In the case of Tommy and the Amico, it feels like a mixture of both. However the sheer amount of delusion in this pitch (to the point where actually getting investors is adversely affected due to how unrealistic it is) suggests that on some level Tommy genuinely thought he could get this thing to a strong position to the point of being bought out. The sales projections alone are so damning to whatever potential credible appeal Amico might have had to outside parties that their existence has to be rooted in Tallarico believing his status was actually big enough to get this going. In a lot of ways its the worst of both worlds, just cynical enough to better swindle people out of money and so foolishly optimistic that the project has gone far longer than most scams do from just sheer inertia.

For the record that concert Tommy claims to have had "130,000 inside and 600,000 outside" (literally his words) in attendance took place in the Beijing Exhibition Center's theater which has a seating capacity of only 1000 and those '600,000 outside' weren't a crowd packing around the venue but a page view count on Chinese youtube where it was streamed for free. He's claiming an (at best 2000 standing) attendance he somehow inflated with Tommy bs power 65x what it actually was and 600,000 hits on a free stream counts as '700,000 people attending his concert.'
I would have LOVED to see these Intellivision clowns on Shark Tank or Dragon's Den sharing some of these absolutely batshit numbers. They would have been laughed off the show.
"Yankees Hall of fame minor league player". Why stop there? Why didn't Tommy release a game for the Amico entitled, "Tommy's Hall of Fame Minor League Baseball"? That would actually be an interesting spin off of the MLB baseball games, and I'm sure there are many minor league teams willing to sell their naming rights for cheap compared to their MLB counterparts.
A little background on Tommy's claim for an Emmy and a Telly. It was awards that Victor Lucas had won for the Electric Playground show that he ran for 20+ years and the Telly was awarded in 2001 to the show... Tommy had left the show early 2000 so he wasn't even part of the show when they had won. Also if you go on Tommy's own site under his awards section he also claims four separate Metroid Prime awards! As for the China concert, as per what folks in the discord have discovered. He had a few thousand people live at the show and the 750 000 number was from the people who were watching via a live stream. Long story short... Tommy likes to twist the truth and exaggerate and claim awards that he didn't win.
Intellivision fans sigh and say "here we go" whenever discussion comes up about that damn Amico. Toothless vanity project, fueled by avarice and ego straight from the ambitions of one Tommy Tallarico, integrity that melts under the slightest heat, like snow barely completed games that aren't fit to be shown, making podcasters get catty at prototypes that look shabby - clearly they're full of bugs, dragging the Intellivision brand straight through the false hype mud. Mattel sure is glad they have no connection to this - mismanaged brand revival console that's an obvious miss. Based on nostalgia, but the historical games from the 70's and 80's aren't on the list, just uninspired recreations that doom the project like Death's kiss. The Blue Sky Rangers can't scramble their fighters to stop this - there's a long line of partisans ready to blindly defend it. They were promised Tommy interviews and VIP access - But access to what? Access to one man's egotistical smelly butt? Project goals don't get met, but they toss it up to bad luck: "Trust us, we're an experienced company - but we're also a start-up." "Remember our old glory days? Well, we're back to delight the nation - but this is our first product, so please people, be patient." Make up your mind! I'm fed up! And the excuses don't add up. Blame coronavirus again? Dang yo, I've heard enough. Analogue Pocket made it out, I know, today I played mine today on the bus. Playdate shipped to gamers, so in Panic we know we can trust. And Evercade Vs. hit stores in a Blaze, that's the way you make a system for actual vintage games. Tommy wanted nostalgia, and he went all out, as you'd expect cause like in the old days, Intellivision got beat to shelves by VCS. The new Atari VCS is a joke with no future, day one - it was dead, but at least it tripped over the starting line before Amico could make it out of bed. Building a cult-like following, while legitimate interest tapers, no wonder low funds show on investment proposal papers. Point out Amico's problems and you get called a "gaming racist", because saying a video game sucks is the same as genocidal hatred. Tommy can't withstand hot takes, but says his critics are snowflakes, politicizing every little thing makes his game system look lame. Vilifies anyone that won't take a seat on his flat ride, while people who stayed on board, watch their pre-order dough get fried. All they had to do was make an Intellivision mini-system, make all the vintage games, playable on modern televisions, include overlays for replica keypad controllers, and retro gaming fans would keep the money in-going. But no, they had to be big shots, cause they have big roller ambitions, but making a product people want was never part of their mission. They made a solution to a fake problem about which no one complained, then accused Nintendo Switch of having sex abuse games. Wait? Really? Hold on - This story's bigger than King Kong, they spent German taxpayer funds on this damn bomb! Foxes are wild beasts, but "Finnegan Fox" looks tame, and they tried selling people empty boxes with no games - empty hope with nothing for the gaming public to see, a hustle Nick Wilde would size up and say, "No way, you lost me." They said, "Look at our games! You wanna play this today, we bet!" and when people weren't impressed, they said, "It's unfair to judge them yet!" Which is it Tommy? Between reality and his words there's a schism, every claim breaks apart like light through a bull prism. It's sad that Intellivision's main modern exposure, is bad drama, broken promises, and lack of composure. I'll play the classic games, and defend that strange old controller, but sticking up for Amico would be like trying to push a boulder. It would be exhausting, and unfun, so why even try? Intellivision Lives, but this brand mismanagement needs to die.
