"If we can't go off of what you've put out to the public then what good is what you're putting out to the public" This is a very good point from Ian. I've lost track of the number of times I took Tommy's used car salesman style marketing weasel words at face value and some Amico superfan replied to me essentially calling me a moron for not being hooked directly into the weird AtariAge echo chamber forum thread which is apparently the only place Tommy feels comfortable giving anything approaching straightforward information.
I actually just joined atariage on Facebook and it's overwhelmingly a amico supporting group and a Pat bashing group. To the point where I just don't get it, so I put them on mute.
@@JasonVectrex_187 What's bizarre is that Pat/Ian praised AtariAge over the Coleco Chameleon (and the other way around). Pat and Ian posted in that thread. It's where the 'sandwich' meme came from.
@@robthemodYT I've noticed that a lot of what goes on in atari age is advertising hone brews or channels and people rubbing each other's shoulders. More so than in other groups I was in. Thoroughly entertaining. One of your best discussions in a long time. I was highly engaged throughout. The console is a complete farce, you did your research and broke it down for everyone as to why that is.
I had hope for this. But $300 and those under power specs.. For that kind of money Just buy a good andriod tablet with 3 or 4 gbs of ram and download retroarch.
With all the tech bigwigs on his team, you would think someone woudl have said to Tommy at the very beginning, "Keep It Simple, Tommy"? The whole project is lacking focus and proper planning, and needed more time for prototyping before launching the kickstarter. They promised to make a product before knowing what they were going to make, and this is what happens when you are building "on the fly". I think people and investors bought into Tommy's charm, which as a saleperson is a golden asset to have. And his tale to becoming a video gaming music celeberty is a major "trust" selling point. But that salesperson needs a product and team behind him to delivery on his promises. In short, what Tommy needed from the beginning was project manager with the power to tell Tommy, "No! We are not doing that until x, y and z are done." I like Tommy's "go get 'em!" additute. But he bit-off more than he can chew here. I would like to know if someone said to him, "Tommy we need time to refine what we are doing, otherwise this will be a mess" at some point. I feel someone probably did but was overruled.
My theory on the price point is that they're also trying to cover r&d costs. It reminds me of when the PS3 came out and they were selling them at a big loss because of how expensive the blu-ray drives were back then. Sony could do that because they had the cheddar, but Tommy only has a sprinkle of parmesan.
Some kid is gonna ask for a Switch or a PS5 or Xbox for Christmas and their parents are going to get them this instead. Then next Christmas they’ll ask again and their parents will say “Why would we get you a Switch when you have a perfectly good Amico?”
I just found out the base Amico is $339 Canadian 😯 for $60 more you can buy a Nintendo Switch. $339 is insane, nobody is going to pay Switch prices for the privilege of playing cell phone games. This whole console reeks of arrogant leadership.
@@nicholasvalentino4378 nothing says the Amico can, they hid the footage during the E3 presentation by having a girl swinging a cell phone and blocking the TV 🤣
I just love how Tommy sells the Amico on family entertainment, when the Nintendo Switch has been selling the system on people playing together on every commercial for it since day one.
Yeah there's no way with a price like that any Canadian would buy this over a Switch. Especially when a Switch Lite is cheaper in Canadian Dollars and has a better library.
I still like Pat's original idea of taking all those LEDs, putting them on a toaster, having the toaster play music, and then having it announce to everyone in the room when the toast is almost done. Let's get some productive use out of those LEDs please. :) Anyway, Pat and Ian rock. Please keep up the good work. :)
Honestly, what I want to see is the Amico crusaders just biting the bullet and admitting they got caught up in the hype. Just swallow that pride and admit you were mistaken, then move on.
Two things Pat, Ian was right tommy said retailers told him to raise the price of the amico so it wouldn't be thought of as a flashback console. The other thing is that tommy is lying about Cara Acker. She no longer works for the amico but name is still listed as an employee.
Ian: "he wants to make a system as cheesy as he is" Burned!! :) :) :) Also if the controller only has 1mb of usable memory, that kind of explains why there's so much lag on this thing. With so little space to work with it will likely never be completely fixed.
Well, I guess Video Games Live and his video game career may be tarnished now that Tommy has been shown to be a more shady businessman or simply an snake oil salesman. What a shame.
Pat you can feel validated. RTU has an unlisted video trashing the amico more than you guys. He also admits he was too soft on tommy. And now tommy has brushed him off.
@@PatTheNESpunk But this is validation that you were right from day one. That you were not trying to use the amico as the next chameleon. That you didn't have an axe to grind against tommy. That you were just reviewing a new console that's it that's all.
I thought this was vaporware and gone. Then again, the VCS somehow came out. If this isn't a scam, this is going to be a major disaster. I'll save my money and buy that mini Neo Geo cabinet.
