- Big train, big wow. Yes. We like the 2-12-2. Maybe not it's water capacity.

Yardmaster: Sir, why were you going 110 in the yard?
Hyce: I had places to be
Yardmaster: Checks out. See you Monday
To Hyce,

Hmm, maybe Hyce could sell a Smells like Kenosha greatest hits calendar!
Thank you for your services John!
So given the fact the the 2-12-2 doesn't have a classification name, the fact you ended up running it because you binned an engine at the start of the video, and it's your first rearranged wheel arrangement in career mode I hereby classify the 2-12-2 as the Kenosha Type. This power is granted so graciously by the Derail Valley God's and may be granted again for future wheel arrangements. May you enjoy future wheel arrangements as a blessing from the Gods themselves.
lmao *SOLD*
@@Hyce777 Heck Yeah!
(Edit: Future readers ignore this, I made an oopsie daisy)
Fun as that is(and honestly that's what I'm gonna call them now), the wheel arrangement DOES have a classification name, kinda. It's known as the Santa Fe type, since the AT&SF was the first to use them. However, the NYC called their 4-8-2s and 4-8-4s Mohawks and Niagaras instead of Mountains and Northerns, sooooo Kenosha Type it is!! At least for the good ol' ES&D
@@Railman1225 Well the 2-10-2 is called the Santa Fe Type but a 2-12-2 to the best of my knowledge never existed. There were 4-10-2 and of course 4-12-2 but never a 2-12-2 to the best of my knowledge. But I'm glad my name for the wheel arrangement is gaining traction.
@@PennsyPappas OHHHHHhhhhh, I'm stupid! Okay, 2-12-2. Did exist, but was very rare. They only existed in Austria and Indonesia, and it seems they were tank engines. Also, the wheel arrangement really doesn't have a name. Well then, like I said, Kenosha Type it is!
(All this is just extra info)
The Austrian one is *really* weird. It's a large rack locomotive, and two of its drivers are technically above the main ones. As for the Indonesian, typical looking steam locomotive, excluding the 12 drivers, and it seems at least one survived into preservation.
0:52 "Whats up guys, this is Hyce" *smells like Kenosha starts playing*
Legend says that a 2-12-2 is the reason why the universe is expanding
Lol
It must have already expanded because in Bulgaria we have a 2-12-4...and it's a tank engine
53:11 0.5 bar as a rule of thumb. Or having the injector on max for 30 (small engines) or 60 (big engines) seconds. Whatever happens first

Well, this should be interesting. I sure hope no boiler explosion- ok, in the time it took me to write that Smells Like Kenosha started playing. This should be a fun one.
Not even 40 seconds in and Kanosha is playing, this is gonna get interesting quickly.
Predicted last night in the community post😂
That was my thought exactly lmao
38:05 The steel mill really has B3 as the only inbound track. There's also A6, but with it being an A track it's likely short and wouldn't take more than a few cars (found someone figuring 5 cars of room).
A3, 4, 5 are all storage tracks; A7 is loading; B1, 2, 4, 6 are all outbound; B7, 8 are storage; what would be B5 is the main; and assuming A1, 2 would be the turntable and shop tracks.
So, yes, if you're going to the steel mill, B3I is a safe bet unless it's a small cut.
Huh, well, I guess that makes a lot of sense. Lol.
Food Factory has C4, C6, and D2 as inbound tracks. C4 and C6 look by map and switch order to be similar lengths.
Procedural speed signs must be why there's sections (that one specifically I think headed to the farm from steel mill just below wye?) that are 90 immediately followed by 60 about a locomotive length later.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a multiplayer option where you could have a brakeman, conductor, fireman, engineer, dispatch, etc?
It'd be incredible.
terchnically there is a remote dispatch mod for simulator now, allowing your friends a remote map of the valley that they can throw switches from.
maybe kAN could play@@Hyce777
I sure hope that add that eventually, then it would be much more simulator like
@@therocinante3443 The developer is aware that this feature is much wanted but they said that it would require a lot of inner code reworking to allow.
Paperwork can be incredibly interesting. Just make sure you remember to file your I-D1-O/T in triplicate, followed by a Failure Action/Investigation letter signed by your foreman, and use requisition form S1978 and write in "Urinalysis Test Recepticle" where it says machine gun. Bean counters are using Korean era Army surplus paperwork to cut costs.

