for financing though. Been thinking about making TH-cam videos on our experience as new riders.
Do it! Start a channel and film your experiences as a couple who rides! That’d be awesome! Thanks for the info about the Colombanus dealership. I’ve heard good things about them. Thanks for watching and good luck man! If you need anything on the YT front just hit me up!
Great work David and then Smitty for the edit. I do think the old HD adages of leaking oil etc etc is because we always here the extreme cases or the internet cases, when maybe 1 in 100 has the issue. The only time my Dyna has leaked oil is because of user error…. Me. Lol. And Smitty you keep getting rich off the haters
You guys are both great . I have an 02 , RK and the rear shocks do suck , I have been putting off purchasing new ones due to the astronomical prices I have seen with the 2-3 main brands that seems to be most popular, I will look up that site you mentioned. I also have a Honda 919 think that’s a great bike to . Thumbs up , new subscriber… let the haters hate , beautiful.
Thank you for the kind words and for the sub. Suspension Technologies makes a great set of shocks at an affordable price. If you try them I’m pretty sure you’ll like them. Thank you very much for watching!
Big Smitty, I love your collab with David. This was a great video. If you do this again, I think it will be good thing. Thank you. I always enjoy your content, and this is another angle that I’ve enjoyed.
Thank you very much! I can’t take credit. David reached out to me and asked if I’d do it. I of course said hell yeah! Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
I’ve been told that the Honda Gold Wing is like a Civic. Just no doors. Your experience of the Honda Gold Wing is accurate. Thanks for making this video.
@@BigSmittyRiding Lmao- they sure ain't for everyone. Pretty big learning curve when you first get on one of these monsters. I've only owned 1500s. Regardless I love them, and they just eat miles and ride like cadillacs.
What he described as “driving a sedan” is about riding position. Goldwing is upright and Indian and Harley are cruisers with your feet well in front. With the Goldwing, if you don’t want the full tour package, you must get the DCT to get reverse. I have two bikes currently, BMW K1600 and a Harley Road Glide Ultra. I have been asked several times which I prefer, I like them both because they are so very different. When I am on my K1600 with friends on Harleys I must slow down in the curves for them.
I agree, the Goldwing riding position is upright compared to other cruisers and baggers I’ve owned. I’m a huge fan of my Wing and the seating position. It ain’t for everyone. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
I just rode a Harley Ultra Limited and a CVO Road Glide Limited. I thought both rode good. I have never rode a Golwing. I have sat on older ones. They were way too top heavy for me. The cylinders are where I want my feet. I do like Honda though. I ride a 2003 VTX1800R.
Man that VTX1800 is a beast! I love those bikes! Every person has a personal preference and I’m good with whatever people decide to ride as long as they are happy! Thanks for watching!
I've ridden for over 40 years and had many bikes and never cared for Harley much although I love their looks and sound. Over a year ago I researched getting either a new Harley Street Glide or a Goldwing, watching this video reassured that I made the right decision by getting my 2019 Goldwing. I would not have been happy if I felt the need to make changes to an expensive new bike to improve the suspension, reliability and performance. I also agree with you Smitty regarding the Goldwing not feeling like a sedan, it's amazing how well this bike handles for it size and I wish I hadn't gotten the DCT. I've put over 10k miles on this bike and still don't care for the automatic transmission. Also a friend of mine who has a Street Glide which he loves has had issues that I would consider unacceptable, his latest is an oil leak which will be very hard and costly to repair. Thanks for the video!
Thank you very much for the comment! I love my Goldwing and I don’t see me getting rid of it anytime soon. I didn’t get the DCT simply because I didn’t trust it. I just like being in control of the clutch and when I shift. Good luck on your bike and thank you very much for watching!
I had a 2020 Harley Ultra Limited and traded it for a 2021 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT. Loved my Ultra but always wanted a Goldwing. I like both bikes, just prefer the Goldwing more. All comes down to what you like
Great vid! Love my RGS. It sucks the inconsistencies in dealers. The Indian dealer I spoke with in Michigan was awesome. The first HD dealer I checked out was terrible. The one I bought from was great. Sounds like he got what was right for him and that's cool. Ride what you like. 🤘🏻
I've owned a few dozen bikes-Honda, BMW, HD, etc. and every one needed a suspension upgrade IMHO. Why do you think firms like Progressive Suspension and Legend exist? I've also never owned a bike I didn't want to change in some way but suspension mods often top the list.
Agreed! I’m happy with the suspension on my Wing but Traxxion makes a badass front and rear suspension for them… not gonna say I haven’t considered it. Thanks for watching!
