- Senior Tory Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg has lost his North East Somerset seat in the general election.
The former leader of the House of Commons lost to Labour's candidate by around 5,000 votes. He was defending a majority of 14,729.
The seat, which has been subject to boundary changes this year and renamed to North East Somerset and Hanham, was won by Labour's Dan Norris with 20,739 votes, with Rees-Mogg coming second securing 15,420 votes and Reform UK candidate Paul MacDonnell taking third place with 7,424 votes.
It comes as Sir Keir Starmer will be the UK’s next prime minister after Rishi Sunak admitted defeat in the face of a Labour landslide.
The Prime Minister said voters had delivered a “sobering verdict” on his party after 14 years in power.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said people around the country had declared they were “ready for change”.

At last a Brexit benefit.
Did he saw it coming😊
Not sure I can express the joy I’m experiencing watching his smug, sad face realise his loss, whilst stood next to a man dressed as a plate of baked beans.
I can 🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@skf4skf47OK, ya got me. I’m still grinning ear to ear. 😂🎉
😂😂
Not to kill the illusion but the candidates get told the results before they go on stage. If you don't believe me, look it up.
Armando Ianucci had to stop making the thick of it, because he couldn't compete with reality
Too be fair he took the defeat in good grace unlike Liz Truss who did not even shake hands with the winner and just left the stage straight away.
she did shake hands, just no concession speech
Bye Bye Rees Smug
Best news of the night.
plus truss! extra bonus
Plus Galloway losing.
I dislike the man passionately, I think his politics are insane, I think he's a liar and a disaster capitalist. However, gracious defeat in a democracy, whether through gritted teeth or not, is important, I actually think his leaving speech was courteous, fair and somewhat genuine (somewhat)
- unlike the horrendous Liz Truss, who stomped off the stage without any congratulation speech and disappeared into the night.
Nanny ! NANNY, NANNY NANNY NANNY 😂😂
The disparity in American and British politics is so stark here
@@jordanpearce1947 Well, in some cases. Hillary Clinton managed to concede to Trump after a few hours taken to recover. When Trump lost he sent a mob of thugs to murder the House Speaker, and his own Vice-President.
completely agree, truss acted like a sore loser whilst rees mogg handled his loss with grace as much as i loathe him
never thought you could crack one out to an election result
Brilliant!
That's my first non-schadenfreude laugh in 24hrs!
Fair play for trying
Back in the Time Machine you go mate
He can always go for a lie down on a Commons bench. Oh forgot, he can't do that anymore!
sadly i think hes going to go lie down on a lords bench instead...urgh.
He’s got a lifetime pass to the parliamentary estate so he could still technically do that just not when parliament is sitting
What killed it for Mogg was ,he spent to much time working on a news channel, instead of looking after the people of North East Devon.
Haha Devon.
Thanking 'Mr Rees Mogg' for his 'genuine care of his constituency' is the first lie of the new MP, although I guess it was done out of manners.
*Somerset.
The top hat killed it when he was 10
Couldn't happen to a more deserving man
He got Portillo’d!!!!!
The silence after his ‘final thought’ was deafening.
it was a "hang on - is that a threat?" moment.
Silence? there was quite generous applause.
@@KennethPoole-y7z Yes, but after 2 - 3 sec.
There, there, there. Nanny will kiss it better.
Lounge about on your back in the Commons isn't what you're elected for Jacob, you do it, you pay the price.
Yet 15,000+ still voted for him, absolutely astonishing how stupid people can be!
@@jazzyb8886 Never underestimate the low IQ of the UK electorate
As if he cares. Moved his head office to Dublin the second Brexit happened.
Ive been waiting years for this.. and I'm not british and I live in the Netherlands 😂😂😂😂 this is like Christmas😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Vrolijk Kerstfeest
Dank je wel 😂😂
I'm canadian and loving the fact our cousins across the water have finally gotten rid of these ghouls
😂😂
Bedankt 😂
This is absolutely fantastic news
No more sleeping on the job , theres plenty of benches in the park
Back to the 19th century you go and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Why do you say "19th century". It's because people had morals back then, unlike the degeneracy of the progressive UK today.
The 19th century was Britain's greatest era. 🇬🇧
@@humanbeing4841 The greatest at pillaging the rest of the world. An era that deserves to be in the dustbin of history, like Rees-Smug
@@I.amthatrealJuan The British Empire gave more to the world than it took. There's a reason why most former British colonies have pleasant relations with the UK and are stable democracies.
@@humanbeing4841They have to have good relationships with the great powers otherwise they'll find themselves in a deeper ditch.
The haunted pencil 😂😂
At least he had the balls to show up, unlike Galloway.
Uhhh... it was Grandpa Potts who sung that in Chitty Bang Bang, not Caractacus.
Rees-Smug had his smirk wiped off his smarmy face
You think he gives a fuck? He's sitting pretty on his millions he embezzled over the last god knows how many years.
Yep I zoomed in to his face just to see that. What a complete scumbag.
did you watch his speech? He was incredibly humble in defeat
Moggys nice, don’t be nasty! It’s time for a change but he means well
@@AsteriasASMR 😏
The man has finally been clogged.
Mogg can move on...to the 18th century, without the poor people of Somerset!
Mogg very humble in defeat, people giving him stick in the comments but you have to respect that
He's just acting. His whole life is an act. A pose.
