The craziest thing about this show is that the actor who plays Percy looks *exactly* like one of my daughter's school friends, minus having slightly more curly hair. It's uncanny.
Something I loved about the fight with Clarisse is that even though its different then the books the energy is there. Percy's clumsy awkward and untrained swordsmanship, and yet you can tell that he is a natural. I love it

Yeah, someone on Tumblr kind of mentioned that the brakes to black are technically when the chapters end in book... Which makes it significantly more interesting and cool... because yeah it really does just feel like ad break black cuts.
The harsh cuts to black are where a book chapter ends. Which is honestly one of my favorite things. I wish more adaptations had a nod like that to the source
I am mega-fan of the books and fanfiction (augmenting Spanish classes by reading the books in Spanish). What movies, I have never heard of any movies, to my knowledge no movies have ever been produced. Movies were especially not released in 2010 and 2013. The series so far seems pretty good.
Since I am way older than you, I couldn't read the books as a young adult, so I had to read them as an old adult. 😂 Definitely worth the read, imho (though I have to admit, I have always liked reading the Greek myths). There are a few differences, for example Annabeth showing the camp to Percy, so she was more present earlier. And Grover didn't snitch. But the show is pretty close to the books.
Oh, this is what I was looking for! A reaction from someone who hadn't read the series. I got into it around high school as well, but that awful movie was my first introduction, which only made me appreciate the books even more :D Looking forward to watching the entire series with you!

this story was made by rick for his son to get him to enjoy reading more cause he was struggling in school. and when he finished the first one his family begged him to publish cause they believed it was worth telling. and now he's written like 30 plus books for percys universe
Ok so fun fact: Rick Riordan actually wrote these books for his son, who struggled with ADHD and dyslexia in school but really loved Greek myths. So he started telling them to him, and after they ran out, he made up his own! And so Percy Jackson, a hero for nerodevergent kinds came to be!
11:14 I like that you took note that Sally and Gabe are not a good relationship model for Percy. Percy knows it is bad its still not good for him: when you live in it, its very easy to subconsciously see it as normal and then wind up in a similar relationship later since "It wasn't that bad".
You mentioned the Eragon adaptation that does not exist. Christopher Paolini is actually working with Disney on an adaptation similar to Percy Jackson. I think they're waiting to see how Percy Jackson goes before redoing Eragon.
That would make sense. Maybe they think if he knew, he'd let Hades keep the bolt in exchange for his mother, or something? Choose her over the greater good?
@@movienightwithjacquiYeah defintely. Early book Percy is a really angry kid. He despise the gods for neglecting him (justified) and for only claiming demigods when it's convenient for them. So it makes sense that he wouldn't care whether they settle the lightning bolt fiasco or not. He would only care about bringing his mother back.
Watching this from the perspective of someone who has never read the books is really fun. Some of the moments clearly had different impacts for new fans.
I am actually so happy with this adaptation, the series is what I wanted, a actual adaptation to the books, as someone with adhd I had struggled with it, I hated myself so much for it, but when I started reading the Percy Jackson book series it changed me and made me who I am today, this books are so special to me and I am happy to finally have a good adaptations to the books, as funny as the movies can be they still felt too different from what I loved about Percy Jackson, watching this series made me felt like how I felt when I was 12 and read Percy Jackson for the first time
You saying, “What in the Grim Reaper!” is an excellent observation on your part. The original imagery of the Grim Reaper (sands of time draining away toward death/skulls/sun dials and shadows, the decrepit side to aging, not the honorable side) came from this particular villain in the Percy Jackson series.