I'm going to tell you what the problem is: this is not the 80s any longer. You can't just get a bunch of off-the-shelf parts, put them together into a plastic enclosure and call it your console or home computer system and expect people to fork out 250 bucks for it. Games are much more complex and expensive to make, and people expect a lot more from those machines. Unfortunately, releasing a console is a "game" for big corporations like Sony, Nintendo and MS.
They at least have enough 1st party development teams to put out something people will want, or the money to buy exclusivity rights for a year or whatever. Heck, Microsoft forked out billions for Bethesda's parent company. No idea who really wants to fork out $250 usd for this "console", but it'll have some value later as a collector's item, maybe the price would be worth it? You know there won't be more than like 10 thousand of these made anyway.
Even better, a Switch Lite costs $199, so the Amico is MORE expensive than a Switch. And the Switch has thousands of games you can play and download now.
Low specs COULD mean cheap price which could mean larger audience which could attract devs... if this was done competently. Consider Game Boy, GB was king of handheld for almost a decade despite lack of color and backlight. Games sell a system... and Amico lacks a killer app.
I like watching train wrecks, it's so exciting ;) I can't believe so many people actually jumped behind his BS for monetary support and free advertising through shilling.
Lemme get this right. The people who complained about the price of the VCS not matching it's specs are now defending a 5 year old $100 phone in a $250-$300 shell?
I agree with Ian. I was targeted by this product, despite what Tommy says. Which is why he is all over retro channels and not tech/mobile channels. We all knew this day was coming. Those who are surprised either still don’t know what this is, or took a Ferrari ride, invested $10,000, then buried their head in the sand. I can’t wait for the excuses.
Tommy is an embarrassment of a CEO, he should step down. His fan club can't deny the technical specs, it's pathetic. You have to ask, are they buying a console or a fake friendship with Tommy, a man who received millions in "investment"? Nobody is above scrutiny. It's a different ball game now. These clowns went after Pat and other TH-camrs and were high fiving each other on their dunks, now the bigger media outlets are asking the questions, and the juvenile insults go nowhere and make their cult look even more childish.
Funny how someone says a certain podcast duo has an IQ of 12 yet they edit videos for RTU even though he just basically shit on the system and the Amico shills for almost 2 hours recently.
At E3 in either '96 or '97, I ran into Tommy's entourage a few times on the show floor. He was always wearing a blinding glittery suit and surrounded by a bunch of guys who seemed like they were having fun, and were much taller than him. I sat next to Victor Lucas of Electric Playground during the '97 keynote, and Tommy wasn't there, so I assume he was at the show representing Tommy Tallarico Studios because of all the soundtracks he was working on.
WOW. **TWO** gigs of RAM!?! 😱 The common wisdom that I've heard bandied about is that on modern devices, Android requires a minimum 4 gigs of RAM to run smoothly. And I can tell you that I'm watching and writing this on an okay, serviceable Lenovo tablet with 4 gigs of RAM that sometimes really chugs. I can feel it heat up noticably, depending on what I'm doing.
Idk how the GPUs compare, but I know that I can't watch YT at 1080p60fps, it loses so many frames when I try. Also, a Sanpdragon six-two-whatever was the mid-power chip from a few years ago. Which makes sense for when they started working on this...
Whoa - a $100 ZTE phone from 2016 being a decent comparison is a lower bar than I was thinking, even. I know they said that's a lower benchmark, but I was picturing it being mid-tier 2018 tech...
Nobody wants this mess , I don't know why they want to bring this mess out , that mess looks like something a grand ma would buy their grand kid off of QVC
It's incredible how Tommy kweps defending his feces. I mean he's now trying to tell people that people say using stock photos ia illegal, no Tommy, it's just misleading to modify these photoa to make it seem like your product functions in an entertaining way.
@@poboxchristmas380 Well, I'd choose a turkey sandwich over TWO Amicos...since we're going down that path. However, Tommy wants to get the casuals. Casuals prolly don't want the mini consoles for the same reason they won't want the Amico. Both old games on old systems. One with far superior games, but both old. Old guys like me might pick up a mini console to relive my youth for 30 mins or so, but thats about it. Kids will want the Switch and all the awesome games on there. Families can play the dufus games it has for them (Mario Party, Pack-In crap, etc.). I guess my point is: Why go oldskool when you can get the new toys for the same price? Nevermind the games, which makes it a no brainer. Why get an old tech item when you could have a new one for the same price?
@@randohuy9446 I think you just proved the whole issue with Amico and it's the same thing that everybody ends up concluding: Who is the Amico actually for? Nobody knows the answer because Tommy and his cult are so deceptive and continue to try and force narratives onto the public. Tommy says their system is not trying to compete with current gen systems, he keeps saying that they don't have the 'gigaflops' of big name systems, yet he charges higher prices than the more powerful, better built systems. We are told that Amico is a 'toy' that is intended for 'very small children', however the entire fanbase is old men who hoard games. Their marketing strategy is complete and utter trolling.
So the Amico is a glorified bowl movement? SHOCKER! No wonder it had performance issues during the gameplay demonstrations. Low end Android hardware from 5 years ago isn't exactly speedy.