Pure truth right there. Sure the new games would’ve been ok, however the potential to use the console to update the classic titles was what would have made me buy one in a heartbeat.
Electric playground was the show him and Lucas did. Lucas is based in Canada so that’s why it would win those Canadian awards. I remember at some point repeats being aired on either GameTrailers or G4 in the early aughts and that’s how I first heard of Tommy?
@@bluedistortionsyes and it’s simply an incorrect statement. More nonsense from some TH-cam kid. Narcissism is a trait on a spectrum… we all have it to some degree. Narcissistic personality disorder does not equal “narcissism”.

You know it's a good day when the guys have Amico news to talk about 👏 Also I'm sure it's a great idea as a businessman in the *video game* industry to tell potential investors that you once played minor league baseball 🤣
That explains all the kick ass sports games they developed. Lol...didn't Keith Robinson say in the video game years that they went after the sports titles cuz no one else had the rights to them yet back in the 80s
As for the china concert; only 2,500 people were there in person. Over 700,000 were live streaming on Chinas version of TH-cam. Pretty sad to call Guinness for that one.
As someone in this state, I can easily see how Tommy got a foothold at Thanksgiving Point. This is pretty much the MLM capital of the world. Sadly I'm sure he took many households here for a ride
Exactly. Clearly Tommy's target consumer is anyone who bought a pillow from the MyPillow guy or people who buy coins from commercials on Fox News. I'm sure there were heated meetings about whether Utah or Florida should be the first targeted geographical area.
@Pat the NES Punk you may have seen already but the concert in question had 2,000 people there live with 750,000 watching on TH-cam or China's equivalent. He constantly says it was in the birds nest olympic stadium which isn't true, it was another venue and even claims 130,000 were inside with the rest listening outside which is a bare faced lie
I’ve been spending the last two weeks from through all her old episodes so that I can catch up on the news regarding this mess, and it has been amazing
As a person who makes decks for a living, I would send them away after page three. Investors who bought into this red flag laced deck deserve to have their money taken.
the deck is almost like a nigerian letter or a scam that on purpose has red warning signs to drive away reasonable logical people who would ask difficult questions and be expecting of logical answers.
I immediately though of that investor with the 2 dogs... Those who were conned into investing their nest eggs, chunks of retirements, kids' college funds, ect. are fucked. Keith is probably trying to get out of his grave because he is tired of rolling over. It's also a shame that the Intellivision name has been dragged through the waste processing plant and dropped in the E.T. pit. Kind of don't want to wear my Intelli controller shirt out anymore.
The toy Companies listed as potential acquisition partners have teams of EEs and SEs, plus networks of contractors, vendors and suppliers of who could design and develop a system like the Amico in matter of weeks. They would never need to "acquire" it. However, the reason they don't develop an "Amico" is because, 1 - they learned from 2000's era mistakes that the video game business is no longer the "toy" business and a video game system cannot be developed like toys are developed, and 2 - they know full well that modern, triple-A video game systems absolutely, 100%, compete with them for kids time and money.

