The test basically boiled down to "What is your first/instinctual reaction when you face a mage you cannot hope to defeat?" Übel passed because she is not bound by logical thinking like "Serie's power is far beyond me" any more than she is bound by "this cloak cannot be cut". Methode passed because when facing all the immense, Sage of Destruction-level mana, her first thought was "well ain't she small and cute!". She was not intimidated. Denken and Wirbel passed, because instead of trembling in fear, they calmly considered their options (as bad as those options were). Land passed because he dared to pull off something like that.
To be honest, Methode is a pretty versatile mage. Besides being adept at combat magic and counterattacks simultaneously (in dungeons), she can also perform mental control magic when Denken asks who can. Moreover, she can use wide-range detection magic to track cloned individuals in dungeons, and most importantly, she possesses goddess magic to heal injured examiners, something none of the other mages can do. She must be a genius in every aspect. So, during the interview with Serie, she was completely unfazed by Serie's immense magical pressure, only thinking about how cute Serie was, almost to the point of wanting to hug and kiss her. Thus, she passed the interview...😂

Lernen didn't even make Frieren summon her staff... he's strong, but he would lose that fight for sure. especially against anime version of Frieren who has several times the mana she had in manga(i mean, in manga she too had overwhelmingly more mana that Aura in mana release scene, but in anime Aura's mana looks non-existing compared to Frieren's) and throwing black holes like its no big deal. but in both manga and anime Frieren had that spell her clone used on Fern, the one she couldn't even recognize as a spell. this thing alone would be enough to defeat Lernen. that's just "nah, i'd win" moment

honestly, i still think Serie just provoked Lernen to finght Frieren. after all, what would he lose? he himself said how monstously powerful Frieren is, if he lose to her, it won't destroy his ego or something. and Serie knows Frieren good enough to say she won't kill Lernen if she win. so all in all, it was worth trying. i mean Lernen is still an asshole for trying to kill her, he could just ask for sparring. and we saw him in action in manga, he's strong, but nowhere near Frieren, especially anime version of her with black holes and a giant Zoltrak. it was legit "nah, i'd win" moment.
@@Circle9ru It is not always about comparing the apparent power. Lernen's "ordinary offensive magic" Zoltraak blasts instantly pierced Frieren's shields and injured her. Considering their small size and speed with which he shot them (especially compared to CopyFrieren's giant Zoltraak) mean those small shots punched far beyond their weight class. Denken was incapable of even scratching Frieren through her shields. We see another prime example with Übel beating Sense and Burg (both being more powerful mages), and later on with Denken beating Macht, a mage Frieren lost to. In another example, had Aura not made a fatal tactical mistake in underestimating Frieren, it is implied her continuous onslaught of puppets would have worn Frieren down. Just a little aside. While Fern's pick of a spell is great, a little context should paint why it is an unusual spell for her to pick. She was offered any spell the Elf Mage knew to be taught instantly and fully. So any spell you could possibly think of She probably knows and could teach her. From a protective shield that can't be penetrated, to a spell to empty lakes of water. Spells to flip mountains ect. Who truely knows the extent of the spells she has and knows. And Fern given the endless choices of spells to learn, got a spell for dry cleaning.

