Out of the blue I thought of Amico the other day, like a memory of a friend you used to be really tight with 20 years ago and had totally forgotten. Now this is here. Man, those few years everyone was dunking on Amico were really fantastic. In its own way, it really was a light in a lot of people's lives.
Still like to go and put on said coverage here and there as background noise when playing some video games that don't require complete focus lol. It's always fun with any product to listen to speculation and compare what came out and what didn't. In the case of Amico though it was always as Pat and Ian stated with the writing being on the wall. Then Tommy came and drew with markers...or other stuff and blew past expectations on how bad a company could be managed ( ironically not the worst we saw this year lol).
I love that Hbomberguy video so much. Really perfectly demonstrates that Tommy has gaslit the entire gaming world into thinking he's more important and loved than he actually is. I mean the only reason he even has a job right now is that he's running an event where other people play other people's songs while he takes credit for it.

I admit to buying Astrosmash on Steam. That was the one game that was supposed to come out on the Amico that I actually wanted to play. The game is actually pretty good. The only thing about it that infuriates me is that there is no "pause" function in the game. That's right... you CANNOT pause the game. They claim they are going to patch that but I'm not holding my breath. Didn't the company that was working on Moon Patrol go out of business? How can you redeem a code for a game that is no longer getting made? LMFAO.
Man. I remember when the whole thing was that Amico was Simple, and all the other consoles are complicated. Man, the absolute complexity of playing two players local on a console, where you simply connect another controller, or even just pop off the joy con and hand one to another person. Who wants to deal with that, when they can make sure they have three mobile devices, download specific software for each, register your account on each, and deal with more potential disconnects the whole time? Amico, where having a lot more steps to do something, that is one step on other consoles, is the Simplicity we all have been waiting for.

if you set up Amico Home on an android computer without a screen and then get a few cheap android devices to run the controller companion apps. Put them in a fancy shell. I'm certain this is basically the "Amico" they showed off at E3 that one year - the software on an android box, with phones. That's exactly what people were shown at that E3, and they're selling it now and pretending it's something new. But hey, now you can make your very own Amico! Just buy a cheap footbath. Open it, stick in an android device with the Amico Home software installed, and there ya go. If you want to really WOW the kids, put some LEDS on it too.
The footbath I have actually already has some lights you can turn in if you want, for that immersive Amico experience. On a side, note, I don't even understand how the company is still alive at this point. Didn't they say a couple years ago that they only had enough fundage to keep alive for a couple more months?
@@ZForceFFC Their audit said that about keeping the lights on, but they're all working from home now, so they have basically no overheads. They're probably paying very little for employees too, especially since practically nothing is being done. I know what Pat is saying when he says "only old collectors who already have every intelevision game they could ever want will even be looking at the amico" or "intelevision fans are all 40+" but I have to say it makes me feel pretty unseen lol. And look what not focusing on making the Amico console got you? Can't wait for Hbomberguy to finish what he started with you.
They are really only focused on Intellivision Hardcores, and other pre-crash Retroheads, right now. If these customers are willing to pay 5X the price for a game that is FROM INTELLIVISION, then why not price it 5X from what would be otherwise? Low sales? Oops! In terms of revenue, I just multiplied the sales by 5X. Wow, gawdddaaaaammmnnnn!!!
All of this is just so convoluted and ridiculous. If ANYONE designed this as product from the ground-up, from the beginning, they would have been laughed out of the room. None of it makes any sense at all as a product. I do think there is a place for physical gaming with physical media (ala The Switch), but Amico was not it, is not it, and will never be it.
Your videos on the topic are the best. Some really deep dives that go even deeper than HBomberGuy. Based on what you unearthed, I think if someone kept digging, they would find every single thing Tommy ever took credit for, right down to his supposed songs, were all stolen.
