This is so useful, thanks! I know this is a somewhat old video, but I was searching how to tack tutus and your video came up. I just recently bought my first practice tutu, which I'm super excited about, but I can tell it's likely going to need tacking, and I had no idea what to do. Until now!
SO HELPFUL!!! I have the black version of this Bloch tutu & the split-tulle layers have been driving me nuts- yours turned out so nice!!! Gorgeous! Great help: thank you so much! 🙏
I'm having the same tutu and never wore it because it annoyed me so much, that all the layers flea around, now I finally can water it, thank you so much ❤️
Hi, I just saw this and found it really helpful. I do have 3 questions: 1. Do you do "up and down" needlework, or a "straight line" needlework? I couldn't see the hand movement clearly, sorry. 2. Can I do this and then hoop the tutu, or do I need to hoop the tutu first? 3. Do you have a video about hooping the tutu? Hope you'll see this! Thanks,
I just saw this! 1. In this video, it was "up and down" I believe. 2. I would recommend hooping it first, but honestly, I have not yet hooped a video, so: 3. Not yet, but I would love to know how!
I know you probably won’t see this, but I’m going to the Nashville Ballet summer intensive this summer. They said we need a practice pancake tutu for partnering and other things. Many people have told me that 10 to 12 inches is best but those look kind of childish don’t you think? The tutu I ordered was the Adult Practice Tutu by Capezio. It seems a bit short, 12 inches long. Most tutus I’ve danced in have been anywhere from 13 to 15 inches long. Also the tutu itself is very fluffy and droopy and flies up. Many of the people I’ve talked to at ballet tell me not to tack the tutu but I think it’s best. So do you think 12 inches around is too short for a tutu? And also do you think the tutu is too droopy to be a pancake tutu? I was considering buying the Gaynor Minden pancake tutu but I’m worried it’s too long for what the Nashville Ballet wants. I looked everywhere online and no one gave any indication on how long the tutu is. Also I’m quite wide around the middle and I’m very curvy and short (5,4 to be exact). Most tutus usually have to be taken in in the waist and let out in the hips. It’s just very hard to find anything that fits. I know this is a lot but I would really appreciate your advice on what I should do about this problem of mine. Thanks so much!
Shannyn - I just saw this comment and THANK YOU for sharing your issues on this public forum. Have you already left for the intensive? I am hoping the school itself at Nashville Ballet is able to help you with your queries. It's best to actually see the dancer in the tutu to understand the fit - I could guess-timate based on the info you gave me here, but it's easier to just have someone look at you in the tutu. I do recommend tacking it for the sake of your partner, who does not want to get his hands stuck in a bunch of tulle :). You might consider getting something custom-fit for you. Have you looked into local seamstresses?
I have not seen anyone actually tack a long and draping tutu. Are you hoping to connect all of the layers together? What is your end-game goal? I don't know if you can pull this off with a long and drapey tutu :)

Yay! So glad you enjoyed it! Happy tutuing ✨
Extremely helpful! I happen to have the same Bloch tutu and the issue with tacking it.

Glad I could help!
Thank you! My daughter’s exam tutu is all over the place! I’ll be racking tomorrow before her exam this week. 💕
Very helpful! I need to do this for my daughter's tutu. Without this video, i have no idea what the correct way is.
Thanks for this, my tutu had gotten ruined when I brought it to school one day because people kicked around the case. I learned my lesson
That’s a very nice tutu I want to take ballet classes
Can you do a video about tacking a hooped tutu?
I love all your videos!! This was so helpful!!

How did you make so invisible? I tried and you can see my stitches
Hey! I used thread that matched the tutu, does that help? I feel like it doesn't help much, sorry :(
Hello ballerina badass!! :))))) Nice video.
+Maurice Webster Thanks Maurice - I am glad you enjoyed it!
does the sewing go in the middle of the layer, then switching layers its a diagonal line to the next layer?
I think it depends on the tutu, try a couple of ways and test it out before doing the full skirt!
what if all the layers in the skirt are the same length?
+kittyallstars That's a good question: is the tutu flat, short and stiff, or longer and drapey? (not sure if drapey is a word) :)
Ballerina Badass long and draping
