- Welcome to the next video in my series, Unshuffled, where I make lists of my favorite music! In this episode, I am ranking the Big Big Train studio albums from "least favorite" to "favorite". Big Big Train have no bad albums, so please understand that these are just my personal preferences! Please share your rankings in the comments! There are no wrong answers here! I have original 1st pressings CD copies of 2002 "Bard" and "Goodbye To The Age Of Steam" (with his 1994 original cover 1st edition) and both albums are awesome, amazing ... different to David LONGDON's material but UNIQUES and SUPERB!!
"OUT-OF-PRINT" both, I know that... but, I think they can't be left out of the ranking, DoGor ...
Gregory Spawton, Jo Michaels, Martin Read, Tony Müller VOICES on those records are emotive and pleasant

Grand Tour is my 1st purchase and enjoy it very much!

I don't know how I stumbled upon BBT, but it was April 2020 at the height of Covid and after I heard the amazing East Coast Racer I got hooked.. To me that is the best Prog rocker of the Modern Era.!
I still need to listen to the first 4 albums though. Thanks for doing this ranking as you might be the only one on TH-cam who did!!!
I agree, East Coast Racer is magnificent. Glad you discovered them! It was super fun to do a ranking of their albums- they deserve to be better known! Hopefully I can at least shed a little bit of light on them.
The new album LIKES OF US is one of their best! I’m sure you’ve looked at it .. the two recent tours have been a triumph plus just now the US and CRUISE TO THE EDGE.

Ex-lead BBT lead vocalist, Sean Filken's solo album -"War and Peace, and other Short Stories" is a masterpiece, in my opinion.

IMHO The Underfall Yard is one of the best Prog Album ever.

Heared The Underfall Yard, hated It. Boring, reiterative, nothing exciting. A poor man's genesis. Heared English Electrc and It amazed me, maybe there is some talent here
Think this video will remain the most controversial when you're finished with this channel as in addition to not counting Full Power, you omitted Far Skies Deep Time as while they say it's an EP, it's the length of most albums and has an epic, The Wide Open Sea, that's as highly for some as TUY or ECR. Should've put that there instead of The Second Brightest Star as it's basically an album of extras. I myself do strongly prefer the separate EE albums as that's how they were originally released and both albums are the most perfect albums the last 10 years for length and song order. As for Full Power, the extras are just that, extras.
Surprised that you didn't think highly of the pre-Longdon albums as they do have strong prog elements that continued to this day and do cover English cultural topics, though not as direct.
Finally, as you desperately want to see them live but only if they come close to you, there is a saying: If it's important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.
Wow, did not expect this response! I think my love for the band is very clear in the video. I work hard to never be controversial. I stuck to the album listings on Prog archives and mentioned both Far Skies Deep Time and Full Power, albums I deeply love!
And not everybody has the budget for international travel! It would be an impossible expense for me at this stage. Oh well, sorry if this video was upsetting to you- I know you are a massive fan, so I thought it would be up your alley. 🤷♂️
@@NathanOnShuffle I'm not upset and the controversy doesn't stem from my opinions. It's what I thought the reaction would be if you posted this video on the BBT Facebook group where some Passengers will nitpick this stuff. Kind of like in posts about soccer mentioning that name for the sport, there will always be some that will retort "It's football. The world calls it football. It's played with the foot unlike what you Americans refer to what you call football."
And when it came to the band touring, I wasn't referring to making the trip internationally. It had to do with their aborted tour here last year where the furthest west they would have gone is Fort Wayne and so many commented that they weren't going to bother - even those in New York and Philly held off going to central New Jersey which was only an hour or so drive away and can return to their own bed before the night ends. Sure, some are unable to travel but it seemed from such comments that the band owed them a visit to where they live, even with the band's large size and expense.
@@WillHsiung Ok, thanks for clarifying, I suppose I misinterpreted the tone of your comment, sorry about that! You make good points, and now I’d be nervous to post this video in the BBT facebook group, ha! I may not prefer the pre-Longdon era of the band, but I thought I was pretty respectful in the video and tried to point out the things I do like about those albums, but I can see how that might not sit well with the BBT devotees. And, I even debated about the inclusion of Far Skies Deep Time and taking out Second Brightest Star as you suggested, but decided to just go with the studio albums listed on ProgArchives in an attempt to be LESS controversial…but it sounds like that might possibly backfire? Oh well, can’t win them all, I suppose!
As for touring, now I get where you are coming from. I was seriously debating going to RosFest just to be able to see them on the prior tour they were planning in the US, but it got cancelled before I could really figure out financially if it would work. I do hope they come to the West Coast in some capacity, but I would certainly consider traveling to see them if it was within a reasonable range to me where I could afford the trip (both the time off and the travel expenses).
Sorry again if my response came off a little negative, like I said, I think I misinterpreted your tone and the intention of your initial comment. I really appreciate the clarifying comment- it makes me feel a lot better about my video! I worked hard on it, and was concerned that it wasn’t going to be received well when I saw your comment! @@NathanOnShuffle I admit now that I shouldn't have said the video is controversial, probably should've said that if you posted that on the BBT FB page that I should get the popcorn ready. 🙂 From what I know about the upcoming US tour, they are planning to go to the West Coast so you may not need to travel. The question is when they will announce the dates as they've been promising that the last three months and acted like they felt certain to post that soon, but who knows now.
@@WillHsiung I hope they are able to announce those dates soon! It will certainly be a big 'news' item for me when they do! :)