Pat and Ian: I have a question for you. I am not a gamer, nor do I know anything about this market, but because of Hbomberguy, I've been down a rabbit hole in the last 48 hours re: the Amico and their infamous former mascot. The Slopes Game Room documentary (I'm calling it a documentary) really interested me in the Amico fiasco even beyond that guy, and that's how I found your channel. You're both super knowledgeable and I love hearing you talk about what makes games good (It seems any video game company should hire you as consultants, if they know what's good for them!). I know from your videos that neither of you thought the Amico was a good idea from the beginning, but here's my question: If the company had taken that original $11million in kickstarter money, could they have made SOMETHING? I'm confused on why they haven't been able to produce SOMETHING by this point, even if it is not of the highest quality, or what they promised. I know the money was spent unwisely, on high dollar salaries and empty offices. Do you think they would have a product if they had put the money into development and materials? Or is it that Tallarico was always promising something that could never work, like a flying car? See, if I were on the hook for $11million, I might pay a small team of good developers to take the guts out of a PS5, or a Nintendo, or whatever's popular and *works*, put it into a pretty shell, redesign the code of the ten most popular games, and then given the backers *something*. The thing I'm observing is that people REALLY WANT IT. Maybe not enough people to sell in the millions, but maybe enough to build on? To garner enough good faith and consistent business to reinvest in better games and better technology in the future? I just have a really hard time understanding how that many millions in capital has resulted in NOTHING. The disappointment is palpable, and there are so many other working systems out there that it seems they could have produced *something*, even if it didn't work exactly as they promised before. I figured you both would have some idea about this, if anyone does. I love how passionate you are about the subject. Cheers.
Chances are they possibly could have made something but the real problem was they had the wrong people running the company and I doubt they even had a financial advisor
If you look at how their finances were set up, the plan was never to make anything. They never paid out for any software development. The hardware was just an Android in a box, done by a single engineer. Almost all the money went to salaries, investors with predatory conditions, and various schemes to more quickly drain the investment money, like renting a giant empty building to themselves. Just as an example, one director took a salary, took a building he had and rented it to Tommy, then took all that money and whatever else he had liquid and "loaned" it to the company at predatory rates so it grew astronomically in size. That's a triple dip that got him easily over a million in a year. That's how the money evaporated. The whole thing was a scheme from the beginning, not incompetence as people keep saying. Incompetent people don't get rich in these things. But evil people do pretend to be incompetent to avoid justice.
Giving away the games for free, but you lose the money from a refund, seems to be the point of these games. Probably a cheap way of getting people who don't read the fine print to be out of some money when the system gets canceled.
Why are you bleeping out swears? I watch for the realness you and Ian provide. Always have for years. Still love you guys and miss seeing your weekly videos. Happy holidays to you both!
Some other youtubers I watched talked about this briefly. If you swear in the first minute or so, the video can get auto-flagged and penalized somehow.
Wasn’t this joke of a ‘console’ supposed to release years ago? They’re always ‘just around the corner’ from release or funding. I’m pretty sure the more excuses they make for delaying, the more money they continue bleeding out. At what point do they say ‘if we want to release this, let’s freeze our pay and use it to launch this thing’. But nope.
I have to give you cred Pat for posting one of the best, mature and level headed to response on the charity matter. You are one of the very few who actually has made your thoughts open on such a serious matter while many remain silent, seemingly ignoring the damage this does to gaming charities as s whole. Rambling here but honestly, kudos Pat, been watching you for a long time and will definitely continue to do so. Thank you and keep it up!.... Shark Shark robbed at the VGAs
i'm assuming he posted something on twitter? don't know, can't view the site as i don't have an account. until he makes a video or brings it up on a podcast he's staying silent on the matter as far as i'm concerned. and he's had more than enough time to, so it's obviously not as big of a deal to him as the amico dead horse that he beats at every chance. kind of ironic that when it's one if his friends doing something way worse he essentially has no comment.
Wow. I remember when the Phantom and Indreama kept almost happening, until they didn't. At least the Ouya had a physical console release. Heck, it even had a year or two lifespan.
This seems like a way for Intellevision to recoup funds that Tommy lost when trying to get the physical console out and failed at it, I mean $15 per game is ridcouolous, one would think first it would be all in one, two offer at least one or two games free so you could get the feel for it and see if you like it or not, instead of paying $15 per game and if you feel if you don't like you now out of $15
Intellivision's last two emails have ended up in my junk mail so I didn't see them immediately. I think that about sums up this never-ending dumpster fire.
Not defending the Amico here, but I don't know if this is a fraud, or just a pipe dream idea that went sour fast. It started out with the promise that this would be some strange return to basics for gaming. With an easy to use gamepad and simple games for the whole family to come together, like the Wii after the Wii. But it seems like they went on a spending spree to buy a nice HQ for this company, but didn't have enough resources for R&D, or even game development. Now it seems like a chaotic freefall mess to save face. Everything about this seems so poorly managed. With no real foresight into how they would get from a pipe dream idea to a full product. Neat idea, if it all went to plan. The Amico has nothing that looks like a killer app. Maybe they could have teamed up with Roblox instead of attacking them? That could have been a draw. IDK.