Great informative and revealing presentation on I guess what is considered the 1st official leaks? But awesome show guys really hit everything right on and articulated in an elegant simple manner, great content
So pretty much this wasn't about bringing families together, wasn't about pleasing retro gamers and respecting the Intellvison name. What it was truly about was just an elaborate grift to get bought out by a bigger company.
Ironic that Tommy accused the rest of the industry for being predatory (even though it's true)... then saps money out of investors, swindles a bunch of TH-cam "buddies" (including a guy who gave 10 grand to the project), harasses anyone & everyone who dare question his authoritah, and continually lies his ass off for the next four years
You can STILL preorder the Amico at Amazon, Argos and Game here in the UK!! And they still have the 31 December 22 release date?!?! What the heck’s going on here? 😖😝
Speaking of the shitty treatment Tommy gave people on forums, that's literally just how he and cocreator of Earthworm Jim, Doug TenNapel treat people online, and they've both been known for it for ages now. If you go through old Earthworm jim fansites Doug frequented, they're notoriously rude to several people they don't like, and are basically age old internet trolls, from the very beginning.
I'm in my early 50s and I love the original Intellivision. My dad had one and now I have one, and I play it a lot. I play the Evercade Intellivision Collections a lot. I was hooked on the Amico at first. Believe it or not, Shark! Shark! is one of my favorite video games of all time. I absolutely love that game. Having said that, my wife is not a gamer, but she loves Shark! Shark! Outside of Frogger it's one of the few videos games she likes to play with me. The others are game show games on the Genesis and Mario Kart on the Wii, and that's it. Although she does enjoy Zumba games on the Wii. Just not with me. Lol. So you can imagine I was hyped for the Amico as a possible new toy to share with her, especially the new Shark! Shark! I thought she'd dig the motion control aspect as well. Thank God for Pat and Ian's coverage of this travesty. I gave up on the pipe dream and got my Founders refund last year thanks to them!
Omg, just when I thought we had hit the lowest of the lows. I thought this shit show could not possibly get more deplorable or laughable.... gaming's Fyre Fest/Theranos/WeWork, comes back with more lurid details. I honestly thought it couldn't get more crazy, and yet we got another glimpse behind this absolute lunacy. This document comes out and demonstrates such an enormous level of delusion that I have to question if Tommy Tallarico is actually living in our reality. From the percentage of global population the Amico would have to penetrate, to the incoherent graphs, to the insane sales projections and the minor league Yankees.....Hall of Fame.... thing that were noted as "major qualifications" that Tommy has either made up or bought to boost his ego, it's all so laughably bad. I honestly can't understand why any of these cultists ever believed this venture was going to end in anything other than a laughing stock or a scam. It is painfully apparent, this entire fiasco is was doomed from the get go. How anyone could see the inner workings of this scam and think "everything is fine" makes me question if they too were in on the scam. At this point I really wish a "Victory Lap" video was made just to get some closure and really highlight the bad actors in this disaster. The Intellivsion Amico should stand as a true example of the absolute worst there can be in the gaming. It is a scam in the truest sense of the word. All of those involved in this should be ashamed to have been apart of this shit show. To the "cultists" who took part in hyping this, they too should be taken to task for allowing it to get this far. To those who did get scammed I hope you get your money back, please be more leery when the next scam that prays on nostalgia comes around. Its become very apparent that scam consoles like this will continue to be a thing. I have to say thank you to Pat and Ian for always calling straight down the middle, and being critical when far too many are riding down the nostalgia powered hype trains to sit and analyze things in an objective manner. Sadly I get the sick sense we'll see more despicable and hilarious details come out. I really want to know what Tallarico had over Atari Age that allowed him to just treat it as his personal forum, I also want to know how each loan came about and lastly I want to know why in the hell no one stood up to Tommy and called him out on the BS, because last I checked your minor league avg and stats have nothing to do with running a gaming company. Hopefully we get those answers and many other questions answered some day soon.

He's claiming an (at best 2000 standing) attendance he somehow inflated with Tommy bs power 65x what it actually was and 600,000 hits on a free stream counts as '700,000 people attending his concert.'