Its fairly accurate. Theres some stuff that were changed that i didnt really get like the way he killed Dodd’s which seemed more like an accident here (or luck). Also when he was fighting clarisse hes supposed to be pretty bad at fighting until he gets into the water. After that he gets a power boost and he kicks their asses. Im assuming they changed that so for one, percy looks like a capable fighter without training, and so annabeth will look smarter as shes the one who figures out his parent before everyone else. I think in the book she had a strong suspicion. Also percy leaving grover at a bus station, but honestly this is small stuff to be picky about and i dont think the changed were detrimental to the plot at all. I’m looking forward to the next few episodes and seasons. 4th book is my fav so i can’t wait to see what they do with it

"This is a pen" is one of the most iconic moments from the movie tbh, one of the few things fans of the books actually enjoyed. The movie wasn't a bad movie but it was a terrible adaptation of the source material and went it a wildly different direction, the show is much more faithful to the tone of the books. I saw the movie first in cinemas and immediately latched on cause greek mythology and then read the books cause a family friend was like, "the books are so much better, Poseidon wears a Hawaiian shirt" and he was RIGHT, I don't hate the movies as much as the average fan (Logan Lerman and Alexandra Daddario my original bi panic) but I'm glad the series is finally getting a faithful adaptation
The whole thing with Gabe is that he's such a disgusting human being that his disgusting sin was supposed to cover up Percy's demigod sent so that the monsters couldn't find him by the way his last name is uglionno let just say at the end of the story justice
The two Titans Cronos & Rhea birthed the six original Greek Gods. These Gods were Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Hestia, and Demeter. Most of the other gods & goddesses were children to Zeus and another deity. The six most referenced are Athena, Hephaestos, Ares, Artemis, Apollo, and Hermes.
"Oh my god the blue in his shirt makes his -" "I didn’t touch Nancy." "He didn't, but the blue in his shirt makes his eyes pop so much" MY FAVORITE PART SO FAR❤😂

Technically this is actually the third adaptations! There’s an extremely faithful musical adaptation of the lightning thief, it was on broadway for a short time. It’s pretty good
As a big fan of the books I loved these two episodes, camp half-blood is exactly how rick riordan describes it in the book. It's nothing like the Logan lerman adaptation, no hate towards the actors but it was a mess, I think a tv show is a lot better to portray this story and do it justice (and they already are, barely two episodes in). Also, Rick started writing these books because his son has ADHD and dyslexia and he wanted to give him a character he could relate to and faced some of the same struggles which makes it even more amazing. I loved the books when I was younger and later found out I have ADHD myself and having this story helped me so much with not feeling so alien to everyone else. I hope you continue watching and I have to warn you that these incredibly cute kids are about to go through a lot so get ready 🙃
Here’s another idea: she said it because It’s the word for a baby deer and she forgot Grover’s name and deer and goats are similar hooved animals 🤷🏻♀️ (didn’t know fawn was a Roman Satyr, that’s cool to know. I thought fauns had the lower body of deer instead of a goat)
Speaking as someone who wouldn't give Disney the money for an ad-free subscription, the hard cuts like they are going to go to commercial are exactly that 😅

i havent read the book since middle school but this is fairly accurate to what i remember and the actor playing percy is perfect for the role
I remember hearing that the reason they are cutting to black is because some disney subscriptions now have ads, and the formatted it for that. No idea how true that is, but that is what i have heard.
Sounds likely. Disney+ does have cheaper subscriptions with ads.
I think it was also premiering on Hulu? And they do have ads
That would make sense 👍🏻
Your reaction was so fun to watch. I loved how attentive you were and you picked up on so many things! It only gets better from here, have fun:)
As a dyslexic so good to see a show full of such great representation... For curly hair. I have found my people!!
The craziest thing about this show is that the actor who plays Percy looks *exactly* like one of my daughter's school friends, minus having slightly more curly hair. It's uncanny.
Does he like blue? You should warn him of his fate.
Something I loved about the fight with Clarisse is that even though its different then the books the energy is there. Percy's clumsy awkward and untrained swordsmanship, and yet you can tell that he is a natural. I love it
The Logan Lerman adaptation has A LOT of faults. But the "This is a pen" scene is not one of them. It's iconic. Lmao
This was such a fun reaction! I love your insights and I can tell just how much you're really enjoying it. As a book fan, I am loving this show so much! It feels really authentic to the characters and vibes of the book and it feels like an adaptation I can proudly recommend to anyone whether they've read the books or not. I can't wait to see your reactions as the episodes come out!
