It looks fine tho No broken hinge or anything (I was 7 or 8 and so frustrated ^-^') Never did that again but yeah.. Does not want to turn on even after all this years laying in my room. Honestly I have taken appart all models of gameboys as well as DSes up to the regular small 3DS, all gameboys are very easy to deal with but DSes are harder due to the ribbons, 3DS is even worse because there’s a lot of ribbons in them, and if you break one of the connector on the board you can basically throw the board in the trash
I wanted to replace the shoulder buttons as they are broken. Accidentally also broke off the pin on the powerswitch. Now I have to resolder three switches and I can't even get one of them off because the solder just won't melt for some reason

My first ever repair/refurb project was on a DS Lite that I found buried in a drawer. It was pretty difficult considering I had absolutely no experience whatsoever. I managed to swap the shell to a red dragon (which I believe was only available in China) and replace the top screen :D
Just a note, your kind of skipping the actual refurb process here; I at least watch because it's relaxing to watch you fix the machine, but if you just do that as a montage it lessens the impact of that. Less educational, too. Just something to keep in mind.

Thought I broke mine when taking it apart because the touch screen ribbon cable pulled out and I couldn’t get it back in again until I saw how you undone the little clasp! It’s all working fine :)
I had a Black DS lite, but I sold it to get a 3DS, although I still have my old original model DS. I think I got it in January '05, a couple of months before the UK launch (Japanese import on eBay). I've never had any problems with the hinges of my DS's or 3DS, but I tend to be very careful with my handhelds.
I have an old DS Lite that doesn't read any cartridge and has bits of dead pixels, if only I've lived near him then ask if he can see any solution to it.
DS lite is my first ever portable gaming console 😂 buy refurbished with Edge + 8GB microsd , and some rom inside, about $18 in 2017. The only games I can play is Tetris 🤣

Replacement DS Lite screens are very cheap so you probably can get both top and bottom replacement screens and make a second nice one out of the two rose gold shell parts ;)
I was playing nds games right now (for nostalgia's sake), nice timing. I'm sure I'll never finish all the games I finished when I was 4-5 because now those games don't make me feel happy like before, I hate that.
Ok guys, Personally I find this is a much more advanced system ro refurbish. If your going to start somewhere, I reccomend a original Gameboy, Gameboy Color Gameboy Advance because the its not that many screws and is easy to completley disasemble. The GBA SP is a bit more tedious with more screws. The Ds is a pain and easy to break.
Hey Elliot! Can you do another ds lite refurb where you use a clear replacement shell(it's my favorite one)? If so I give you a tip: there are two different type of shells: there is one that has black writings, which is not very good, the writings are all off and the plastics are pretty cheap. And there's the ones which have white writings and those ones have much much better plastics, the printings themselves are pretty good! So I recommend obviously to get the white writing one
Really digging the music vibe. Brings me back to doing ds lite mods back in the day. I've got loads of tips for works on them if anyone needs help. And if anyone didn't know you can use a bottom screen as a top screen for testing although it will throw the screen ratio off a little bit.
So elliot I've just seen a guy restore some really yellowd keys from an old computer back to their original grey colour, and he used a method of boiling them in water with a good ammount of hydrogen peroxide for about an hour and the results were impressive. May be worth having a play and seeing what you can do with a discoloured case? Anyways if it works hope it helps
You've answered a question I was going to ask you, about which console to start with if you're a beginner who's never taken anything apart or repaired anything before. I think a DS lite might be a bit too ambitious for me to start with but I'm definitely going to look for a Gameboy pocket on eBay! I've never owned one of those so that will be a good place to start! :)

My cousin gave me a DS lite with a broken bottom screen and my friend gave me another one with the top screen completely ripped off. As a person who has failed most of my attempted repairs I can say that the DS lite is an easy console to fix, at least the bottom screen is, I don’t think I could do a top screen.

I'm literally doing this right now. One in particular now has a new card slot, a new shell and a new touchscreen digitiser. I'm just waiting for a new top screen to arrive, as the one I have has a couple of really annoying dead pixels.
Wish this video would’ve focused a bit more on the card slots and charging port, testing if they read and work correctly. I am considering doing this with a couple of my old ds lites to make one good one but the slots dont read games on either of them and one of them is very finicky at charging as well. Is replacing the slots and charging port possible or need a new motherboard? Feel like these are important points for something like this. Cheers.
We had purchased a new ds lite for my elderly mom so she could play Brain Age. She gave it back because she doesn`t play it anymore. I thought I might buy some games for it. My 2006 DS lite rumble pack has got a problem and every time I turn the console on it starts vibrating to the point of it being scary. Any idea of how to fix it?
Damn I still have the blue one. The lower screen is still ok but the up screen is doesn't run anymore. Whenever I turn on the Ds the up screen goes absolutely white. Doesn't show anything else. Just white. It happened in 2010 and from then it's still same. Damn it will be one my damn wishe to know what actually went wrong

Buying a broken console and taking the motherboard or buying the broken part only and placing it on my motherboard?

I think it is the one of the touch screen digitizer. Does anyone know if i can repair that eventually or if i can find any replacement part anywhere? I think that maybe one pin broke (i was trying to remove the BIOS but it was strongly attached) and now it does the flickering. I was thinking of changing the screens anyway beacuse of black stains, so maybe it could be possible that something else broke even if there wasn't any flickering before. So, any suggestions? Thanks

1:20 I’ve refurbished many DS Lites and the flickering indicates that the top screen’s ribbon cable is undone or not commected

I Don't think people should start with the DS lite. It's a royal pain in the ... to disassemble. Start with a GBA first.