It makes me laugh seeing how bad Intellivision has fumbled the ball of reentering the console world (i know I know they didn’t really MAKE their own console before, but let me have this.), versus, say, the current owners of Atari, with two respectable products under their belt, official new games and products for their original hardware, still releasing new games for their VCS system, and diving all in on the retro market, even buying many of the M NETWORK games that released on the 2600. I don’t trust Intellivision like I can trust Atari. Hell, I can’t trust Intellivision at all.
Amico stuff is hilarious as always but I just wanted to mention i chuckled still seeing the guru larry envelope stuck in the background. from tommy to larry to Famous Video Game Writer Bret Weiss, the bizarre menagerie of psychos, grifters, egos, losers and villains you two have attracted over the years really is something.
Creating a console is no easy task. But with the amount of money this pile received, and a product that was equivalent to an Atari flashback, it could have been done by competent high schoolers. The fact this couldn’t even make it to launch is an even bigger joke than the product itself at this point.
I wonder how scummy the inevitable ads are or will be in these games? Ad free? Tommy and Imtellivision tho... Again, I wonder how scummy those inevitable ads are or will be for these paid "games"? Crypto! Yay! Maybe those Medicare Advantage ads? Sure...
Pat, did you have to go through Lloyd's of London to make sure that amazing full collection of sealed Amico games is covered in case of a disaster? Do you ever lay all the boxes out and put on your bathing suit and a snorkel and jump into the pile, pretending that you're Scrooge McDuck, literally swimming in vast riches?

One that could not be filled by 1Up going to crap on its own Amico is here to fill the void in "bad retro gaming companies" that AtGames created by kinda-mostly getting its crap together (for the most part)

That's a triple dip that got him easily over a million in a year.
That's how the money evaporated. The whole thing was a scheme from the beginning, not incompetence as people keep saying. Incompetent people don't get rich in these things. But evil people do pretend to be incompetent to avoid justice.
A CUPodcast video covering the Amico has become a modern Christmas season tradition
Giving away the games for free, but you lose the money from a refund, seems to be the point of these games. Probably a cheap way of getting people who don't read the fine print to be out of some money when the system gets canceled.
You know, a hacked Switch can run Android. Can't wait to install Amico Home on a Nintendo product out of spite.
Why are you bleeping out swears? I watch for the realness you and Ian provide. Always have for years. Still love you guys and miss seeing your weekly videos. Happy holidays to you both!
probably because of youtube realistically. its a shame but it is what it is.
Some other youtubers I watched talked about this briefly. If you swear in the first minute or so, the video can get auto-flagged and penalized somehow.
Yeah I’m guessing it’s an auto flag issue
I really wish they would just make a new console with hdmi that plays original games like Atari has done with the 2600 plus.
Imagine if you registered, and they raised the MSRP price at launch
It’s like they’re just here to hand you guys gold-plated content. Im here for it😂
It’s so Joever.
Pat wrote a professional screed about Jirard the Professionalist.
That was well written and swayed me to disappointment in Jirard.
Price, games, features, and functionality considered this is likely the worst video game product to ever exist.
10+ Downloads says it all, really.
I don't think that Amico Home is a joke because a joke has to be at least entertaining.
$20.99 for these crappy games in Canada. Absolutely ridiculous.
But nope.
10 mins in and i swear pat has sworn more on this vid than he has all year (maybe even the past several years)
and it's 100 percent justified.
Shark Shark robbed at the VGAs
he should of made a video
i'm assuming he posted something on twitter? don't know, can't view the site as i don't have an account.
until he makes a video or brings it up on a podcast he's staying silent on the matter as far as i'm concerned. and he's had more than enough time to, so it's obviously not as big of a deal to him as the amico dead horse that he beats at every chance.
kind of ironic that when it's one if his friends doing something way worse he essentially has no comment.
@@manhattanmovies2173nah, he did the right thing
@@ng0249He posted a response on this TH-cam channel under the community tab. I doubt you'll take the time to read the lengthy post though.
@@ng0249it's also on the community tab 🤷♂️
Wow. I remember when the Phantom and Indreama kept almost happening, until they didn't.
At least the Ouya had a physical console release. Heck, it even had a year or two lifespan.
All I want for Christmas is a Founder's Edition
There’s a sucker born every Amico Home download.
Not sure why Harris would cover the Amico history when Dan's already done that...with very little overlap between the two videos.
OMG when will the Amico be gone for good? Enough already Intellivision.
Ian: "It's already a console!"
Intellivision: "Allegedly"
Is pat going to start selling reverse mortgages next?
Happy holidays guys. God bless.
Isn't intellivison putting games on mobile the very thing Pat and Ian said to do from the very beginning?
