The thunderclap being a constant reminder for Poseidon that he cannot be doing anymore than talk to Sally because he knows the consequences. He knows Zeus is watching him and he knows what he'll do if he does just like what he's done in the past.

I see people saying this, but wouldn’t Zeus have blamed him for stealing the bolt before Poseidon claimed him? I think Poseidon is staying away so that Zeus doesn’t know he has a son, yet.
      Edit:
The gods only exist where their names are called/where their realm of influence resides. So Zeus could be in multiple areas of air and space at once, but not know what is happening in the realm of Poseidon. A lot of the gods know stuff through the series because word spreads fast from Camp Half Blood.

@@mrs.manrique7411 my first thought when that thunderclap hit was that, then I thought about this. I wonder how Zeus could have known any more than how he could've known about Maria di Angelo. And Hades probably had his kids before the pact. But maybe it still made sense because this was before the theft. Hades already sent Alecto to find Percy before he was even claimed and Zeus also blamed him for the bolt. So maybe they already knew and Sally just somehow managed to hide him and keep him away for that much long until that happened.

A small detail I love; earlier in the show, Luke says you have to burn something important as an offering for the gods if you want them to listen. (I don’t know how he exactly says it but it’s something like that). But here, Sally offers a half empty milkshake that wasn’t even hers and Poseidon shows up almost immediately.
Also I think we like Poseidon from that one scene because it’s very evident he cares about Sally and Percy. He’s there as soon as she asks, he lets her vent her frustrations that she can’t vent to anyone else, he doesn’t tell her what to do and only asks her what she wants. He also clearly wants to talk to Percy but knows he can’t because of the rules the gods placed. Like, obviously Poseidon isn’t a good dad, but it feels like he wants to be, especially because Percy is his only demigod kid. Like this guy broke his oath with his brothers just to be with Sally, it makes sense why he’d still care for her and Percy.

With only the info you already have on the episodes lemme explain what Percy figured out to help ya, no spoilers - Percy dreamed of the lightning thief being scolded by Kronos, the voldemort dude, for having been caught and loosing it all even though kronos gave them all the tools to succeed. And warning them not to do so again. Also, when Anabeth mentions to Luke what they figured out, she explains Groover managed to take out of Ares that he KNEW who the lightning thief was, but was covering for them for some reason.
A.K.A. - Ares actually found the lightning thief, and captured them and the things they stole (Hades' helm and the Bolt) and kept for himself. When he noticed Percy and his quest, he gave Percy an enchanted backpack, which would be the location where he could teleport the bolt into when the time came. That time being, when Percy got close to Tartarus (the big pit, where kronos is dead and in pieces). All because he wanted the war to happen between the three eldest ones.
Hades never knew or had anything to do with it, Olympus and everyone just thought he did because of the usual myths and stereotype. Kronos, if you dont recall, is the titan king, father of zeus and the olympians, and sire of Time. Also maybe why he is on dunes, like those old hourglasses. He ate all the olyimpians when they were born, because of a profecy that they'd dethrone him one day. Zeus was spared, and then crafter a weapon to slice his father to pieces and save his siblings, hence becoming the king of gods. Ergo why Kronos has the biggest grudge of them all.
Also, on a different side-note, the thunder when Posseidon considers talking to percy is Zeus, warning him he is watching, hence Posseidon stopping the moment it echoes.

nope, Percy saw kronos talking to the thief in the same office he was expelled from school at in the first episode. As Kronos is talking in dreams to the thief and Percy, each likely saw the location as a place they knew.@@jamfronk6387
In the same logic, if you look into it, the person Kronos was is the school principal who expelled him as well. Kronos was just pupeteering the figure from Percy's memory