I own a 2021 RGS and was wondering if I should do something like this gentleman did with the pressure. If I leave it is it going to blow the engine and leave me stranded? Possibly shorten the engine life or would it be more of a performance thing? Thanks.
So I don’t know if it will cause the engine to blow up. I doubt that. Blockhead did a video about the crank case breather kit. It had much better info than what was in my video. I think it’s just a precautionary mod that David did to avoid any potential issues. There’s people way more versed on the subject than I am and I don’t wanna give you bad advice. Check out Blockhead and search TH-cam for videos about it. Hope that will help you and thanks for watching.
I enjoy every thing on two or three wheels, but I have never owned a Harley. About 20yrs ago, I decided to get a sportster so I went to my local dealer in Norfolk UK. I made the mistake of going after work in paint covered overalls on my work outfit an ancient BSA with box sidecar. They obviously did not consider me a potential Harley owner and just took the mickey for 10 mins, so I left, their loss as I had the cash price in my pocket. Over the years I have known many makes of bikes that have had had their reputations sullied by crap dealers.
It’s amazing how bad customer service can absolutely ruin a brand! I’ve known plenty of people with a similar story to yours. Crazy how one dealer will treat you poorly and another will bend over backwards to get your business. Thanks for watching!
You our to funny I Enjoy watching your videos jingle videos don't let them haters get you let them you let him pay you you're a good management God God-bless you and your family hope to meet up with you someday
Thank you very much sir! I appreciate the kind words and you watching! I try to be funny and in a good mood. These folks just make me laugh! Thanks again!
Hi Smitty! Thanks for the video. What was the close calls that you made reference to with the DCTs? I think I would prefer it myself. I'll probably never let my Valkyrie go, but if I did it would be for a GW DCT.
So I’ve seen situations where people need to slow down or make a maneuver and don’t have the clutch to grab to help stop the forward momentum. I’ve also seen them jump when you’re in sport mode and hit the throttle hard. They will take off if you’re not careful. Saw that with my own two eyes. Not saying it’s s bad system just saying that it takes getting used to and can be an issue. I wouldn’t have one but that’s my personal preference. Thanks for watching!
@@ROTV-DanLockhart there are people who love it and swear by it. So obviously it works but I’m not sold right n it. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again for watching!
Hay smitty people like what they like. All brands are good with some bad ones here and there. I agree with you about the manual vs the automatic transmission.
I love any Brand and any Motorcycle that I can ride. I am 74yrs old and I have owned at least one Motorcycle of practically all the Brands that are out there, and none of them ever gave me any trouble. I presently own an Indian scout 60 because I couldn't handle the weight of my Harley and my new bike is lower and lighter and I can still ride!!!!!
Good video and David did a good job . I like my 2007 electric glide standard no radio and I never had a radio on any of my motorcycles and Smitty knows I just spent a boat load of money having custom work done on my harley and it looks great just ask Smitty. The days of AMF garbage Harleys was long ago when I was in my teens and that's why the government bailed out harley davidson otherwise they would be no more ! Etc. Thanks again Smitty for another great video !
Thank you very much for the kind words my friend! David really did a good job and he got a really good bike too! Your bike is amazing looking! Harley has come a long way and they are the number 1 brand out there. Thanks for watching my friend!
That ending!! 🤣🤣🤣 Ok. Your friend definitely brought up some good points, and I hope it works out for him. He's had a bit of bike trouble so hopefully his luck changes. Good video Smitty!!
The Sound Look And Feel Of A Harley... Road Glide, Road King, Street Glide Is Amazing... The Sound Look Feel And Character Of A Hog Is What Draws Millions To The Brand... The Honda Goldwing Is Superb Engineering.... It's So Superb That It Lacks Personality And Character... Sort Of Dull, With A Bar-Stool Like Seating Position... The Road Glide Has A More Aggressive Stance, I'm More Comfortable On The Road Glide.
I agree, HD has done a great job of making their bikes look, feel and sound a certain way that has become iconic. Between that, their dealership network, parts/accessories and apparel, they have the market cornered. The Wing lacks sound and soul. I completely admit that. But for me it runs way smoother, much more powerful and handles miles better than any HD touring bike stock with zero mods. I will eventually own another HD but I’ll keep the Wing. It’s just too smooth in my opinion. Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