As a die-hard fan of the books for 15 years, since I was a kid reading them and rereading them, I LOVED watching this lol I think this is the actual perfect react because you know so much yet so little with your cinematography background but not having read the books. Also just so funny. You're catching ALL of their little "hidden" foreshadowing hints 😂 Literally down to a T, I wish I could tell you more 😂 Also hi from LA, I see that SC degree yes ma'am!
We actually have another adaptation, a musical! It's super fun, but I wouldn't recommend to listen to it yet because of the spoilers haha
great react btw, the show is even better than what I imagined it would be ❤ i love seeing the reaction of people havent read the books, so im excited to see your next videos
Hi, I just find your videos and I wanted to say I love them ! You're so full of life and you are so invested in what you watch, it's a breath of fresh air to watch you watching things !
The shadow of the teachers is sadly a reality. In any school case, when the bullied get picked on and stand up, they still get in trouble. Zero tolerance is a good idea, but not everything is in black and white.
16:04 I agree. I love the show but my biggest criticism would be these harsh cuts feel like there were meant to be ad breaks.
Definitely worth the read, imho (though I have to admit, I have always liked reading the Greek myths).
I really like it so far, i have no problem with the casting as long as they feel like the characters. I have some issues with the weird cuts to black and some changes but i think they want to tie things in a new way later so im up to see how that goes
I think the cuts to black are because some Disney plus subscriptions have ad breaks
@@ariesdork5283rlly??
@@ariesdork5283 yees i know... they just feel very heavy sometimes, but watching the whole thing again and again i kinda got used to it... but still hahaa they feel a bit weird sometimes. I doesnt make me hate the show at all tho, they are just a bit jarring thats all
I honestly was so engaged that I didn’t even realize there were the cuts to black. It felt normal to me lol.
this story was made by rick for his son to get him to enjoy reading more cause he was struggling in school. and when he finished the first one his family begged him to publish cause they believed it was worth telling. and now he's written like 30 plus books for percys universe
I’m so excited you’re doing this series!!! I read all of the OG series! And I love and am so excited about this adaptation!
All adaptations should be like this!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. ❤ I'll be tuning in for future reactions. Welcome to the percy jackson universe!
I am so happy he made the books, 12 year old me with lots of internalized ableis had his life changed when I read them
Fun fact Disney is making an eragon series with the author involved aswell
11:14 I like that you took note that Sally and Gabe are not a good relationship model for Percy. Percy knows it is bad its still not good for him: when you live in it, its very easy to subconsciously see it as normal and then wind up in a similar relationship later since "It wasn't that bad".
As someone who knows the books, i am very curious how some series-only wathers will react. Glad to see you enjoying this series.
You mentioned the Eragon adaptation that does not exist. Christopher Paolini is actually working with Disney on an adaptation similar to Percy Jackson. I think they're waiting to see how Percy Jackson goes before redoing Eragon.
The "this is a PEN." line is probably the only thing i liked about the pjo movies
I feel like many of us have already forgotten how visually stunning this whole series is. All the awards for that.
I absolutely love this series!!
I saw episode 1 last night... what a great start to the series... I love it
I am so happy to see this series have a good adaptation
I loved how the Fury looked, that transition from leather jacket to bat wings was awesome
Yes! That was so cool!
It’s very good as an adaptation. There were some changes from the book, but overall most of everything you saw was straight from the book
My guess why they don’t want him to know is because they just want him focus on the bolt and nothing else
One thing Percy Jackson is and always will be is a mama's boy, he is Sally Jackson's son first and foremost
Watching this from the perspective of someone who has never read the books is really fun. Some of the moments clearly had different impacts for new fans.
im pretty sure the fading to black is signifying the end of each book chapter
I am actually so happy with this adaptation, the series is what I wanted, a actual adaptation to the books, as someone with adhd I had struggled with it, I hated myself so much for it, but when I started reading the Percy Jackson book series it changed me and made me who I am today, this books are so special to me and I am happy to finally have a good adaptations to the books, as funny as the movies can be they still felt too different from what I loved about Percy Jackson, watching this series made me felt like how I felt when I was 12 and read Percy Jackson for the first time
There was a musical adaptation that was on broadway for a while thats even more faithful than the movies 😂
Awww man the straight up “please be genuine” when Luke was introduced 😂 😔
I love his character so much I have read the books and have always loved him 😊
You saying, “What in the Grim Reaper!” is an excellent observation on your part.
