    I pretty much got all the tools you use except the Ryobi drill. I bought a cheap Harbor Freight drill because my Craftsman is too powerful. I was doing the headlights on my Tahoe in the parking lot of the condos I live in and pulled two customers. They seen the light I had already done and thought it was brand new. So now I have a Toyota Camry and a Nissan Altima to do tomorrow. I'm officially starting my side gig. Your method is tried and true and I see this becoming a future business for me here in Texas where the sun beats down headlights faithfully. I can't thank you enough.

    As always excellent work! I have a question; the clear coat is peeling on the aftermarket headlights on my 2018 VW GTI, but are still clear and have not become cloudy or oxidized. Should I begin process of removing the clear coat and reapply headlight clear coat? Or do I wait for them to become cloudy?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The longer you wait the more risk you have of damaging your headlights.. the spots that are peeling are not protected..
      I would redo them start fresh typically the clear coats on aftermarket are really poor...

      Does applying ceramic coating after all of this, while you are applying to the rest of the car, make the headlights stay clearer longer. I have been doing the 3M restore kit with the Meguiar's clearcoat. The only difference is you use the Meguiar's polish and I used the 3M wipe. I just ordered the polish for my next set.
      Thanks for the video. I do friends and family's probably a set every couple of months. The restoration is so satisfying 😊

    Great job, as always. Btw, what is the difference between both types of drills?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you appreciate it...
      Small variations... The compact rotation is a lot smoother and consistent easier to use but has less horsepower and less RPM which can take away from its power on a lot of the really difficult headlights... The full size has more power on both ends just a little bit and it's larger so less problems with vehicles with protruded bumpers or sunk in headlights...

    I have a 2010 ES 350 that I'm going to do next week once all the supplies come in that I ordered! Thanks so much for the clear instructions and your ability to teach and explaining why you do what you do. Just out of curiosity, how many cars do you get out of the 3M 3000 Trizac pads? I know you've mentioned you get 30+ cars from the FinesseIt pads, but I was wondering about those other pads. I've got enough to materials to do our two Lexus's, and I plan on getting more and doing it as a side hustle if all goes well. Thanks again for the inspiration!

    Ok, I'm convinced! I'm doing this on my 2007 4Runner and the rest of my family cars. QUESTION: why switch from a cordless drill to the 12v battery rotary? Couldn't you stick with one or the other for both applications? Or, is the drill too powerful and the 12v rotary has a more gentle action? I'm asking because I have a cordless drill and would rather not buy another tool if I don't need it. I also have a Griot's Garage rotary polisher I suppose I could use for all of it, right?

    I must say, that after doing 20 cars, Japanese headlights look so much better than other brands.
    Granted, all headlights are not equal, you work with what you get.
    As the HRP has said, each brand has varying levels of "hardness".

    I've been watching all your videos and when you do your restoration in the rain, how do you protect the headlights after you finish? They're going to get wet as soon as you leave. If you need them to stay dry for 24 hours, what do you do to keep those headlights dry after you apply clear coat when it's raining?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Who said anything about 24 hours..🤔🤔🤔🤔

    • @CoolcatTerri
      @CoolcatTerri 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@theheadlightrestorationpro It's a little out of context apologies, but in one video you said that you prefer to use the clear coat wipes when it's windy because the spray just isn't going to turn out right when there's a lot of wind. Makes sense. The Rust-Oleum wipe you used said it needs 24 hours to cure before getting wet. It's often windy when it rains. So do you use the wipes in the rain on a windy day?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CoolcatTerri okay so first of all I'm 1,000% sure I never said I use rustoleum wipe..lol
      Second of all of a thousand percent sure I don't have a video of wiping...
      I haven't used a wife and probably 3 years.. I just keep them in case of emergency I'd rather sit until the wind stops for a couple seconds or minutes and do it then....
      And if anything that is a spray or a wipe or whatever it takes a longer than 5 to 10 minutes to dry you shouldn't be using it on headlights...

