Why those rd28t have always that roughly smokey cold start?
Mine does to, and everything is in perfect condition

so it turns out that my glow plug relay melted itsself in this video as the TD42 glow plugs drawy more current than the factory rd28 ones. after replacing the relay with a seperate one the car will start after two or three cranks when cold. while the engine is cold they tend to run a bit poorly. i believe there may have been an intake air heater fitted to some model RD28s to assis with cold starts however ive had no problems since the relay change.

Hey mate, no doubt Rd28eti valve covers are a PITA. I find bolting the vac pump on to the valve cover before reinstalling to the engine is best. After you place the valve cover assembly on you can then rotate the engine by hand until it fully squats down on the head (cam lobe will be at its lowest position). There should be no resistance from the vac pump spring at all. Tighten bolts using the correct sequence. They don’t require much torque. Keep up the great content. Cheers 👍

Cheers for the tip, i think im going to keep my vac pump up there il just do some rework to my other valve cover to stiffen it up hopefully