If you'd like, I can clear up some of your confusion with this episodes with only information you already know :)
    1. Annabeth escaped the Asphodel tree by using her pearl. it transported her away from the roots that were growing around her. Fun fact: this was a show original concept. Asphodel was simply portrayed as a large crowd of lost souls in the book, and the kids stayed together in the end. It's an interesting addition for several reasons.
    2. What we know about the lightning thief so far, and how it was stolen:
-Kronos, the person who's been taunting Percy in his dreams, is the one who wanted the bolt stolen.
-In one of Percy's more recent dreams, Kronos was talking to the thief and chided them for loosing it.
-Ares was sent out by Zeus to find the bolt. He found Percy and his friends and sent Percabeth on what should've been a death quest for one of them, and then afterwards gave them the backpack that Percy would later find the bolt in.
-The bolt seems to have not been in the backpack the whole time. Otherwise Percy would've probably found it before now. However, it appeared in the bag just before he and Grover were nearly pulled into Tartarus.
-Hades appears to be clueless to the bolt's theft. He, like most of the rest of the gods, assumes Percy stole it. He has deduced that if Percy stole the bolt, he must've also stolen his Helm of Darkness, which went missing just before the bolt was stolen on the winter solstice. He believes that Percy stole his Helm, which allows the wearer to become invisible, and used it to steal the bolt. He took Sally hostage with the intention of trading her life for his Helm.
-On the winter solstice, Camp Half-Blood took a field trip to Olympus. It's believed that one of the demigods who was there one day is responsible for the Helm and bolt's disappearance. It's also clear that whoever is responsible is serving Kronos.
-Eons ago, Kronos was the most revered deity and ate his kids to ensure his eternal rule. Zeus managed to rescue his siblings from his stomach and chop him into pieces anyway, and then threw those pieces into Tartarus.
-Kronos seems to want a war between the gods, and it's presumed that he also has some sort of plan to rise from Tartarus, but we have no idea how, and neither to the characters.
-Ares was waiting for the kids on the beach with a Big Heckin Sword (TM) and probably intends to silence them before they can return to Olympus and tell the other gods what they know.
Love your reaction, can't wait for next week, you're gonna love it!!!

About Procrustes: in the ancient times, he was a man who pretended to be a gentle host, but he actually killed his guests (Ancient Greeks had a whole thing about hospitality. Mistreating a guest was as bad a crime as mistreating family). Procrustes had a set of beds, some of which were too small, others too large. He would place weary travelers on his beds and, if they were too large for his small beds, he would cut off the extremities that projected out of the bed. If, however, they were too small for the large beds, he would stretch them out till their bones broke. He ended up being killed by the hero Theseus.
Also, as a sidenote: when it was announced that James Bobin was going to be involved in the making of this show, I actually thought that he was going to cast Sacha Baron Cohen as Procrustes, because they have collaborated in the past, and Procrustes is exactly the type of character Baron Cohen always plays. Turns out it's not him, it's an actor called Julian Richings, who has done a LOT of stuff.

Toby Stephens who plays Poseidon is such an incredible charismatic actor(fun fact he is also a son of Maggie Smith who played professor McGonagall in Harry Potter movies). He was in a James Bond movie, Black Sails, Jane Eyre(2006 one I believe) and many other works. What's interesting about the Underwold and its design is that the creators wanted to show kinda nothingness of it. Like its some foggy place where you can see no end and its kinda genius to reflect it that way cuz I assume it will drive domeone crazy. And Hades' domain is a reflection of the Olympus only upside down.

I love this show because it actually gives a proper view of Hades as a character. Pretty much all of pop culture displays Hades as Satan, but he's actually the least petty and most reasonable of the Greek gods. Hercules has to kidnap Cerberus? Hades: "Fine, just don't hurt my dog." Orpheus comes down to retrieve his wife? Hades: "Fine, but you can't look back at her on the way up. Otherwise she stays in the Underworld." He doesn't care for Olympian politics or power struggles because all mortals wind up in his realm at the end. He does still have a knack for inventive punishments, and he does have his pride, but ultimately, he's... just kind of a cool dude.

Kronos (chronology, Father Time, Saturn, Grim Reaper) is in pieces to represent the division of time in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, moons(months), seasons, years. He’s at the bottom of a sand pit like sand in a time turner. The solstice has already passed (in the show) to represent that Kronos has already won, at least in some small way. Kronos eats his children like time eats away at our lives. The gods have successfully tamed time because they are immortal, but even then they cannot stop it from flowing continually.

Okay spoiler free breakdown. Firstly, Yes, you are supposed to be confused. BUT here is a spoiler free breakdown. Zeus gets his master bolt stolen and assumes that Poseidon had someone steal it from him because gods cant steal from each other they generally have demigods do all that work by giving them quests. So Zeus assumes that poseidon stole his bolt he isnt sure how his brother stole it until he learns that poseidon had broken the pact they had made and had a son which is Percy. Once zeus learns about percy he instantly assumes that poseidon had his son steal the bolt for him. poseidon on the other hand who had been keeping his distance from percy because he wasnt even supposed to be born in the first place, claims percy and has him go on the quest to retrieve the bolt from the person everyone assumes stole it. i.e HADES, so that he can avoid a war with his brother. Now we know that gods cant steal from each other directly so if hades stole the bolt then that would mean he had someone do it for him. percy and the gang dont know who but they assume that the person had already stolen and given it to hades so all they had to do was go to the underworld get it from him and in the process percy wants to get his mom back. On their way to the underworld, they meet ares who grover thinks is covering for the lightning thief, his daughter clarisse. they assume clarisse stole the bolt and gave it to hades so that poseidon and zeus would have a war and since her father likes wars he would be pleased with her. makes sense right? they get to the underworld and they almost get dragged down to tartarus the big hole in the desert place percy has been dreaming about throughout the series, the bolt appears in their bag and they realise that Hades didnt steal the bolt, in fact he had something stolen from him and since zeus had said that percy stole his bolt, hades assumed that percy had stolen his helm of darkness and used it to turn invisible so he could steal the bolt. So to get his stuff back he takes percy's mom expecting to lure percy to the underworld so he could trade his mom for his helm. Percy realises that the person talking to him in his dreams was kronos all this time and not hades. so was ares the actual villain? did clarisse just steal the bolt for her dad so he could have a war? how does kronos fit into all this? like is said, yes, you are suppossed to be confused🤣🤣