    • @CoolcatTerri
      @CoolcatTerri 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@theheadlightrestorationpro The video is only a year old and you reviewed the Rust-Oleum kit with wipes. You gave it a high review even. And then on your part 1 doing restoration in the rain video which is also a year old you said at timestamp 11:08 & 12:06 you use 3M clear coat wipes when the wind is bad and you can't spray. You did say it's rare for you to use them but you will use them if spraying isn't possible.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CoolcatTerri honestly man I think you're confused I have no idea what you're talking about I've never once did a video with the wipes because they're extremely inferior... I might have commented on them but I have never done a video about them you have never seen me use a wipe...
      Also the Rust-Oleum kit is not a wipe I don't know what video you watched but it is a spray.... Sorry I'm pretty sure I'm the one who makes the videos I know what's on them..

    im curious for the finishing clear coat spray. would it work on a sponge applicator with the idea of wiping it on rather then spraying? I would go about it as spraying the sponge with the Meguiar's clearcoat, then wiping it onto the headlight with 50/50 coverage. Just a food for thought question.

    I’m curious? I’ve watched a lot of your videos. I’m always curious what people use as tools, because that’s how I learn. I learn from others that have a lot more experience. It appears that you use the 2 AH battery in the Royobi drill. Yet in the list of links you provide, you only list the 4AH. Am I getting something wrong? I would assume the 2AH battery is used because of weight. Rough idea? How many “average” headlights can you do on a fully charged 2 AH battery.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well the two age usually comes with the tool it's kind of rare to find one that sold just tool only majority of them are sold with the batteries the the batteries which happen to be the 2ah... That's why I listed the 4ah.. if you watch more of my videos you might catch a glimpse of the 4ah I usually pop that in when I am doing a heavy drill far as a 2K clear light or a very large light... I have two of them.. it's merely four weight distribution and or lasting.. regular size lights like on this video you're talking two cars with one battery 2ah...
      But as I said some of those messed up lights with 2K clear or hard structures will drain and those batteries or you'll be using one per light.... I prefer a lighter battery you can move around a lot better without that extra 2 in at the bottom and extra couple of ounces..👍🏽
      I prefer the 2ah when possible I have about seven of those and two fours...

    But, and correct me if I am wrong... that Meguiars coating is so soft, and it doesnt last as a result. Isn't something harder like specific clear coat, or ceramic coat (lets say Ceracoat) a way better way to go so it lasts for a couple of years at least?
    And I wonder, why cant we get factory grade coatings in a can after so many years of plastic headlights being in production by OEMs???

    • @McCain101
      @McCain101 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is my concern too, so what I'm personally doing this weekend is following this method (I've followed a very similar method on my previous car). After the Meguiars cure I'm going to follow up with a two coat Mohs (by gyeon) ceramic coating to add that extra layer. Hopefully that with routine washes/top coats will keep it perfect.

    • @lexindigital
      @lexindigital 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@McCain101 There is one issue with this - light dispersion. You will get way more refractions and other anomalies the thicker you go in layers. Especially when its not a perfectly bonded uniform layer of the actual lens structure.
      I say if restoration is done, only one later should be used. And i almost feel like only ceramic coating should be used.
      Vinyl layers also make it worse, but maybe thats a way around it to block most of UV, keep lenses safe with some light degradation

    Word. Goin' Gangsta on this one. I approve😂🤘 I have no interest in...nor aspirations to ever restore a headlight. However...my direct practice experiences with trying to convince a lens, lens cover, or a glass replacement clear display cover..I have never managed to gain success *to my standards* that makes me happy. The results you obtain are peerless Sir. Have you considered directly translating you maticuliously learned expertise to restore other lens/lens covers to water clear transparency or optical clarity level? I'm going to sift thru your channel and see if you've done anything similar. The materials could easily be different enough to require different techniques.

    The auto manufacturers are not doing it with one coat because it’s the best …..they do it with one coat because it’s the most most cost-effective When dealing with millions of cars….. It was the best they wouldn’t fade out like they do…. The Plastic is not protected enough that’s why it breaks Down ,degrades and Oxidizes …… High end automotive clear applied the proper way With enough coats will not peel off.

    Highest level???🤣🤣🤣🤣How many weeks it stands before peeling of? No degrease-desilicone procedure after the hands and the polish compound; putting some 1K mild crap with no resistance to road conditions; putting the clear coat to the glossy surface with no adhesion at all - these are the best receipt to having redo this job in a couple of months.