Well he paid guinnes to say it was biggest live videogames music concert(japan has had some on tv with more views probably etc tho)
@@lasskinn474 yeah, Guinness isn't interested in accuracy. Purely pay for play.
@@g10118 also the function of listing actual sports records and such dead and it's basically a ripleys freakshow now...(owned by ripley)
What's sad is there are people still trying to defend the Amico, I think it is time to give up the ship.
Saw title. Omg I have to get a drink for this one. Proceed
I would have LOVED to see these Intellivision clowns on Shark Tank or Dragon's Den sharing some of these absolutely batshit numbers. They would have been laughed off the show.
The only way the Intellivion Amico will ever bring familiy and friends together is via photoshopped stock images.
I want to know where Tommy is now, he should be held accountable! Unbelievable he can be allowed to walk away $100k+ in hand!
The Lifetime achievement award for collecting the most box tops is something I strive for.
Yeah the ONLY age range that actually played the Intellivision is 40 and up... Man the amount of smoke he blew up our asses is insane!!
I'm kinda disappointed it's ending in a wimper. I expected Tommy to go down in a blaze of glory.
I dunno. He could always still be murdered or something. We can always hope.
Well, that's sort of the mystery. Tommy's a huge egotist. Where did he go?
But but but where video? :(
Intellivision fans sigh
and say "here we go"
whenever discussion comes up
about that damn Amico.
Toothless vanity project,
fueled by avarice and ego
straight from the ambitions of one Tommy Tallarico,
integrity that melts under the slightest heat, like snow
barely completed games that aren't fit to be shown,
making podcasters get catty
at prototypes that look shabby -
clearly they're full of bugs,
dragging the Intellivision brand
straight through the false hype mud.
Mattel sure is glad they have no connection to this -
mismanaged brand revival console
that's an obvious miss.
Based on nostalgia,
but the historical games
from the 70's and 80's aren't on the list,
just uninspired recreations
that doom the project like Death's kiss.
The Blue Sky Rangers can't scramble their fighters to stop this -
there's a long line of partisans
ready to blindly defend it.
They were promised Tommy interviews and VIP access -
But access to what?
Access to one man's egotistical smelly butt?
Project goals don't get met,
but they toss it up to bad luck:
"Trust us, we're an experienced company -
but we're also a start-up."
"Remember our old glory days?
Well, we're back to delight the nation -
but this is our first product,
so please people, be patient."
Make up your mind!
I'm fed up!
And the excuses don't add up.
Blame coronavirus again?
Dang yo, I've heard enough.
Analogue Pocket made it out,
I know, today I played mine today on the bus.
Playdate shipped to gamers,
so in Panic we know we can trust.
And Evercade Vs. hit stores in a Blaze,
that's the way you make a system for actual vintage games.
Tommy wanted nostalgia,
and he went all out, as you'd expect
cause like in the old days,
Intellivision got beat to shelves by VCS.
The new Atari VCS is a joke with no future,
day one - it was dead,
but at least it tripped over the starting line
before Amico could make it out of bed.
Building a cult-like following,
while legitimate interest tapers,
no wonder low funds show
on investment proposal papers.
Point out Amico's problems
and you get called a "gaming racist",
because saying a video game sucks
is the same as genocidal hatred.
Tommy can't withstand hot takes,
but says his critics are snowflakes,
politicizing every little thing
makes his game system look lame.
Vilifies anyone that won't take a seat on his flat ride,
while people who stayed on board,
watch their pre-order dough get fried.
All they had to do was make an Intellivision mini-system,
make all the vintage games,
playable on modern televisions,
include overlays for replica keypad controllers,
and retro gaming fans would keep the money in-going.
But no,
they had to be big shots,
cause they have
big roller ambitions,
but making a product people want
was never part of their mission.
They made a solution to a fake problem about which no one complained,
then accused Nintendo Switch of having sex abuse games.
Wait? Really? Hold on -
This story's bigger than King Kong,
they spent German taxpayer funds on this damn bomb!
