To anyone concerned about the clutch cable being too tight, if you order a clutch cable from the first gen Honda Groms the cable is about an 1 1/4” longer and will give you more slack. Hope this helps someone else out as much as it did for me! (:

HunterK155 sick dude, I just ordered the bars and a 15’ clutch cable. In this video his lever seemed to be to far down for my riding style.
@@dsmith523 Yep even with the lever down and re routed it still stretches the cable alot. I cant stand doing stuff improper and the first gen cable fits exactly as stock, but with wider bars. You'll love the bars! Changes the way the whole bike feels and looks.
@HunterK155 God bless you. I’ve fitted these bars and the stock clutch cable is in no way fixable to get more slack out of it. I was searching for your comment because I saw it before installing but didn’t remember which vid. Now I know I need to buy a first gen grom clutch cable. Life saver comment, appreciate.

Thanks for the video! I was looking at these exact bars! I ACTUALLY wanted the Renthal "tall" ones that were made for the same dirt bike these ones were made for BUT they are out of stock because of Covid. These are PERFECT for us big guys.
I quite like the broader looking bars, it gives the little grom a muscular stance much like a Flat Track Bike :)

I just installed the same bar on my grom. But I added 1 inch extensions on both side for the controls to mount just like the stock ones.. love them. Appreciate the info.
Very good, BrotherBlock! Quick advice that works better than electrical tape: griptape works better. I changed mine out a couple of years ago and it worked much better than electrical and the adhesive sticks longer. Those ProTapers look perfect!

Its crazy how much the honda grom has been a part of my life. I sold my first grom in 2021 and i repurchased one this February. Im thinking of getting the pr bars and idk if i should pay someone to install them or if i should do it myself.

Curious about these bars.... been learning wheelies and am having the problem of holding the throttle open to much because my arms are straight out with no bend while using the Honda mini protaper bars.... before I loop my bike, I’m curious of these bars since the higher height will allow me to bend my elbow and prevent pre whiskey throttle situations

like these bars as I'm 6'2" and they seem like it'd make the ride more comfortable. Was a little sketch that the cables and controls weren't gonna reach high enough to be mounted on the higher bars tho. That was close lol

Followed this literally step by step installing protaper contour bars.... Got to the point of mounting the new bars and realised they were too fat for the stock mounts!! Got to assemble it all and order new mounts 💀

Bent my PROTAPER in my first month, bought the PitBike (PROTAPER knock offs) and I’m not going anywhere else, they look just as good for half the price 🤙🏻

Did you trim down throttle tube? Awfully difficult to fit everything on throttle side. Thinking about trimming it down but did not know if there was a trick you found to fit.
I bought the xr 50 bars they did not fit for me clutch cable is too short I even looked into motion pro for a longer cable and they told me around 75 bucks to have one made also I had the bars extended about an inch on both side to fit everything properly for as clutch levers blinkers controls etc. I love the height and the look of the bars but it’s a little more that you have to do to make them work properly I just end up putting the crossbar on my stock bars and a pro taper bar pad. I also installed the KLX 110 bars everything fits but there to low and uncomfortable the bar has no sweep almost straight across which for me it started adding pressure to the wrist. With them being low it change the geometry of the bike when turning and pulling wheelies

Sir Blockhead! I need your help! How the hell do you install the throttle tube?! I’m getting quite annoyed trying to get the throttle wires in the slots.
Could you have put the switches and cables on before attaching to the tripple tree? Just curious obviously not install but just get everything that needs to go on the bars on the bars berry loosely fitted and maybe that could have abounded the whole front plastic take off and reroute. Or is there any reason this would not work in the slightest.
Are these the xr50s? I don't think my clutch is gonna be able to fit on these.

How is the electrical tap holding up ?
How tall are you and what's your inseam? Curious cuz I'm trying to decide if I need a different seat or handlebars or both because my ass wants to go right where the bump is on the seat and it's super annoying.
why did you not install the mirrors?
Why would you change out the handlebars just to keep them the stock height? Pure aesthetics?
You may need to keep an eye on the electrical tape that you used...the adhesive on electrical tape tends to get slimy when it gets hot...Florida sun may heat the bars up enough when you park it somewhere to make it slippery...I would recommend folding the electrical tape in half so it sticks to itself with both adhesive sides together , then wrapping around your bars...this will have the clamp really biting onto the rubber of the tape and have the rubber be what grips the bar instead of the adhesive...you could also use a little duct tape instead...that adhesive doesnt get slimy with heat as easily...keep the vids coming...ride safe ✌👇
Has been holding up well so far. There's never any stress on the controls (rotating around the bar) so seems to be doing the job ok thus far, but if I do come across any issue, will def go w/ a different tape for sure.

