    Aside from being the brightest star visible from earth, it is also the 4th brightest natural object in our night sky, after the moon, Venus, and Jupiter.

      It's blue, because of the Doppler Effect,,it was red when moving away from us,,but it's really white,,so this is where you get the red,white and blue from, literally everywhere.Alsi the red and blue in politics parties,and Masonic lodges.

    I love looking at the night sky. My only regret is I've always lived in or near a city so most of the sky is washed out. Still as a child if I could see the stars I never felt alone.
    Thank you for grouping all of the important stellar information in each video AND not just mentioning things like "Class" but giving a quick explanation. It is frustrating watching videos where the speaker uses technical jargon forgetting he is speaking to the general public not third year undergraduates.
    Kudos to you. I've been adrift in TH-cam looking for well made interesting technical videos. Who knew I'd find ones speaking to my heart. And here I was about to let go of my 130mm reflector. There it sits but feet from me aimed up. Where's the duster and lens cleaner?

      I'm glad these videos help. I am not an astronomer by trade (I have a biology degree), so I'm learning right along with everyone on this channel. Even thought I don't study the sky as a professional astronomer, I can still appreciate all the work they do, which helps us all gain a better understanding of what's out there. I hope you get the chance observe away from city lights...seeing a brilliant night sky is truly one of nature's best gifts.

    Sirius has another significance. It IS the beginning of our western New Year. On the night of the New Year,, Dec31/Jan 1 At precisely midnight,, the dropping of the ball in Times Square, Sirius is exactly south on the meridian. It IS what was determined to be the start of the New Year.

    At 1:50, is that size comparison between the two stars right? Looks to me like you have Sirius B way too big in comparison to Sirius A. Wikipedia has Sirius at 1.7x the diameter of the Sun, while Sirius B is 0.008x the Sun's diameter. The Hubble image isn't representative of the actual diameters of the two objects, but it's a closer match to the Wikipedia numbers.

  • @DeereX748
    @DeereX748 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've managed to split Sirius A and B with my 8" SCT; it depends on Sirius B's position relative to A and how good the seeing is. I got lucky on both.

    thank you - that is great - I love to observe the sky day or night. And about 6 years ago whien I moved to our present home first in 2015 I got to know Venus. Later I moved to ground flat and I am able to see Orion and more. Since 2018 Iam having less time to sleep because I am looking out of the window. Unfortunately a lot of light of the street and houses. but the worst thing . every big event - clouds on the sky or like tonight it is raining . but I wont complain, I love to learn about our stars - and planets too. See you - next stop how to find the planets in the night sky, good night, regards Crissy

    I have a difficult job seeing Sirius B due to the glare from the A star. It needs excellent seeing conditions and transparency. The drawing you showed, showed very different size comparisons compared to the photo from Hubble.

    Sirius A is expected to have a rather short lifespan. One might wonder when to expect it to go nova. One might also guess that Sirius B has already gone nova. If it were to accumulate a total of 1.4 times the mass of our sun, it will go supernova. Good chance for a double banger sometime soon.

    I haven't seen Sirius yet at the back end of 2023 but obviously saw it earlier in the year.About a week ago I was out camping and caught Orion and Procyon but dawn struck just before Sirius got over the horizon.I always find the Robert, think that was his first name, Temple, definitely his surname,book the Sirius Mystery interesting .He claimed that the Dogon tribe of Mali had a knowledge of Sirius B....but when examined it's all pretty much nonsense!

    Nice video, i love this channel! The size comparison between Sirius A and B at 2:00 is way off! If Sirius B is 0.0084 times the radius of the Sun, it is around 0.005 times the radius of Sirius A. It should be represented as a small dot next to the much larger Sirius A, much like in that Hubble image.
