It was an entry for the EAGL4 game engine, thus the car handling was more realistic (it depends on the type of drivetrain) and it included the extensive car damage modelling. The best part about this game, is the one and only - the soundtrack. Wolf Like Me, Pogo, Blackjack, Neon Knights etc. WOW those are the songs to remember. And yeah, VTEC.

This game knows what it is and what its not and uses its strengths to the maximum.

My favourite NFS game. Carbon and MW being second. All these things like these flashy effects, random close ups and all that made this game so hype it's crazy. Whenever I see even just a screenshot of this game, it always brings tears to my eyes. This game got me into NFS so much. To me the Battle Machine RX7 is the best car in the NFS franchise, it was something that could not be won or bought in pro street, and due to customer demand it was introduced in later nfs games, was used to lure us into playing the game, the damn intro to the game had me so hyped along with the promo photos and advertisements, the scratched paint, duct tape and zip ties with the mis matched wheels showing a "I wont give in no matter what and im not afraid to trade paint" attitude which if you actually go to a real race day event is what a lot of racers are exactly like, full of character, it could have been an epic backstory/side mission car. I love the NFS MW M3 GTR, Rachels 350Z, Eddies R34 and a long list of other NFS cars. But this RX7 should have been in Ryan Coopers Garage on Pro Street.
I've played PS for 15+ years, even modded the game on PC and your right, even I cant get a hold of the BM FD. I can get all the other NPC Ai cars including all the final boss cars but yet to come across the infamous trailer car. I know once and only once I saw the MW M3 but it was like a faint ghost of the livery gray on gray. The regular E46 M3 and its full body kit does exit, just not the livery (though its been recreated forever lol).
Because of this game I learned that speed and road are things not to be meddled with. Also that racing belonges to The racetrack and not on The streets endangering others. Now after hundreds of thousands of miles I still remember this game and how it made me respect the road and that driving can be dangerous. Wish I can see remaster of this game :/
Prostreet is NFS attempt at being the arcade version of Gran Turismo. It was hated because of that. For me personally this is the last entry in NFS that they actually tries something new. Later game in the franchise are pretty much Most Wanted without it's glory. Granted I quit NFS right after Most Wanted 2012 so I don't play anything after that.
Man, even just aesthetically Prostreet was so good. Shift kind of tried to replicate that but couldn't for some reason. My favourite NFS game hands down.

It's been 14 years now but, day will come when I buy that triange boi and make it exact same as it's on the intro.
