My succs in coir and pumice are doing so good . I much prefer coir to regular soil! They absorb the water they need with ease and no worry with rot ! Good stuff and environmentally friendly! I also add in a few handfuls of Worm Castings to feed them naturally and they love it !
I’ve been using coco coir for a couple of months and can already tell a huge difference in my succulents!! Their roots are so healthy. I found that my gritty mix and soil made all the roots so crispy and dry. I’m so glad you and I are so in sync, girl 🙏🏻🧚🏻
Just got through the part where you talked about indoor succulents getting choked by the compressed soil, and that’s exactly what happened to all of mine 😭 You always come through
I have a bag of coconut coir and hadn't used it because a lot of videos say it's not good, some say it is good. I will definitely be using some today. Thanks for the info! Love you!
Hi Thang I am loving your videos, do you still use this coco coir as your main medium? I have all of the ingredients on hand and would love to switch your collection is beautiful
What size are the white pots that you have most of your plants in AND what d oyou put underneath the pots to catch the water as it drains OR do these pots have little saucers to catch the excess ?
Thanks for the great info. I used Miracle Grow Cactus for a long time, and everything was going great, but I thought I'd try Gritty mix to try something different. I think it was a mistake because it requires too much attention with watering and fertilizing. I have all the ingredients for gritty mix, pine bark, diatomaceous earth, crushed granite. Do you recommend adding coco coir to that and some fertilizer?
I use both Coco Coir & Al's gritty Mix plus Worm Compost together on all types of indoor (60/30/20) & outdoor (70/20/10) plants. It's worked perfectly for 4 years thus far.
Interesting combination. Great explanation. Which slow release fertilizer do you use? Which antifungal? Also, do you use a rooting powder, or a tonic like Superthrive or Dr. Oz? Thank you.
I thought I followed your recommendations but my mix seems really light. It’s not keeping my succulents firmly in place. Should I compact the medium with my hands or add a thin layer of pebbles on top to give it some weight?
Thank you so much for this!! I bought some coco coir and vermiculite a few months ago planning to use it for my succulents, but then heard some people saying it's not good for the succs because it traps too much moisture and causes root rot/fungus or something so I was hesitating... So good to know it's fine after all and thanks for addressing those concerns! I have my succs in Lechuza-Pon substrate right now, do you think I should mix it with coco coir and vermiculite 40-40-20? Sending good vibes from Russia xxx
And i havnt ever tried fertilizer which one do you use? Ive been so scared to fertilize because their is so many people saying different things so i really dont know how to do it any suggestions? I want my succulents to grow faster... i have a direct contact to dick wrights son!!!! Craig wright and just ordered some of their beautiful plants so i want to make sure i have the best mix for these beauties
As usual love your videos! How do you feel about a recipe for succulents/cacti called Al's Gritty Mix? It's basically similar to the Bonsai mix, but has turface, lava rock, etc. I already use a similar coir mix like yours but have considered how they would do in that type of "potting mix"
The whole point of Al's Gritty Mix is for those that like to show their plants a little bit too much love with Over Watering & maybe even over feeding. It's an attempt to get the plants to grow big really quickly (but it has a few draw backs). I used to use Al's Gritty Mix. But then I found it to be stressful because I couldn't water the plants 3-4 times a week (more during the summer). And it also meant that being away from home for a few days wasn't feasible. I ended up repotting all of my plants & adding Coco Coir to the gritty mix. And now both me & my plants are much more relaxed & happier. Al's Gritty Mix is awesome because it can be re-used over & over again. It doesn't shrink or decay and nor does harbor any diseases & retains moisture & air in the tiny gritty holes. However, it's just not feasible if you cannot stay on top of the constant manual watering schedule, if you were to use the Gritty mix on its own.

Great and such a simple mix
Thank you for sharing the wonderful recipe with us Sir.
Much appreciated 👍

Yeah, I find it happening to a lot of my plants, roots all dead, dead dead and it's really devastating.
WildesThang ci put water in coco coir
Can i use it in mysucculent while still wet?
Thanks
this was so simple and helpful, thank you!

Well, it's because like dirt, it also holds moisture right. So you have to put inorganic in to balance it out. can't just use 100% cococoir
I’ve been struggling with soil and this helped! I’ve been using miracle grow with perlite and let’s just say I will not purchase again
there's been lots of new root growth from switching over and my plants are looking better
Thank so much for your recommendations i love this mixer

What ratio do you use for the components of the inorganic mix please
Which coco coir brand you recommend?
I have been looking for something I like. And I like Bonsai Jack. But it's real expensive. So I'll try this mix and see how I like it. Thanx!
Good luck!
Very informative. Thanks for sharing. Do you sift your Turface and Perlite to eliminate dust in them or not?
No you don't have to
can coir be mixed with soil
Can I use this with regular leafy house plants?
Could bonsai mix be a substitute for vermiculite?

Hi!!!! What kind of turface I can use please ? God bless u🙏🕊🙏🕊

Can we use coco coir in succulent while it wet?
try both and see which one works better for you =)

I have peat moss in my house, can i use that instead?

Yeah, pads it down
Thanks, doesn't matter as long as its not too high in nitrogen
I have bought succulent potted on only cocopeat will it work or I need to repot &change soil mix
What was the verdict on this?
Yo know you can just add some diatomaceous earth to kill the gnats and use sticky ribbons to kill the ones in the air
I thought I followed your recommendations but my mix seems really light. It’s not keeping my succulents firmly in place. Should I compact the medium with my hands or add a thin layer of pebbles on top to give it some weight?
Yeah, pad it down with top dressing

you should keep yours in lechuza then
@@ThangPlants Oh okay, thank you
Can you use coco peat or just coco coir? Thankyou
no
@@ThangPlants eeek! Thanks for letting me know!!
I believe coco coir and coco peat are the same product. Unless you meant peat moss, which IS different
Do you use this for echeverias

Try compost tea :)
For succulents is it important to rinse and buffer the coir?
Two years late but I was wondering this as well. Did you ever get an answer?
Noone answered. I just rinsed it and used it without buffering it. @@mangobutt9263
The coir should be pH-balanced and rinsed for salt already and if not, then you must.
I'm in Bangalore India, where the weather is mainly dry. My potters don't have holes. Do you recommend getting ones with holes? How do you water them?
If it's hot and dry a lot then most likely not since they water would evaporate quick but try with your cheap plants first and see how it goes.
@@ThangPlants thank you!