If I'm switching to pro tapers and I have pro taper grips also, do I have to buy a new throttle tube like you did or can I use the stock one?
I did the same as you, you can use your stock throttle tube, and when taking your old grips off, if you dont need them, just cut them with a razar blade, it will make life alot easier
When you put your throttle side back on did you have any issues getting the 2 screws in and the case to close up? I keep trying to put the 2 screws in and I cannot get that thing to fully close back up

How's the visibility on the speed o meter though? Doesn't the Pro Taper mid bar block it?
Matthias Heijnsbroek I did this exact install. I’m 5’11” and it blocks maybe a 5th of the display. Short lean forward I can see all. I don’t recommend this install by the way.

Thanks! Yeah you can do it the other way around. I replaced my grips awhile back, and then decided I wanted to raise the bars. Which worked out, b/c I didn't like the grips that I'd put on. They're cheap grips anyways, so not a big loss 👍
Can’t you just adjust the stock bars and push them forward to your liking if someone wants to keep the stocks?
How did you go cutting the ends off the grips for your bar end mirrors? Just wanted to ask before I hack into mine...
Bobbi Hansel I used a razor blade. Looks clean. But remember you have to cut your throttle tube which he does not state. I was pretty upset at first but so be it.

The link takes you to the correct bars - just has the wrong picture. Literally just had mine delivered. Read the description in the link on amazon. Chimeras are gone from there.

Not to nitpick, but the link in your description is to the Honda Mini bars. Yours are the XR50 bars (#02-5262). The Honda Mini bars are even shorter then the KLX110 bars but not as wide.

Hi Mr Blockhead. Here we are 1 year later, are you still happy with these bars? I just bought the same ones. Like you, i wanted something a bit higher and wider. They are getting installed later this week.

Long story short - i had someone try and fit them for me ( i am useless at that sort of thing). This guy couldnt be bothered working out how to fit the controls as the straight section is quite short. He decided it couldnt be done. I know it can, but i was in no position to tell him his job. This video shows it can be done, and i know of others who have done it. So I still have the stock bars on.

Jamie metric Allen set, Phillips screw driver. Pair of pliers and diagonal cutters. I believe that is all. FYI I don’t recommend this install.

Who looks at the speedo? The bike only goes as fast as 58 mph - you won't exceed most speed limits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure those zip ties were meant to be reusable. At least it is on my grom. There's a tab that disengages the lock so you can remove them

I did this exact install. I love the look and feel of these bars but your stock bar equipment does not fit on these bars completely. You must cut your grips from original 5 inch down to 4 inch also you are cutting your throttle tube which I now see in the video was done but was not mentioned. Be very careful after lengthening your cables. Please test in safe area and be fully aware. Easy install. Only recommend if you are familiar with bikes and are not afraid to cut throttle tube and grips. Hope this helps
Yes he washed over the fact it does not quite fit right with the brake and clutch levers on the bend! which he mentioned but did not show fully the extreme angle the brake and clutch levers would be on! only solution is to cut the grips and throttle tube or have them overhanging out a half an inch on each side! I managed to do this and fit Fenrir bar end mirrors hoping my new brake levers will hide the extreme angle the brake and clutch levers pull back too! and the fact your brake lever reservoir is taking a nose dive to fit! ffs dont cut any off the bars to shorten them you would never get the controls on!
Don't do this setup. There is not enough length on the end of the bars to mount everything. You'll end up mounting your levers in the actual bend of the bars which cocks them up at a weird angle. How do I know this? I watched this video, ordered them and spent 3 hours trying to make them work. To mount everything correctly will leave you short a half an inch on each side. I just ordered the KLX bars, like everyone else is running, and Rox risers. @9:31 in the video you can see how little amount of length on the end to mount everything.

On a scale of 1-10, how much did you hate yourself for adding grips and bar end mirrors first? lol Was this an afterthought purchase?
I decided to buy bars afterwards, and I didn't hate myself at all. Grips and bar end mirrors are easy, it was finding the length in the lines for the new bars that was the difficult part 👍

These bars won’t work on a ‘22
I tried installing KLX110 bars (which are lower than yours) and a G2 throttle tube and it was a complete shit show. I had to remove the whole side panel of the bike to get the throttle tube mounted and I couldn’t get the glue to break loose on the stock brake lines so I had to order +2” longer brake lines that I’m still waiting to get here.
Sounds like quite a different install experience, hope it goes smoothly for you from here!