You guys should do an ongoing playlist of your Amico coverage. Spent hours watching your Amico videos going back to 2017-18? Absolutely right and justified since the very first thoughts video. The backlash is so dumb.
It's becoming an educational series in that you hear about Tommy's mistakes and walk away with lessons on what to do and not to do in the gaming industry. Pat, you could repackage the content into a 1-hour talk at a convention, or even write a book. If you and Ian team-up together on the book, it could be an insightful read.
Is there a back story behind this? The guys are getting a bit personal with Tommy here. It seems like there was an incident between them. I don’t see this much coverage on the Polymega or Atari for instance. Granted the Atari is out and has been delivered to backers and it’s coming out in stores. Even though it’s a subpar mini PC in an Atari package.
They were one of the first to talk about this a few years ago and were skeptical about it which made Tommy "upset" to say the least about what they had to say.
What I really don't understand is that this is supposed to be made for more casual gamers and family gaming, but how is that target demographic even going to know this system exists? The only people that seem to even know about it are gamers (and even then, many do not). I don't really get how they are planning to reach that audience and convince them to purchase this. They can't really count on a casual gamer seeing this in a store and impulse buying a $200 system. I also don't think the Intellivision name holds any nostalgia for anyone under like 40 years old.

Personally I don’t think I played an emulated version of Genesis Virtua Fighter on a compilation enough times.

@@EvaFull oh I'm Definitely listening to this one again..!! 🤣👍 lol
"If we can't go off of what you've put out to the public then what good is what you're putting out to the public"
This is a very good point from Ian.
I actually just left Atariage because it's too high of a percentage of people that have hidden motives and not as much just about gaming, like the vectrex group I'm in.
I'm really looking forward to getting the Amico... for $1.99 in the bargain bin like the 32X.
I can confirm that non-binary people, also, enjoy humor.
We are not doing that until x, y and z are done."
I like Tommy's "go get 'em!" additute. But he bit-off more than he can chew here.
I would like to know if someone said to him, "Tommy we need time to refine what we are doing, otherwise this will be a mess" at some point. I feel someone probably did but was overruled.
Rich is a shilling fake. “Any way the wind blows rich” should issue a public apology to you guys
Nice analogy
I watched the Giant Bomb reaction to the Amico E3 thing. They were shitting all over it.
Tommy reminds me of people who do one thing great and think they can do everything great.
Yeah, but name another console that let's you play Cornhole 😂
@@nicholasvalentino4378 nothing says the Amico can, they hid the footage during the E3 presentation by having a girl swinging a cell phone and blocking the TV 🤣
I just love how Tommy sells the Amico on family entertainment, when the Nintendo Switch has been selling the system on people playing together on every commercial for it since day one.
Play cellphone games BADLY. This thing is running low end mobile hardware from 2015. That's why everything is a laggy mess.
Yeah there's no way with a price like that any Canadian would buy this over a Switch. Especially when a Switch Lite is cheaper in Canadian Dollars and has a better library.
Oh boy, this is gonna be good! After the Caleco Camelon cluster@#$%, I never doubted you - Pat and Ian on this, too many red flags!
I grimaced at the snap dragon as i wouldn't go below 800 series for my phone's for like past 5 years wow
I still like Pat's original idea of taking all those LEDs, putting them on a toaster, having the toaster play music, and then having it announce to everyone in the room when the toast is almost done. Let's get some productive use out of those LEDs please. :)
Anyway, Pat and Ian rock. Please keep up the good work. :)
Jeff's reaction on Giantbomb about the Amico was maybe my favorite hot take. Literally laughing at the whole E3 showing.
Honestly, what I want to see is the Amico crusaders just biting the bullet and admitting they got caught up in the hype. Just swallow that pride and admit you were mistaken, then move on.
@CoffeeMan I'm with you. I can't see them admitting at this point. They are in total denial.
It's like Trumpers or Hillary-Stans but with video games. 😑
RIP Reviewtechusa's credibility.
He never had any.
Two things Pat, Ian was right tommy said retailers told him to raise the price of the amico so it wouldn't be thought of as a flashback console.
The other thing is that tommy is lying about Cara Acker. She no longer works for the amico but name is still listed as an employee.
The Amico is a phoney just like it's carefully curated comment section on their videos.
Lol yeah you're not wrong there dude..!! 😆
Emphasis on PHONEy
Ian: "he wants to make a system as cheesy as he is"
Burned!! :) :) :)
Also if the controller only has 1mb of usable memory, that kind of explains why there's so much lag on this thing.
Rich is a giant piece of shit interested solely in self-preservation.
I feel like it took WAY too long for him to realize...

