  • Coconut coir (coconut fiber) is made from the outer husk of a coconut, and can be a more renewable alternative to sphagnum peat moss in potting soil. I purchased a brick of compressed coconut coir online to help fill my new container garden.

I never understand why people rake in the fall when leaves make the ideal mulch for winter ground. Spring, I get, but fall?

Is your coconut coir brick the same thing as coconut coir hanging basket liners as I've got quite a few and would like to use them when repotting some plants in huge containers and can it help with DRAINAGE!!!

I use coconut coir in all my orchids, and they are doing very well. However, I usually rinse mine before use due to there is some salt in it when it was processed. Thank you for the video.

there needs to be a world wide consistent use of terms the coco husk is made up of fibers called coir there is a dust that holds it together called simply coir dust or coco peat you are using coco peat- will yours looks like a few short fibers mixed in not pure peat look up definition of coir you will see, it is pretty big business, the peat i buy is from processing plant main business is selling the coir or fiber, a few people like me buy the peat, i think dole pineapple buys a bunch , i think as a mulch,
i buy it by the feed bag full but still contains lots of coir or fiber and have to clean the coir out of it to get a more pure peat and buffer it
side note interesting thing about peat is they use it in making a replacement for plywood i see, not sure of all details on that but heating it turns it into a board

Compost is a good fertilizer. There are also many organic products but usually have lower NPK than chemical fertilizers.

In Canada peat is more sustainable than coir that is imported from India and manufactured/processed with horrible chemicals that are dumbed into the rivers all while people work for low pay then add up all the oil used to transport that coir to India and then ship it to the USA and your store using trucks and ships. Now lets talk about which is better and more sustainable. All the peat in the USA I know of is not sustainable but peat from Canada is. I will take Canadian peat any day over imported coir. Neither is perfect but nothing is. Lumbar, metal and plastic in your garden and your home, etc. all have environmental impacts.