JRM deserved to lose
Thumbs up - but I don`t know what he`s lost. He`s not going to suffer one way or the other. I`ll put it down to others` gain rather than his loss, and be happy for them.
@@dogwithwigwamz.7320 Reform took 7000 votes from him.
Had Reform not stood, he would have won.
@@KennethPoole-y7z That's still 7000 idiots who think that Reform are anything but the very think he represents.
@@SirHargreeves So?
Glad he's gone, he was a total waste of space.
Fair play to Dan Norris for being so gracious towards Jacob Rees Mogg & likewise for Mr Mogg regarding Mr Norris. Two gentlemen..💚
He was very gracious in defeat.
He has been playing the role of 'English gentleman' since his childhood. He knows how to feign graciousness.
Should have switched to Reform Moggy. Sorry he lost his seat but he should have listened to Nigel.
Maybe if we had preferential voting in the UK, Mogg may have retained his seat.
@@geoffk8996 People preferred to vote Labour.
Don't be fooled by Rees-Mogg's courtesy and good manners. It's all a front.
Where's Nanny.
Jacob then went home to nanny and cried on her knee.
Oh no he had nanny's marmalade sandwich 😂😂😂
Tory boy
Hallelujah, that is a good start...
Very satisfying
He lives in his own brain.....so far detached from reality. Controlled by his ego.
Nope...Not from them ashes they wont 👋.
Grace in defeat.
That's cheered me up so much 😅
The embodiment of entitled. Gone, gone, gone. Pure joy.
He will now spend his days counting his money
My mother died alone because of those Tory bastards.
The big news of the day!
The best 😊
Seeing the smug grin disappear is priceless. 😂
Bye bye Mr Mogg
They both kept it very respectful. Kudos to them!
Job Centre on Friday ?
Woo woo! Lord Snooty has left the building.😂😂
No more sleeping in the commons prostrated over the benches ‘byyyeeeeeeeeeeee
Hoist by his own petard.
The only bad news is smog will be on the telly more talking s***
No body but idiots watch GBN News
Britain has lost the plot!
I like Jacob and wish him well.
I strongly dislike him, but he took it with grace. Very glad we haven't become as partisan as the US yet.
Thank goodness the Smog has gone.
Tories: We congratulate Labour on this victory and for continuing with our Uniparty arrangement against the ordinary British people!!
Someone gets it
Best news so far, the benefit thief is in the bin
I am happy he lost the seat
So what's going to happen to the ERG now?
Among all parties, the Monster Raving Loony party seems to be the most promising.
Rees-Fogg: always good for my early morning bowel movement.
Karma
What joy! He ignored his constituents after the brexit vote ( they voted to remain ). Ghastly man....
They might have voted remain but the country voted to leave, maybe the cry babies should accept democracy and how it is supposed to work.
Ah the Rees-Mogg is dispatched...
This one is so delicious cheerios sir the victorian are waiting to welcome you into their past
Democracy in action. USA pay attention
Absolutely class 😂😂
Stayed up all night watching these pompous w⚓️s lose their seats one by one
a real gent
He's a fake gent. As his father was.
Thank you whoever is upstairs. This and the losses of Truss, Hands, Shapps, Fabricant, Mourdant, etc will give me a fabulous weekend. If England could win on Saturday that would be lovely.
We got the England Win too!
Though I can't stand this arrogant joke of a politician, he gave a gracious speech after losing.
Very dignified from both
You watch, Rees-Mogg will try to join the Labour party in the next few weeks and promise to wax Kier Starmers carrot whenever he wants!!
Thank god he has Gone. 😂
Could not help himself he was brought up like it and really has no idea of real life a part of me feels sorry for him but the problem is that he has no pity for anyone but does not admit it to himself
Beautiful.
Looked like he was going to cry when the new MP gave his speech
Thank God!!!
YES,YES,YES!!!!!!!! 🥳🎉🎇🎆🎇
Awww poor ole Moggy 🖕
Hurrah
He would have won easy if he joined reform
It's nice that the monster raving looney party candidate was given the chance to speak.
Say what you like about Lord Snooty (and I have. In the past) he does always behave with taste and decency; how he ever allied himself with the opposite of that trait in Boris Wiffwaff DePiffle Johnson always mystified me; possibly just the “Old Etonian” thing.
There seemed to be more than just a “for appearances” vibe when the two ex-MPs spoke of each other.
Dang, there goes my plan to take over the planet.
Jacob out is beyond hysterical!
Do not permit the door to hit you upon your way Out The Door!!!!
Liz Truss has already offered him a job
He can go and spend more time with his family.
He actually thought he was winning that. Priceless lol.
No, Rees-Mogg knew he was probably going to lose - he was talking about it on TV at about 11pm.
@@morsmagne Just hedging his position. It's what he does for a living (before stashing any profits abroad).
@@momeara7482 Mogg looked really pissed off though.
@@morsmagne That's his normal face.
@@momeara7482 no - he was saying stuff like “the exit poll was terrible”, “it’s been bad for a couple of years”, “we abandoned our core voter base”, “I look cheerful but that may not be due to the likely vote count”…

Bye bye bad man bye bye!
Such rubbish that Rees-Mogg did a god job.
Satisfying
In an extraordinarily generous gesture, it's understood the new Labour government is to give Jacob Rees-Mogg, Liz Truss and Penny Mordaunt among others, the chance to be parachuted straight back into a 'safe' seat, as early as 24th July - from approx.15,000ft over Rwanda.
The ECHR is not expected to intervene