The rest of the adventure was fun. For me I like the unpredictable nature of the steam engine wheel mod.
PS. The end scroll is absurd now.... you're going to need to write an extended cut of End of the Line soon. :) Thanks for the fun!

(a few minutes later)
Me: (SNIFFFF) I smell Kenosha.
I still think you should use Zibach's couplers during this playthrough. You can keep using the chain if you feel like going to knuckles would be against the spirit of things, but having the ability to loose couple and not have to screw the coupler tight is really nice.
Hyce has given me a Pavlovian dread response to Kenosha.
17:51 Like how the bell kind of matches up to the beat of the music lol.
Video: starts
Kenosha: starts
The locomotive: already running
Someone forgot to notify fast travel security Hyce was a flight risk and that's how the refinery smells like Kenosha again.lol
Christ, when Kenosha already starts at 0:43...damn night shift hostlers.
Kenosha being the opening song to the episode make me excited for the rest
Love what they wrote on the bottom of the de6 😂
Safety inspector: why were you doing a 110 through the yard? Hyce: why the hell did you put a turn were there was no need in the middle of the track?
Hyce: why is the Ayer gone???
Also hyce: COAL IN THE HOLE

If you go into mouse mode with ALT, there's a little button in the upper-right corner of the screen that gives you the default key-bindings.
A movie-length video, nice.
Wouldn't it be awesome to watch Hyce's DV career playthrough in a theater?
"I've been here for three days"
“We won’t let us leave, some have been here since before simulator”
i like to watch it on my projector :)
that would be a long movie.
Only if it's in surround sound.
Gotta love it when the episode starts with kenosha playing.
My first thought on seeing those 2-12-2 rods dancing like a bat outta Hell is "How much carnage would there be if this threw a rod right now?" I'm imagining the rod either achieving low Earth orbit or embedding itself a kilometer in the ground, depending on if it went up or down.
Love that the load screen image is an explody boi inferno
Thanks for video, my 1st son was just born a few days, I got him down for a nap and I will be enjoying this video if I don’t fall asleep.
I thought this was supposed to be a serious play through and here you are blowing up the oil well :p
It is serious! For sure. I promise. Or something.
It is serious except when the insurance copay is already maxed out.
About wheel slip, have you heard about the 1994 Blue Peter incident there is video of it here on YT, it slipped so fast, the motion broke and a wheel moved on its axle
I have. It's insane.
That was caused by the fireman, who wasn’t too familiar with the locomotive over filling and priming the boiler, leading to the driver not being able to close the regulator making the slip worse and worse
„Maybe I shouldn’t have run 110 through the yard?“ 😂😂😂
The sound you're looking for at 22:13 is Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura saying "LIKE A GLOVE"
More time in the Causing Confusion & Delay simulator! Woo! Always nice to see these.
Not even a minute in, and it already smells like Kenosha.
Oh boy here we go
I'm glad you covered Freight Train on your album, one of the first songs I learned on guitar
DV added the slug for diesels, they need to add an aux tender for the steam locomotives.
*Smells like Kenosha starts two minutes in* - "What? Already?!"
Loved the Wiley Coyote moment with the tunnel. That was epic.
just in case you didn't know aready (or for anyone else that doesn't know) you can use T/G to control the throttle' Y/H to control the reverser' U/J to control the trains' I/K to control the ind brake and finally m/, to control the cylinder drains. this works anywhere on any locomotive (as far as i know) so you can stand on the roof while shunting and still have control of everything or on the pilot while doing 120 on the main idk but id only works on the locomotive so you cant stand on the tender of a steamer and expect this to work you need to be on the locomotive for this to work. oh btw yes they work in realistic career.
they fixed this, you now need to be in the cab to use keyboard in realism
Gotta love seeing the splodey boys and the burney boys
Hyce you should definitely head over to the shop at machine factory and grab the EOT lantern
Smells like Kenosha started playing not even a minute in to the video