always entertaining. All the points are valid, and decisions always come down to what individual ranking system all the points have. I don't think any 2 people will agree on all the same points, all the time. Hating on Harleys is a sport though - especially when you pit your harley owner friends against each other by making statements like - the person with the most Tshirts get the first beer.
That’s hilarious! Yeah everyone is different and everyone has a bike they prefer. David found his and I definitely have mine. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
From HD hater to HD promoter with all the swag, ,,,but seriously he should be enjoying thar RG for a long time , I have a 2003 Dyna with 89,285 miles on it with limited repairs done. a 2014 street glide with 20k 12 of which I put on last year. ride and maintain not , ride and repair repeat.
Harley has come a long way! They are doing a great job with reliability and customer service. If you take care of them they’ll last a good long time. You are proof of that! Thanks for watching!
They need to come with better suspension from the factory! Suspension Technologies makes a great set of affordable shocks at a great price! Thanks for watching!
All the bikes I have owned had their plus's and minus's. It boils down to what is best for you. Everything else is the sound of the troll posse riding through...
I’m with you. Every bike I’ve owned has been good to me even if it had a few issues here and there. You just gotta be happy and decide what’s best for you. Thanks for watching.
I was killing time in a HD dealership recently and noticed Harley has finally embraced liquid cooling. 40 years later than the Japanese. Better late than never. Air cooling always made a Harley a non option to me. I doubt I'll be dropping 20k on a motorcycle anytime soon, but I did see some Harleys I liked and I've never liked anything Harley except the Vrod untill now.
Another good one. I guess he’s going to have to eat crow🤣 I’m with you I think he would have liked the GW if it had a clutch, they by far are the Cadillac’s. I ride a Harley and love mine, also loved my Kawasaki Vulcan nomad was a great bike but it was just to top heavy didn’t seem like it was balanced well no where near like my 2015 ultra limited. Thanks for the video 👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank you very much for the feedback and for watching! I loved my 11 Street Glide but I just had too many motor issues with it. The Wing is flawless and I really enjoy it! Thanks again!
The problem with the GW is also the beauty of the GW-- DCT; no clutch. I will never own a GW because it does not have a clutch; I will also never own a bike that does not have a 'wet' clutch... so some BMW are out too. David's ideas about Harley reliability are bullshit, of course. Some of the early HD motorcycles would shake themselves apart, and leak a lot of oil, etc. But, those days are well into the past. The more recent dual cam 88b , the Milwaukee 8 , and of course the new Revolution Max are top notch engineering! I own two HD motorcycles (including the new Sportster S) and never looking back. I'm really liking the new Pan American too. We'll see. marcus
Not all Goldwings are DCT. Mine has a clutch and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Just food for thought. I’m with you, Harley has come a long way and the reliability is there now. Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
@@alripley5335 , good to know. I've never owned one, but the ONLY ones that I have even seen (tried) were DCT. It would seem that GW riders seek that feature out, more than not. Even J. Paladino's most recent video about the worst bikes to bring to his advanced class stated that the GW was the worst; why? because the DCT interferes with the class dynamics and how to use the friction zone effectively. Jerry never mentioned that there are GW with clutch! (who knew?) marcus
@@markh.harris9271 I can't imagine a bike without a clutch. Goldwings are great bikes for traveling/touring and I love mine. Your comments about Harley are pretty spot on. They are very dependable and have been for decades. I've got a Road King with 66k miles on it without a hiccup. Ride safe.
Okay I heard enough! I’m trading my DCT car cycle in on a RoadSlow 😂 😂. Just kidding Man sure am glad that brother found joy and his way back to loving his ride. That’s what’s it’s all about. Great video.
Yup was the same as him road Honda my whole riding career pretty much other brands here and there swore I'd never own a Harley for same reasons. Well in 2020 I said Fk It and bought my first Harley, jumped head first on to a brand new Street Glide 😂. So far so good great bike but yes suspension is trash!!
I had a 2011 Street Glide and it was a great bike. Had motor issues so I sold it but that batwing fairing just looks good to me. That stock suspension is trash. First thing to go! Thanks for watching!