I thought this was vaporware and gone. Then again, the VCS somehow came out. If this isn't a scam, this is going to be a major disaster. I'll save my money and buy that mini Neo Geo cabinet.
An absolute processing beast under the hood of this console.
For 1979, sure
Best part about this was Tommy quickly tweeted that a lawsuit was incoming to Sam. He immediately got shit on and deleted his tweet an hour later 😂
Might as well just dust off the ol original Intellivision, probably has more processing power.. just install some LEDs on it yourself lol
I'd gladly take an Intellivision 1 or 2 over that junk any day.
Good luck playing Cornhole and Dolphin Quest on that old piece of junk.
When this comes out and inevitably fails, the Tommy redemption tour blaming it on bad pre-launch publicity is going to be equally embarrassing
They are already coming. The specs don't matter because it's all about fun. Tommy snapped because he has passion.
The device will sell units. Undoubtly. Tommy's charm alone will sell units. Will it be enough for a ROI for investors?
@@andywolan Sell units as in 40k-50k yes. 250k-300k no.
NOTE: While typing this #CUPodcast comment, Tommy Tallarico has publicly threatened legal action against Ars Technica.

Why does it feel like Tommy spent more on the light effects show than on the shell of the console?

I hate hearing about the Amico but I love hearing about the Amico...gluten for punishment I guess. Interesting fact, the Atari VCS actually released
Wow! What an amazing break down analysis guys! Great job! 👍
Does it surprise you that a guy who still rocks Ed Hardy wants to make a bedazzled console?! 😂
Ed Hardy is still a great clothing line. Like Polo it's never out of style. 50 years from now people will style rock Ed Hardy. Oof. 🕺
WOW.
**TWO** gigs of RAM!?! 😱
The common wisdom that I've heard bandied about is that on modern devices, Android requires a minimum 4 gigs of RAM to run smoothly.

It really doesn't hold up.
It was fine for what it was, but definately not a console seller for me.
Why would I buy this when I just got a surprisingly compatible android tv box for my tv for $20?
I can't believe I'm saying it but the most surprising thing is rich turning heel and attacking "Amico Shills" on Twitter 😂😂
I really want Tommy to succeed but everything sounds like disaster with this console.
Maybe it was all about selling the Story and not the Console.
The real console was the friends we made along the way? :D
hahaha Good one :D!
It's incredible how Tommy kweps defending his feces.
I mean he's now trying to tell people that people say using stock photos ia illegal, no Tommy, it's just misleading to modify these photoa to make it seem like your product functions in an entertaining way.
I think even Pixel Pat's tired of Tommy's bullcrap at this point
Bottom line: Why choose this product over a Switch?
Why choose it over a Sega Genesis Mini?
@@randohuy9446 I think you just proved the whole issue with Amico and it's the same thing that everybody ends up concluding:
Who is the Amico actually for?
Predictions:It's gonna be garbage, not all of the units will go out, only some. But theyll be garbage, the screens wont work right, the shit will feel cheap, and Mr Clown Shoes himself will be saying how only a few people in a batch of 500 will get one. I dont think he can delay and piss off investors any longer. He'll at least be able to say 'i tried! It's out isnt it guys??" and the reviews will devour it alive, thus being added to everyone's top 5 worst consoles ever made lists forever. Amen.
If only he would be shamed and jailed for false advertising.

Tommy called them Gaming Racists.
Ian was totally checked out of this convo by the end lol
I feel so bad for the Intellivisionaries podcast guys getting roped into this. Its such a damn disaster on every level.
Wow, imagine that. Also, yikes.