Foxes are wild beasts,
but "Finnegan Fox" looks tame,
and they tried selling people empty boxes with no games -
empty hope with nothing for the gaming public to see,
a hustle Nick Wilde would size up and say,
"No way, you lost me."
They said,
"Look at our games! You wanna play this today, we bet!"
and when people weren't impressed, they said,
"It's unfair to judge them yet!"
Which is it Tommy?
Between reality and his words there's a schism,
every claim breaks apart
like light through a bull prism.
It's sad that Intellivision's main modern exposure,
is bad drama, broken promises, and lack of composure.
I'll play the classic games,
and defend that strange old controller,
but sticking up for Amico
would be like trying to push a boulder.
It would be exhausting, and unfun, so why even try?
Intellivision Lives,
but this brand mismanagement needs to die.
Pure truth right there. Sure the new games would’ve been ok, however the potential to use the console to update the classic titles was what would have made me buy one in a heartbeat.
Well that was just lovely
Slam poetry hour!
I imagine in an alternate universe Tommy appearing on Shark Tank asking for investment money and being laughed out of the room.
Happy Birthday! Amico, the gift that keeps on giving.
I couldn’t wait for an Amico update.
Tommy Tallarico - the first man in space.
When the first amphibian crawled out of the ooze and onto the comfort of the sand, was it a weird protofrog? Nope! It was Tommy T!
As a hall of famer, his own endorsement was likely the "partnership" for the MLB game.
It's about time, I've been waiting for something on the virtual company
Electric playground was the show him and Lucas did. Lucas is based in Canada so that’s why it would win those Canadian awards. I remember at some point repeats being aired on either GameTrailers or G4 in the early aughts and that’s how I first heard of Tommy?
Never saw him on G4TV but I remember hearing that him and Morgan Webb had a beef with eachother.
Narcissism is considered a personality disorder.
Doesn't mean anything.
@@bluedistortionsyes and it’s simply an incorrect statement. More nonsense from some TH-cam kid. Narcissism is a trait on a spectrum… we all have it to some degree. Narcissistic personality disorder does not equal “narcissism”.
I think Pat is just mad because he could never catch enough flies on frog bog
I went to summer camp five years in a row. Does that make me a hall of famer like Tommy?
Good job!
Tommy is just like Homelander, has the need to be loved by everyone but doesn't hesitate to lie and backstab anyone who disagrees with him.
When you award yourself something, that’s gotta be an empty feeling. What, are you just standing there with your dad’s bowling trophy, clapping for yourself? That’s called a fart in the wind, tommy.
You know it's a good day when the guys have Amico news to talk about 👏
Also I'm sure it's a great idea as a businessman in the *video game* industry to tell potential investors that you once played minor league baseball 🤣
But it wasn't even minor league. It was FANTASY camp.
Imagine paying to pretend to play baseball lmao
Investors, yes.
Especially if they lost their shirt on the deal...😏
But pre-orderers, no.
the deck is almost like a nigerian letter or a scam that on purpose has red warning signs to drive away reasonable logical people who would ask difficult questions and be expecting of logical answers.
The Little console that couldn’t
And wasn't
And _Shouldn't._
34 minutes in and I just noticed the Kirby scream painting
I immediately though of that investor with the 2 dogs... Those who were conned into investing their nest eggs, chunks of retirements, kids' college funds, ect. are fucked. Keith is probably trying to get out of his grave because he is tired of rolling over. It's also a shame that the Intellivision name has been dragged through the waste processing plant and dropped in the E.T. pit. Kind of don't want to wear my Intelli controller shirt out anymore.
When they make the book or documentary on this, it needs to be called "Wouldn't That Be Something".
I recently saw the Intellivision "unboxing" video, and flagged it to YT as a scam. Not sure if it means anything, but made me feel good. =)
Those slides are too small to read at 720p, so I appreciate you reading them out.
"Authors want to write; most people want to have written."
Tommy wanted the NYT best-seller without understanding what it actually takes to write one.
Tommy was writing in what he thought was Klingon (being disruptive), but it turns out he was writing in _Esperanto._ (Who cares?)