3740 Subscribers! Onward, buddy! I'm now at 36! Woohoo! 😆 Dave's comments echo what I've heard from Salty about Indian dealerships. If they can't even get the SALE down, imagine what service is going to be like? This guy was begging them to take his money and they wouldn't. Buh bye. I don't understand why people put up with all that. My take is this. You buy a Gold Wing, you EXPECT it to ride like a sedan, and if that surprises you, you shouldn't have bought it in the first place. So, you took a PERFECT bike right off the floor that had zero issues and rode comfortably, and decided it was too comfortable and traded it in on a bike whose suspension and seat sucked and immediately needed replacement at extra cost and effort, then had to add an aftermarket device to minimize excess compression in the crankcase (which I've never heard of) to fix an issue that shouldn't be an issue. And the GW will outrun the Harley and is more dependable. Makes perfect sense to me... We all buy bikes and complain about the seats and suspension, and then go out and spend a few thousand on Corbin seats and aftermarket suspension. Honda makes one that by his own words rode like a dream and needed nothing, and that is his complaint? That it's TOO comfortable? Isn't that the GOAL? Did he NEED something to complain about? Well, to each his own. I won't criticize anybody for their choice of biikes. Rick told me last week he is planning to buy a Heritage Softail. I asked him why in the WORLD he'd want to do that. I think I pissed him off, LOL! But he says he's getting it at half dealer trade-in value. And keeping his Valk of course. I ran over a screw in my car two days ago and it went right through the sidewall, so had to replace the tire. $200. DAMMIT! Gotta replace the batteries in my FOBO units, and every time I walk past my bike, I'm getting alarms that the pressure is a couple pounds low, so that's on the to do list for this week. Fill tires, replace batteries. Must... Make... Phone... Stop... Beeping!!! Tongue click and fingers pointed back atcha! 🕶👍👍😎🏍🏍🏍👉🍺👌🥃😜🍹 P.S. For all the Smitty haters: th-cam.com/video/sggCmimvJbI/w-d-xo.html
Thanks as always buddy for watching and for the support. To each his own is how I live. Be happy and let others be happy! I love my Wing and I’m glad I bought it. It’s a different ride but man it’s just so smooth and reliable! Take it easy and thanks as always for the support!
Sounds like the usual complaints of every HD owner. Seat. Shocks. Gone. Drip can for the air filter. Glad your buddy was able to make it work out! It also sounds like your Indian dealership down there is the one that Salty deals with. As for the parts on Indians, the waiting time is horrendous! I've been waiting months for a sissy bar and crash bars. Almost 5 months now. 😭
Indian needs to step up their parts game and their service, period! They make some amazing bikes but they need help in literally every other area. I hope you get your parts soon and thanks for watching!
@David Clark I hear their motors put out high HP numbers. Only negative I’m hearing is them not standing behind their warranty. Several folks on Instagram and TH-cam have been talking about unresolved issues with them. Remains to be seen what will come of it all but I’d like to see what happens before I recommend them to people. Just my 2 cents.
I bought A brand new Harley Electra glide I’ve always owned metric bikes but I thought l would try the Harley it spent more time in the shop broke down than it ever did on the road I need a bike that’s reliable I do about 20 to 25,000 miles a year and I can’t spend my time broke down along the road I have several Friends that have Harleys and they’re constantly breaking down never had a problem with a metric bike
Some folks just have bad luck. I know I did with my Harleys. Haven’t had any issues with my Goldwing or the other metric bikes I’ve owned. Thanks for watching!
That’s just weird. There’s no reason for a new Challenger to blow through 3 clutches. Obviously some sort of manufacturing defect from the factory. Did your buddy call Indian HQ and raise hell before trading it? I’m at 20k, ride plenty hard, and I’ve had zero issues. 🤷♂️
Idk if he called corporate or not. I know he was pissed and said he was done with it after the 3rd clutch. Some bikes just have issues from the factory. That’s an unfortunate yet real thing. I know plenty of Challenger owners that have has zero issues. Thanks for watching!
I don't get it! That's all we hear is the Harley suspension is junk. I have an 2006 Electra Glide with 112,000 Mi on it with the Harley air shocks on the rear. And I don't notice it being rough. All I can think of it's a good thing you guys was not born in 1930 and had to ride those hardtails across the roads they had back then.😆😆😆 I am a retired truck driver having driven for 43 years maybe that's why I don't notice something being rough. At the end of that video you sounded like you was being almost like what you tell us not to be to one another.😆😆. I know you were probably just giving back what you had received. Good content keep it up.
I’ve ridden hard tail bikes and you’re right they are way worse. But when you pay over $20k for a bike you expect the rear suspension to be better than that crap they put on there. If you ride with a decent set of rear shocks you’ll see how bad they are. I was being an asshole… I admit it! 😂 Just letting the trolls know they can keep it up because I like making money off them! Thanks for watching and for the feedback! Stay safe out there!
@@BigSmittyRiding Hopefully you can buy the highway pegs you wanted for a while. I have them and they are the coolest and the quality is there. Not cheap but the best brother. Ride safe

