    one of the benefits of fell remedy is that its 2 separate heals so first can remove poison and second actually heal you and even at level 1 that allows another summon cast. Not a huge thing but worth noting.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes good point! I do think a poison could be a big setback for the Boneshaper as it can really hinder your ability to summon. This character will certainly need to prioritise some early heal items to really smooth those issues out.

      Also noticed putrid cloud bottom doesn't designate "Melee" attack or give a range. Logically it would be a small cloud around the summons or mercenary but the way its worded archers would also be affected.

    Here are few things i found in Gloomhaven forums , its about Figures and Monster meaning :
    Monsters - Monsters are figures that are enemies to the characters.
    Figures- All monsters and characters - anything that takes a turn in a round - are considered figures.

    • @MandatoryQuest

      Seems very odd to me though that it says monsters rather than enemies right? The only reason I guess for this is it cover all standard, elites and boss enemies but still just feels a bit odd in its wording. I didn’t catch it at all when filming but when I was editing i caught it as a bit a weird.

      I haven’t played the tabletop version and only recently got into the digital version, and I’m wondering what people say to use “Lost” as a verb. Is it just “Lose?” That seems a little strange, but it doesn’t not make sense. “Burn” and “Burned” make more sense to me, but I have a history with other card games that use that language, and “Lose/Lost” feels like a less effective way to get that idea across.

    The only thing against unholy prowess is that up until level 9 you and your party should have already found a way to work around the damage you suffer from summons or other card abilities. At that point an initiative 10 card with two absolutely nutty and repeatable attacks sounds more fun to me. I really like that choice these level 9 cards are giving you though, do you wanna "free" your character or do you wanna deal devastating attacks 3 or 4 times a scenario? At this point in a characters "career" I'm doing devastating fun attacks.
    PS that level 8 summon changed my mind completely about this character. Just good stupid fun, a lot of time to invest to get there though.

    Grave Digging gives you a chance to use a bottom action for a summon, at the cost of the 1 extra damage. So that with a top summon you can get two out on the board in a single turn.

    • @MandatoryQuest

      Yes I think it’s good for swarming the board, but managing your health is going to make every point of damage really important. It’s going to be interesting where the balance will ultimately end up, although I expect party composition and the enemies you face will really affect it.

    I think the Summon Stitched Atrocity (Lvl 5 Top) does not work well with Putrid Cloud (Lvl 3 Top), because Putrid Cloud gives Attack 2 and not Attack +2. You woudn't even get the wound, because Putrid Cloud defines the Attack and not the Summon you blow up. So the Stitched Atrocity as a lost card is way too precious to blow up...

    1:13:22 - Are we positive that Putrid Cloud (level 3) will work with the wound effect of the Stitched Atrocity (level 5)? Putrid Cloud doesn’t count as an attack by a summon, does it? Other cards that make your summons attack read something like, “Give one of your summons Attack + X.” However, Putrid Cloud reads, “Designate one of your summons AND PERFORM Attack 2,” which almost seems to me like the attack is being performed by the spell that our merc cast on their summon after designating a summon to cast it on and to deal additional effects through (the AOE damage and poison) and to (destroying it), instead of the attack being performed by the summon itself. Although I don’t know if there’s some summon mechanic related to this that I don’t know about; I’m pretty new to the Haven games and I’ve only played through the first two GH scenarios so far, so I could easily be wrong on this. But the wording of Putrid Cloud by itself makes me think that the wound wouldn’t occur if Putrid Cloud is used on the Stitched Atrocity.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think your right actually having re-read the card. It is the Boneshaper doing the attack not the summon, so it would not get any of the added effects of the summons attack. Not quite as cool unfortunately.

  • @hammerspace8866
    @hammerspace8866 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you are underestimating the top of wailing from beyond. There is a nice synergy between giving the enemy curses and giving them muddle. Attacking and cursing 3 enemies with this card shouldn't be that hard. Just use a bottom action to move a skeleton next to 2 or 3 enemies and then shoot them with wailing from beyond. This card should effectively add 2 or 3 curses with each play. Combined with the other curse cards you should be able to add a good amount of curses to the enemy deck. It would go really well when you have the bottom of critical failure out.
    Also the muddle would make ranged enemies not walk away from your skeletons. So your skeletons can hit them if they draw that curse with you have critical failure out.
    The class will have a nice amount of repeatable curses by now. The bottom of damned horde, the top of enternal torment. bottom of bone dagger.