4th book is my fav so i can’t wait to see what they do with it
11:54 Me: I've Never Seen Sally Jackson Crying.
the cheapest tier of disney+ has ads so there actually are commercial breaks needed
"If you're telling me he loses his mom right now"
No... well... not at THAT moment
19:07 You know, it was really unclear...
Jacqui: "I don't trust anybody, ever"
Me: "Good. Just watch"
34:14 this moment where he does the floss is the funniest part of the entire show yet it is not even is in the books (I wish it was)
aw i really enjoyed watching someone who doesn't have much prior knowledge react to this show! i found you through a clip on twitter and this is the first video i've ever watched of yours and i have to say i like you, jacqui! can't wait to watch more :D
Wait, there are clips of me on Twitter??? 😂 Thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the season! ❤️
There's also a musical adaptation of the first book (The Lightning Thief). You can find the cast album easily.
This series is an incredible adaptation so far
Talking about not trusting anyone because you just watched Gen V is so funny to me because im watching both shows alongside eachother right now!
9:26 he is THE wise old mentor, he is literally the one of the earliest characters of a hero’s journey
Fun fact! When percy is in the principals office the other guy sitting off to the side is the author
This is actually the 3rd adaptation if you count the musical!
"Oh my god the blue in his shirt makes his -"
"I didn’t touch Nancy."
"He didn't, but the blue in his shirt makes his eyes pop so much"
MY FAVORITE PART SO FAR❤😂
"Mother Treeresa" please i cant
I loved It! Your reactions are so great!
Fun fact time, George Washington was Annabeth's brother! ☺️
3:45 That is literally just him reading the first paragraph of the book
“Don’t you dare. Don’t you… *huge gasp* Oh no you lil snitch! Oh no! Don’t you dare! Don’t you dare! You stick by you’re friend! *bigger gasp* YoU jUsT bRoKe ThE bRo-CoDe! No! No! We ain’t cool anymore!”
I’m dead😂😂😂
I love the Orphan Black reference in there!
Technically this is actually the third adaptations!
There’s an extremely faithful musical adaptation of the lightning thief, it was on broadway for a short time. It’s pretty good
There are commercials if you pay for the less expensive subscription to Disney+, so that’s where the harsh cuts to black come from! :)
I hope you continue watching and I have to warn you that these incredibly cute kids are about to go through a lot so get ready 🙃
you make me feel so safe man 😭😭
There were movies? Are you sure you’re not talking about Peter Johnson?
(It’s a joke in the fandom bc of how bad the movies were)
Sally is the BEST fictional mom!
Is anyone gonna talk about the bully's last name being "Bobofit"?😂
Wait… did she just call Grover a fawn at 19:10? How would she know that word and that it is just the Roman version of a Satyr. That’s very interesting
Mr Tumnus.
I remember that in older fantasy, both were interchangeable so maybe she just likes older fantasy novels?
Here’s another idea: she said it because It’s the word for a baby deer and she forgot Grover’s name and deer and goats are similar hooved animals 🤷🏻♀️ (didn’t know fawn was a Roman Satyr, that’s cool to know. I thought fauns had the lower body of deer instead of a goat)
Speaking as someone who wouldn't give Disney the money for an ad-free subscription, the hard cuts like they are going to go to commercial are exactly that 😅
The tree woman is what's known as a nymph there elemental creatures bonded to nature.
The John Mulaney edit. 🤣🤣🤣