Frieren is the only anime for a long time where it got me excited every week again waiting for the next episode. As much as I want a season 2. Madhouse isn't exactly churning out continuous seasons of the same anime like Mappa is for example. When Frieren jumped to #1 on MAL after ep1 I thought it's premature. Maybe it still is? In theory it's not impossible for the story to fell-off hard, but after seeing how they wrapped up s1 I just can't find anything to criticise. This truly was a perfect season of anime. I came back to watching anime around 2020, after a 10 yo break and I'm so glad I did. There's so many great new (or new-ish) shows I'd missed if I didn't. Shows like Vinland Saga, Kaguya-sama, Oshi no ko, A Silent Voice, Heavenly Delusions, Attack on Titan, Made in Abyss, great new school shonens like JJK and Demon Slayer, but if I never returned to this hobby and could only know about one of them I'd choose Frieren in a heartbeat.
Dr. STONE brought me back into watching current anime back in 2019. So much anime available compared to the mid-late 90s when I first got into it. Thanks for watching!
AMAZING SHOW and be prepared for S2 cause....man...it has the potential to be even better than this. Also, Land doing the exam through ZOOM platform LMAO😂 nah bro Ubel, Land and Methode exams were freaking funny
In my TLDR of why Serie banned Frieren Frieren: am I banned? Serie: Yes. Frieren: why? Serie: Because f-- you thats why. Also I love how most of us thought Serie is just one old tsundere of a granny elf. She's just worse than Frieren in understanding how emotions work. Imagine how lonely she truly is.
lets take a moment to admire Serie being a professional at 3rd test, shall we? i mean, weren't every her decision 100% correct there? i mean, Kanne, Laufen, Sharf, Dunste and Ehre are not worthy being 1st class mages. later in manga they show that 1st class mage is not just a title, but also a job and sometimes very dangerous one. Kanne no questions here, she's bad in mana detection(Lawine was able to feel flying monsters, but Kanne wasn't), she can control water, but can't create it and also can't control it from not even that big distance, unpatient and too emotional for mage(who need focus in the battle), overal too weak for 1st class. of them twwo Lawine was a better mage, but i doubt she would pass. Laufen... just nah, she's stupid enough to get in Frieren's trap even knowing she won't kill Denken. also she almost lost to Metode's clone even being a bad matchup for her. Shaft is bad enough to let Land come in hand distance to him, not to mention he was out of mana after every fight the had. Dunste? thre of them could barely stand 15 seconds against Sense clone. Ehere lost to Fern because she was scared by her power, was also scared by Serie's mana. being scared in fight is a good way to die for mage in this show. Fern is strong and skilled enough for 1st class. Serie still could fail her just becase she feel like it, but she didn't let her ego stand on the way of the exam. Denken was more than worthy for 1st class. he's strong and skilled, have courage to fight Frieren knowing who she is even if he underestimated her, smart enough to not jump on her again after she washed the floor with his ass, smart enough to retreat immediately after he saw her clone not going to hold back. Ubel has a great potential, even if she's crazy murderer. Wirbel also strong, skilled and smart, and good in teamwork, smart enough to not pick a fight he has no chance in, and don't afraid of overwhelmingly stronger oponent. Metode is just good in almost everything. and again, not afraid of overwhelmingly stronger opponent. the only one who could pass but didn't because of Serie ego is Frieren, but Serie knew Frieren doesn't really need the title of 1st class mage. and a cherry on a top, Serie even apologize to her student at the end, agaib, being able to throw away your ego when you're the boss of some big organixation and admit your mistakes is quite professional.
Flamme turely understand Serie's thought, which is not she foresee Serie tear her will up, because she know without accept new apprentice Serise will keep recall her in lonely.
It may be the first season of the year and only half of this show witch to be fair in my opinion been the better part of the 2 not that first cour was bad its was great I just really liked the exam but this may already be my anime of the year almost definitely if re zero season 3 doesnt happen this year and I really hope I dont have to wait 4 years between seasons like that show

20:10 Grazed her and shattered her defense spells. Lernen ain't no slouch. Serie doesn't teach the talentless.
Yeah, and that guy made those escape golems that can heal.
Serie driving an old man to murder with her fuckin tsundere behavior bruh. Just talk to him damn... 😅
👀👀👀👀
In my TLDR of why Serie banned Frieren
Frieren: am I banned?
Serie: Yes.
Frieren: why?
Serie: Because f-- you thats why.
Also I love how most of us thought Serie is just one old tsundere of a granny elf. She's just worse than Frieren in understanding how emotions work.
Imagine how lonely she truly is.
i'm just wondering are u going to rereact with a dub later?
Maybe. Dunno... Kinda wanna enjoy it without the lights and presentation, but we'll see.
@@TheGenreVersealright no problem thanks for your reply
Denken is usually the type of char i dislike in animes, but i dunno something about him i cant help but enjoy watching
ここから先は今までのシリーズよりさらに面白くなります。アニメ化を待ちましょう
Thank you for watching and commenting. We are excited for more from this amazing series.
14:17 😭 how did u even come to that conclusion (ironically he is the perfect example of the mage Serie wanted frieren to become)
Did I do something wrong? I thought he may find her abilities enticing and want to learn something to help him in his own goals is all.
we want season 2 😭
Yes!
we may have to wait a year or 2 for season 2 😭😭
Since it's Madhouse, probably longer that that🗿
😭
@@joehanz9217 I doubt madhouse would animate season 2, just like how they did with OPM. we didn't hear a green light from so we'll never know
"A mere 10 year wait" -Frieren
lets take a moment to admire Serie being a professional at 3rd test, shall we? i mean, weren't every her decision 100% correct there? i mean, Kanne, Laufen, Sharf, Dunste and Ehre are not worthy being 1st class mages. later in manga they show that 1st class mage is not just a title, but also a job and sometimes very dangerous one.
I'm hoping to read Frieren one day... I'd like all the extra context...
Serie is the Tsundere battle junkie.
Lol
Flamme turely understand Serie's thought,
which is not she foresee Serie tear her will up, because she know without accept new apprentice Serise will keep recall her in lonely.
Frieren is best anime.
Hi, if you are planning to react to the dub version please consider doing the timer reaction 🙏
Like watch along?
@@TheGenreVerse yes, timer or full length. The one with the timer in the corner
20:52 Yep :D. 1000 year ban.