    Recently reminded myself that Frosthaven (and by extension, Gloomhaven) are things that exist, so looking up information on it as I wish I had friends to play it with. But there is one thing that confused me as I watched this class review: Why do you mention the initiative number before the bottom action? I think that the initiative number would be best reviewed after talking about BOTH of the things that a card could do.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just generally go top of card to bottom, no other reason just a more genuine reaction. If the initiative is relevant or perhaps counter to the ability I usually highlight it. Generally all characters want a mix of late and early, although probably leaning a bit more towards early to get the jump on the enemy. Sometimes the initiative and ability need to go hand in hand which ill note if needed, but sometimes an early initiative can just be used exactly as that and just played as a move 2. Its hard to strictly evaluate initiative on a single card because of course you could always use the other card instead too. Once I get my hands on the game and do full guides the two card pairings will be more apparent.

    I don't understand... When it says 'grant' does that mean that a summon for instance gets +1 to its attack value forever? Even after death when it gets resummoned after a long or short rest?

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No its an action that makes the summon perform its base attack with its base value +1

  • @sandys6553
    @sandys6553 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm very confused by Bone Horde. Summons move according to monster AI. You can grant move abilities, but they don't say you control the action. It would only be by chance that a Shambling Skeleton's movement would intersect with the Bone Horde. They would move to an unoccupied hex to attack an enemy, which is not the Bone Horde. I just don't see how this is supposed to work.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You now control all grant move actions in the new FH rules. This was to allow them to drop the "with you controlling the actions" text on many many cards in FH.

  • @d.u.5933
    @d.u.5933 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm afraid your idea, that the word "monster" on the card Soul Claim (Lvl 7) could also be your own summon, doesn't work. In the rulebook it says in the chapter "Allies, Enemies, and Self":
    "Characters are allies to other characters, monsters are allies to other monsters, and characters and monsters are enemies to each other." If your summon were a monster, it would be your enemy and that's not the case. But I agree that the terminology is not good.

    Sadly, I don't think Stitched Abomination works with Putrid Cloud the way you (and, let's be honest, I) want it to. Apart from killing the abom (which is a loss summon and thus you can't get it back), the way I read Putrid Cloud is YOU make the attacks, NOT the designated summon. If that's the correct reading, you wouldn't get the wound in that case.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah maybe would be interesting to learn if it’s you or the summon making the attack. Although I’m not sure if the trade off is really worth it quite honestly if it does apply the wound or not. Probably a bit of an edge case thing rather than a real strategy to play towards.

    I think you lost your mind about the Bone horde at level 8 and didn't consider Wailing from Beyond very well. Yes, you can only add one curse to the deck for each enemy adjacent to one of your summons. But you also add one curse for EACH ENEMY adjacent to at least one of your summons. If you're playing with four players, and you've got three summons out and they can form a line, or even just spread out enough to get lots of adjacency, then play Wailing from beyond, it'll be possible to add four, six, maybe more curses to the deck. If you've already put out Critical Failure for the bottom, suddenly your summons start getting lots of extra attacks. And Wailing from Beyond is not a burn card, so with just a little bit of help with granted movement, you can do it several times for four curses each time.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No doubt it could be very strong but it’s also very magical Christmas land in my opinion. Perhaps when paired with the Bannerspear you’ll have enough granted movement to maximise it better, but I think on average it’s going to end up being a curse 3/4 which although not bad is not enough for me to take it over the fun that bone horde gives you. If your up against a swarming style enemy like vermilings then your odds go up of course, but what against an average scenario of mixed melee and ranged enemies all spaced out on larger tiles. It just has too much variance on its own for me to say we can reliably make it curse 5/6 although I’m sure if you build around it you can get decent results. It’s also a very slow strategy that I think even with Critical Failure just runs the risk of being just a little too cute. Will be fun to try out though.

    • @hammerspace8866
      @hammerspace8866 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wailing from beyond only adds 1 curse per target. It's a target 3 attack that conditionally adds 1 curse per target. But getting 2 or 3 curses with each use should be easy to do.

    I think the bottom of Unholy Prowess is a bit... obsolete at level 9. By that time you'll probably have enough health to spam Skeletons (and remember you have repeatable heal depending on number of summons you control). So this is the only choice I disagree here

Hard to say for sure until we get to play with it, but I think there’s some good potential here. That's great way better than a tank getting pounded on. I think Ur missing the point to use them as a meat shield, have you not played any arpgs . Skeles are meat shields. Great review as always but I think maybe inform ppl to use them as meatshields and not be upset if they die early is a far better way to look at them.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is you have many cards that require them to be alive at the start of your turn to use them. If you have poor initiative this can be hard as you can’t always predict enemies. Those cards are useless if your skeletons are already dead and you don’t have the life pool early game to infinitely resummon them. Yes they can be great little meat shields but if that’s all they do I think the character will be very one dimensional and ultimately just stall the game out without progressing towards winning. That strat also weakens at 4P with more enemies on the board than skeletons. I think you want to use them tactically to take hits especially before you long rest but it shouldn’t be the basis of your strategy, or at least it won’t be mine.