Hello Hyce, I absolutely love this series of Derail Valley. It is the perfect combination of trains and hubris. Will there be more race videos with kAN? Btw, on the 2 year stream, there was a German song noticed by youtube 😂
that first couple was just beautiful absolutely amazing.
I think you should get the remote, so you can run a 2-12-2 double heading with a DE6 with the slug, and remote control the DE6 so you don't have to jump between cabs. That would really just haul the world!
edit: you should also make/get an f key autoclicker.
they removed the ability to remote with the DE6
Remote DE2 + Slug, plus 2-12-2?
What an explody episode! Glad to know that Hyce likes good music, as well!
Hey! Keyboard controls! Those definitely do still work, in and sometimes on-top of the cab, Haven't ran the 'S282' all that much but its probably not working for you since you might've been standing on the tender, (or just too far away) and you can always check what they are with a button on the ALT screen :)
Hyce: the one-man-band Brakegeneermanductor.
Oh my god. Not even a minute into the video and I hear kenosha playing XD
WHAT ARE YOU SMOKIN' HYCE?!
BEANZzzzzzzz!
give'er the Beanzzzzz! and the DE-6 takes a trackside nap.
go find Kan and the ES&D gang to take on various jobs like shunting several jobs into a train prior to you taking them so you accept & roll.
so how much did you have to pay in environment Fees for all the Brush fires you lit off puking cinders out the stack.
in truth, 2-12-2 and their cousins typically maxed out around 40-50mph. they were Drag Engines made to pull heavy bulk trains like coal, grain or Iron Ore.
low priority stuff that gets there when it gets there unlike trains like the Pacific Fruit Express which essentially owned the Railroad once the cleared the yard
i love when i play, just doing a little roleplay, and i more or less exclusively do work in the sawmills and forests. moving the logs and lumber around. kind of fun, if only a little underpaying.
Hyce: *Pays the >$300,000 to clear >$2,000,000 of fees*
Career management terminal: *you wha-*
cant believe hyce went careening off the lil S curve, just like hitting a pebble on roller skates lol
I knew that song and the fact that Pink Floyd is forgotten it makes me happy when others know about it. I look forward to watching more content
Running highway speeds in the yard at night?
That wasn't an accident, that DE6 was murdered.
Allegedly
Always a good video when Hyce says hello to the bois! Then we get a fun montage of the bois doing what they do best! The funny thing is, I've started referring to gas canisters and tank cars and tanker trucks and all that as explody bois in normal conversation and have gotten some funny looks.
1:14:57 explody boys time 😈💥
1:15:29 KABOOM 💥
35 seconds in and the smells like kenosha song is playing. Hyce how are u not behind bars yet? 😂😂
I'm waiting for the day when the song it's already mid way when the video starts
Okay now i'm 200% sure you watched that LMS firing film after I told you about it last time you drove the steamer! haha!
I'd seen it years ago and rewatched it when I did the "why do US trains smoke but UK ones don't" video maybe 6 months ago. Just never bothered to apply it to DV haha
@@Hyce777 Yet more proof that somehow derail valley is the most accurate train simulator on the market, its kind of embarrassing for the other games honestly. :P
I misread the title as TWELVE STEAMERS and was like, that sounds like actual work, I wonder how that plays out..
22:10 that was satisfyingly smooth
I'm thinking use whatever cursed steam locomotive the game gives you next time. It will definitely make things interesting lol
Don't you wish Derail Valley had a multiplayer mode lol
Also the sheer absurdity of the record labels tossing DMCA takedowns like candy whenever someone even uses a single note of their songs is a mood.
Not a huge fan of the short teleport distance personally. I get the "realistic" part that you shouldn't be able to teleport, but there'd normally be more than one person on the train, right? So unless they make it possible to quickly switch between "positions" on the train for where different roles would normally be, the short teleport just feels tedius, triggers motion sickness, and seems like an easy way to get RSI.. Anyway, here's hoping for custom difficulty with longer teleporting enabled, keep up the fun videos Hyce! ^^
i would not be opposed if you rewheel back to a 2-12-2 so as to keep a steady steam workhorse between loading up saves.