Nah, not me. The reliability has come a long way and oil leaks are a thing of the past. I’d buy another Harley if I didn’t love my Wing. Thanks for watching.
Owned several motorcycles in my life. None a Harley and never would own one. Overpriced .....the Harley lifestyle is not appealing to me. If I was to want a touring bike I would go with the Honda Goldwing and if I wanted a cruiser I would go with Indian.

Thank you for the kind words and for the sub. Suspension Technologies makes a great set of shocks at an affordable price. If you try them I’m pretty sure you’ll like them. Thank you very much for watching!

Thanks Steve. It was easy for me, David did all the work.
Big Smitty, I love your collab with David. This was a great video. If you do this again, I think it will be good thing. Thank you. I always enjoy your content, and this is another angle that I’ve enjoyed.

@@alripley5335 now why’d you have to do that! 😂
@@BigSmittyRiding Lmao- they sure ain't for everyone. Pretty big learning curve when you first get on one of these monsters. I've only owned 1500s. Regardless I love them, and they just eat miles and ride like cadillacs.
@@alripley5335 absolutely true! Thanks for the feedback and for all the comments. Greatly appreciated!

Good luck on your bike and thank you very much for watching!
great video Smitty!
Thank you very much.
I had a 2020 Harley Ultra Limited and traded it for a 2021 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT. Loved my Ultra but always wanted a Goldwing. I like both bikes, just prefer the Goldwing more. All comes down to what you like
Absolutely true. It all depends on your preference and what makes you happy! Thank you very much for the comment and for watching!
Great vid! Love my RGS. It sucks the inconsistencies in dealers. The Indian dealer I spoke with in Michigan was awesome. The first HD dealer I checked out was terrible. The one I bought from was great. Sounds like he got what was right for him and that's cool. Ride what you like. 🤘🏻
There’s a lot of inconsistencies with the Indian and Harley Dealerships in the Houston area. He’s happy so I’m happy for him. Thanks for watching!

😂😂😂 it’s not! Let’s keep it a secret!

Thanks cuz! Was a different video for sure.
@@BigSmittyRiding Thanks Smitty. Good to know! I can see that it would take some getting used to.

We'll see.

Not all Goldwings are DCT. Mine has a clutch and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Just food for thought.

Theres only 1 Gwing model that's clutch less- DCT. The others have clutches and always will
@@alripley5335 , good to know.
(who knew?)

Dave's comments echo what I've heard from Salty about Indian dealerships.
Must... Make... Phone... Stop... Beeping!!!

I’ve ridden hard tail bikes and you’re right they are way worse. But when you pay over $20k for a bike you expect the rear suspension to be better than that crap they put on there. If you ride with a decent set of rear shocks you’ll see how bad they are.