Yes, but not for $15.99 a piece. There aren't many games priced like that, and most of them are from Square Enix.
lmao, they void the refund. WOW!
I bought a VR headset today and it cost less than an Amico was supposed to. Brand new Meta Quest 2 for $250.
I remember being excited when this was announced. Glad I passed on this
Why would you be excited
They haven’t spent a nickel on advertising yet…haters! 😂
Does RexMD come with front row seats to Rex Viper?
This seems like a way for Intellevision to recoup funds that Tommy lost when trying to get the physical console out and failed at it, I mean $15 per game is ridcouolous, one would think first it would be all in one, two offer at least one or two games free so you could get the feel for it and see if you like it or not, instead of paying $15 per game and if you feel if you don't like you now out of $15
My favourite youtube channel, i hope this goes on forever 🎉
Intellivision's last two emails have ended up in my junk mail so I didn't see them immediately. I think that about sums up this never-ending dumpster fire.
How about those gift cards they call games they sold for $150? Are those going to work with Amico home?
Hi guys! I check once a year. When’s the Amigo coming out?
IDK.
Where else are u going to get a deal like this.
Buying the games was important. For this bit. Waggling them about whilst swearing at them
So, how long ago are we thinking they started working on these apps? A year? Two at most? Hilarious.
It's the gift that keeps on giving
appropriately seasonal
It makes me laugh seeing how bad Intellivision has fumbled the ball of reentering the console world (i know I know they didn’t really MAKE their own console before, but let me have this.), versus, say, the current owners of Atari, with two respectable products under their belt, official new games and products for their original hardware, still releasing new games for their VCS system, and diving all in on the retro market, even buying many of the M NETWORK games that released on the 2600. I don’t trust Intellivision like I can trust Atari. Hell, I can’t trust Intellivision at all.
Pat, hbomber, matt mcmuscles . Cant wait to see it all unfold
Has Matt ever covered the Amico?
Can this be useful with Android TV and a few controls?
Amico stuff is hilarious as always but I just wanted to mention i chuckled still seeing the guru larry envelope stuck in the background. from tommy to larry to Famous Video Game Writer Bret Weiss, the bizarre menagerie of psychos, grifters, egos, losers and villains you two have attracted over the years really is something.
If Keith Robinson was alive and re did intellivision as he envisioned, this would be better
Creating a console is no easy task. But with the amount of money this pile received, and a product that was equivalent to an Atari flashback, it could have been done by competent high schoolers. The fact this couldn’t even make it to launch is an even bigger joke than the product itself at this point.
Ian aging like warm milk on a sunny San Diego day
I see pat and Ian talking about Amico, I gotta click!
Partnership with hot wheels? Wouldn't that be something....
… I just… how… how do you flub a basic smartphone game…
I’m almost impressed at how badly they mess up every time they pop up in the news
They're still on the launch pad!😂
They just need the fuel…
This right up there with zx spectrum Vega scam
"Grandpa Brown" wtf?? 🤣
Gutter line is a gut-buster
Lmao these games are absolute trash! If you can even call them games.
Hello Guy Sorry for Possible Bad English that's Not My Native Language i'm From Brazil and I'm Wanna talk About the Amico. in Theory From My Perspective of Missing the Saga Until 2022 or 2023 only Heard about the announcement and Moving On, the Amico In Poor Countrys if Following the Theory of Being a Cheap Console Could Havve Work Especialy If the Games based of Good Old and Forgotten Franchises were True. BUT Given From My Perspective of Finding Out About the Console And Tommy Tallarico Who i have Friends on the Low Tear Brazilian Retro Gaming TH-cam Scene (When i Say Low Tear i mean they Have Low Numbers Like Most of Us Myself Included That's not reflective about they as a person or Video Quality) And i Find Out Most about This in English Speaking Channels Because Brazilian TH-camrs Most Or Cover the Annouciment in the Very Start or Never Talked About it and Only One Channel Talked About the Drama at the Time they Went Silent
pat channelled his inner Steve Martin as the Man with two Brain... Duels.
MY original intellivision stil works.....So does my hardware.....i guess I won't need what's in the promotion
Look. when AtGames went from being the worst Retro Gaming company to "fairly adequate" (though, their Arcade Cabinets and Virtual Pinball Tables are some of the better ones on the market in their current price range) it clearly left a power vacuum. One that could not be filled by 1Up going to crap on its own
Amico is here to fill the void in "bad retro gaming companies" that AtGames created by kinda-mostly getting its crap together (for the most part)
RIP Intellivision