Hyce must have worked for NASA if the events leading up to 1:17:25 "caused confusion and delay."
Loved the Batman TV show transition effect.🤣
You gotta love it when Hyce make some Pink Floyd references.
Im just now getting caught up on the Derail Valley series, and I see that Hyce was going for an any % Kenosha speedrun here. I cant wait to see if there's a faster one ahead.
5 PSI is 34473,8 Pascals or 1/3 bar
3:50 and here we go first derailment
43:10
I love me a good Pink Floyd reference (the time is gone, the song is over. Thought I’d something more to say)
Btw, Ummagumma & Meddle are the best Floyd albums
Nothing like a steaming hot pile of Kanosha to start a video.
*hears Kenosha, immediately goes to the comments*
You'd be surprised about how fast little driver engines can go, one of the Maine 2 foot 2-4-4s could supposedly do 70 and it had 30 something inch drivers
Just a tip I want to add, when the boiler runs dry, maybe it's best to wait until the fire is dropped to add water so that it's not, you know, *instantly turned to steam by the hot exposed crown sheet?*
I mean maybe
A.K.A C&O T1 #3020 moment
4:46 that's gonna leave a mark!
3:44 So that’s why smells like kanosha started playing 😂
Hanging on in quiet desperation, you say. I don’t quite think it’s time for that. I think it’s time you rethink your speed addiction. Great episode as always but I don’t quite have enough time to watch the whole video but the time is gone and I thought I had something more to say.
43:18 "Somebody out there knows that song" I certainly hope so... Pink Floyd's Time is a classic. Even I know it, and I'm more of a metalhead...
There was a joke some time ago in one of the RO Discords of the 'Party Bobber' where the train is going very fast down a grade, engine crew's making sandwiches while the caboose crew is just doing the Kazotsky Kick
Oh no, Kenosha within a minute... This should be fun :)
hey Hyce, if you are interested in UP's 4-12-2, Nebraska 66 has a great song about it called 'Nine Thousand'. if you haven't seen it, that and 'Roll On Big Boy' by them would be a great idea for a reaction video. always enjoy hearing kenosha before we even start!
Oh, there's also The Living Legend too!
At the end, I think you should go back to 2-12-2 because that's technically the loco you left where you left it.
If it was naturally spawned, then you left and came back, I'd say run the new arrangement (i.e. in the harbor roundhouse and it rearranges before you use it).
John doe has become canon in the HCU (Hyce cinematic universe)
fun fact, if you go into the job manager building, some where in there will be a couch that you can sleep in(skip the night)
Hears Kenosha just as the intro is being delivered: Ooh, good episode!
If it wasn't for the copyright issues with it, why felt it like a few bars of "Sweet Home Alabama" kinda were missing around 22:50 ?
Ref: 1:03:42 , would a train experience hydroplaning with enough downpour, or would it require standing water over the rails on not possible at all?
My final 2 cents on this episode, if there's no setting for keeping the train config, run what you got and thanks for all the laughs!
what do you mean about 22:50??
I don't think a train could hydroplane. The rails can't really hold water. You'd either be running through a flood or there wouldn't be enough water on them for it to matter.
@@Hyce777
It was supposed to be 22:48 I see now, the comment you had about the train complaining...
It's a darn poor excuse of a joke that I even managed to mess up...
Yes, I thought so about the hydroplaning.
It has to be a flooded track to have enough water for that to happen, while no sane train crew would ever go at speed towards a flooded track to find out.
I blame no filter on the brain after several days without good sleep, like now it's 4:52 a.m. and my alarm is set at 08:00 a.m.
Thank you for the reply, I'll crawl into bed again for a little more sleep.
Straight to Kenosha...
Well i guess we know what kind of day it's gonna be.
I’d love to see an oil burner or mechanical stoker get added to derail valley. Ether by a mod or officially.
Kenosha starts playing, at only a few seconds in
Amazing
21:45 Yes they do, it's just that you were standing on the tender, and not the locomotive.
... oh.
@@Hyce777 🤣🤣
6:05 why that DE6 was none other than the 1936 Spirit of Kenosha! How could you not drive it!

... Wait *what*