I like that quote
The toy Companies listed as potential acquisition partners have teams of EEs and SEs, plus networks of contractors, vendors and suppliers of who could design and develop a system like the Amico in matter of weeks. They would never need to "acquire" it. However, the reason they don't develop an "Amico" is because, 1 - they learned from 2000's era mistakes that the video game business is no longer the "toy" business and a video game system cannot be developed like toys are developed, and 2 - they know full well that modern, triple-A video game systems absolutely, 100%, compete with them for kids time and money.
Wouldn't Ian's birthday gift be NOT talking about Tommy for a week?
Tommy Tommy Tommy please stop shatting your diapers
Those sales projections are straight up bonkers. Holy hell
I got the highest score bowling of everyone at my 6th birthday party and I put it on my CV for all job applications. Okay, technically it was a best bowler trophy that the birthday boy always gets but that's just splitting hairs.
Great informative and revealing presentation on I guess what is considered the 1st official leaks? But awesome show guys really hit everything right on and articulated in an elegant simple manner, great content
With what Amico was aiming to be, the investors at this point are better off getting a refund and buying a Zeebo.
"We aren't in the same market as Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft"
"Our plan is to get bought by Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft"
make it make sense
So pretty much this wasn't about bringing families together, wasn't about pleasing retro gamers and respecting the Intellvison name. What it was truly about was just an elaborate grift to get bought out by a bigger company.
Ironic that Tommy accused the rest of the industry for being predatory (even though it's true)... then saps money out of investors, swindles a bunch of TH-cam "buddies" (including a guy who gave 10 grand to the project), harasses anyone & everyone who dare question his authoritah, and continually lies his ass off for the next four years
We ran out of popcorn so long ago, but this story keeps on giving! What a glorious disaster!
you know, if he wasnt trying to go for the retro market, why did he use the intellivision name?
@Dan Smith exactly my point. the hypocrisy of his presentation should have dried the investor cash up way sooner.
Because Intellivision was his personal trophy brand. He's added it to his collection of useless knick-knacks, like the basalmic vinegar collection.

What a great video. Also tell Ian it is my wife's birthday too!
You can STILL preorder the Amico at Amazon, Argos and Game here in the UK!!
And they still have the 31 December 22 release date?!?! What the heck’s going on here? 😖😝
Sheer abject laziness or a lack of penalty from those retailers.

Speaking of the shitty treatment Tommy gave people on forums,
that's literally just how he and cocreator of Earthworm Jim, Doug TenNapel treat people online, and they've both been known for it for ages now.
If you go through old Earthworm jim fansites Doug frequented, they're notoriously rude to several people they don't like, and are basically age old internet trolls, from the very beginning.
Still like Doug over Tommy any day.

I don't know how, they're exactly the same.

Plagued: An Amico Story.
I've been missing my Intellivision fix! 👌
Did anyone else start laughing maniacally when they saw the title of this video? This whole thing is a comedy of errors beyond belief.
“Every Man a King!,” an Intellivision Amico on every table.
13:24 This looks like the pretend game company I came up with when I was 12 on graph paper (those pencil drawn logos were TIGHT). Are we sure Tommy didn't raid my 12-year-old bedroom's junk drawer?
Don't forget he is a minor league Yankees Hall of Famer but only as a fantasy player for HOF.
@Dan Smith And a Fantasy CEO in LALA Land.
Thank you Pat and Ian for doing some awesome detective work on this sham of a company. Keep up the great work, love the show.
At least spell Capitol Records right if you wanna brag
Yep, I was annoyed by the occasional misspellings of this record company whenever I saw a video or two on VH1 of any artist signed to that label.
Was probably deliberate. He'll claim to have won a "Grammie" soon 😅.
Never forget, these are the clowns that misspelled “Intellivision “ when they tried to fake an unboxing video.
“That thing is massive in her hands.” Hehehe
> First to release video game music album...
I think that honor actually belongs to Yuzo Koshiro.. you know, the guy who did the music to Ys, Streets of Rage, Sorcerian, Etrian Odyssey, and other games
Doesn't could because it wasn't IN 'MERICA!!!!!! Yeah, Tommy is an idiot....
DJC will just flail around like the pant load that he his, about how this doesn't mean anything.