In the book, Ares explains that Zeus sent his children out to find the Lightning Thief after the Bolt's theft was discovered. He actually DID catch the guy, but Kronos intervened and convinced Ares that it was better to use the theft to trigger the ultimate war. Ares was the one who put Zeus and Poseidon at each other's throats by convincing Zeus that Poseidon must've been responsible and then he threw in the idea that Hades was involved too. The backpack was actually the Bolt's sheath transformed by Ares. Ares enchanted it so that, similar to Riptide, the Bolt would magically return to its sheath, but only once it was in the Underworld/near Tartarus.
The clues to the real Thief's identity are all already there: someone whom Percy considers a friend as per the prophecy, who is bitter at the gods, would have the skills and the chance to steal both items AND the opportunity to mess with the Winged Shoes, which were originally a gift for Percy, so that they would drag him into Tartarus with the Bolt.

Unfortunately they had to cut some great stuff from the books. The main entrance to the Underworld they go through is a recording studio called DOA Recording Studios, and they have an entire interaction with Charon where Percy tries to pass them off as dead by saying they all drowned in the bathtub (it does not work) and Charon saying that he can add the cost of their ferry ride “to their last cable bill” since people aren’t buried with the drachma for payment anymore. We also see that lesson about how looks can be deceiving as most assume Hades is an envious and villainous god but is actually quite the opposite as he only wants to be free of family drama and his rightful property restored. The moment Percy has to make the choice to leave his mom for now is so much impactful as you remember the last words of the prophecy: “And you shall fail to save what matters in the end.” Can’t wait for the season finale!!!

Just the fact that even Medusa knew Percy was Poseidon’s son at first glance after Poseidon had claimed him is an indicator of what monsters children of the big three can attract, especially if they’re claimed. If Poseidon had been more present in Percy’s life earlier in his childhood, he’d have attracted more danger to his son AND Sally.
Unless Sally had brought Percy to camp to get trained earlier, but that also isn’t right the right decision, and Sally has stated in this episode why. Plus, it will all the more give Percy the impression that his mom is trying to get rid of him by sending him to camp for the rest of his life.
So yeah, Poseidon rather stayed away. It’s what he also picked up from his conversation with Sally not wanting to be separated from Percy just yet. It’s hard for a god to feel powerless.

Toby Stevens (Poseidon) plays the main character, Jessica Parker Kennedy (Medusa) has a leading role, and a lot of other people behind the screen on PJO also worked on it. It is a beautifully written show and all the actors have spoken about how it’s their favourite thing to have worked on. There should be some content warnings for the first 5(?) episodes, but after that the show just gets better with each episode (still with an R rating, but no more sexual violence after episode 5).

My thoughts on Poseidon, taking into account the show version of Medusa: Poseidon and Medusa were lovers, Athena took offense to Medusa choosing Poseidon over her and becoming his lover since Medusa used to be a dedicate to Athena, a virgin goddess, so Athena cursed Medusa and Poseidon couldn't do anything about it and wasn't able to be with Medusa due to the curse possible being able to affect him. Medusa takes this as a betrayal by Athena (rightfully so) and Poseidon (unfairly so), viewing them both as monsters who preyed upon her and then discarded her when it was only Athena who did so, Poseidon being caught up in Athena's vengeance (no longer being able to be with Medusa). This does parallel Poseidon's relationship with Sally and Percy somewhat, as once again, because of another god's (Zeus's) agenda, he can't be with the ones he loves, except in this case he is only holding back temporarily until Percy has grown enough to not get caught up in the pantheon's bs to the same degree as he would as an innocent child. This is why I think Annabeth trusts Poseidon; she sees that Athena is petty after her abandoning them at the Arch, and given Poseidon's rivalry with Athena and previously saving Percy, he seems to not buy into the bs.

I'm so happy you're enjoying the show. I've been hearing a lot of complaints about the show.

fun fact, Poseidon’s actor is the son of Maggie Smith aka Professor McGonagall from the HP movies 🥰 he was also the protagonist in the tv show Black Sails which is really good
