@@mandomerlie1997I’m a big fan as well… but, calling (anything) THE absolute best NFL content is a bit ambitious haha. Can’t knock him for his effort though. The dude is a machine
Fun little note on defensive coaching trees. Technically, the Fangio tree is the Mora tree. He got a lot of his stuff when he was coaching under Mora and Steve Sidwell. He also got a lot of stuff from Rex Ryan.
Here is my take on what went wrong for the Commanders last year: 1. It started with training camp. Rivera let Bienemy change up the practice schedule and routine quite a bit. The players worked harder than they had in Rivera's first three years. Overall I think it was a good training camp, the joint practices with Ravens went well. But it is worth noting the players worked harder and were expecting a payoff. If the payoff failed to materialize it could lead to trouble. During the season the Washington Post (I think it was Sam Fortier though it may have Nicki Jvhabla) wrote an article about how some players were unhappy with the work -life balance under Bienemy. Bienemy had very long offensive team meetings and players were staying a hour to two hours later than in previous years at teh facility and resented it. Again, if it leads to success, players will buy in, but when you working harder, putting in more hours, and then fail, it can cause a loss of confidence in the coaching staff. 2. I think in an under the radar off season change, the Commanders lost one of their best position coaches, Chris Harris to the Tennessee Titans. They replaced him with a coach who had no experience as a position coach than was handpicked by Jack Del Rio. Both Del Rio and the secondary coach got fired midseason. Harris' lost hurt in multiple ways. I feel like after spending our first and second round on DB's (Forbes and Martin) we had our weakest position coach developing them. However it also affected Del Rio. Harris would listen to the DB's and take their complaints to Del Rio. Sometimes players felt the coverage rules were too complex and Harris championed their concerns and got Del Rio too modify things. The secondary coach didn't do that and since he was handpicked by Del Rio probably would have been unlikely to challenge his mentor. 3. Sam Howell was limited. I am higher on Howell than Marcus. But he had limitations. His pocket presence was not good and his processing was ify. I think he was overwhelmed at points and seemed to hit a wall and regress as the season went on. 4. Eric Bienemy didn't do a great job: Its not that Bienemy called terrible plays. It is that he did not design an offense that took into account the context of the Commanders offense. We threw a higher percentage of the time than any team despite having a 22 year first year starter at QB. He called decent plays but they were not plays that came with an easy button. He was close to amongst the bottom in the league in use of motion and other things to create mismatches and confuse the defense, so while the plays had answers they required Howell to read the defense rather than say read one defender. He just didn't run a good offense for a green QB. With a more experienced QB it probably works better but being the most pass heavy offense combined with using very few easy buttons put Howell in a tough situation. Plus it was one of the worst pass blocking O-Lines. It wasn't a bad offense in an abstract sense, but it was a bad offense for that team.
I think one thing TFG missed is that staying in college for 5 years and getting that extra experience coming into the NFL is not a bad thing that shows a low ceiling. That experience can be a benefit heading into the NFL and make the transition easier… Whether a player is 21 or 24 they’re still young and they will get better at the next level if they put in the work
He definitely fell in love with Drake Maye and scouted Daniels with an emphasis on his deficiencies. It’s always weird how these TH-cam analysts pick and choose which guys are capable of improving and which aren’t. The assumption was that Drake Mayes flaws will magically be fixed while Jayden’s wont
Love it. You inspired me to do my own version of Deep Dives and last year it was a lot of fun, and this year same thing, tons of work but tons of fun. Dealing with fan bases was awesome, especially Panthers fans (who I got to do a lot of "told ya so" with them, especially with the coaching staff). Hope my channel grows big enough one day that you will be willing to collaborate on one of these. And...as a Giants fan, awesome to see Washington dead last. Respect brother!!
I am probably going to have a dozen posts, but my first post is on coach and scheme section. My first issue with this is Marcus quote is "A lot of people kind of laughed when Kliff got this job because he did such a bad job in Arizona" I am a Commanders fan, not a Arizona fan, therefore, I cannot speak to the context of what happened with that Arizona Offense when Kliff was the HC. However, I can pull up stats and in the four years he was the HC, they really only one bad offense, which was his last year and maybe because that is his last impression, it what people remember. But here are the scoring stats and yards per game stats for the Arizona offense from 2019 to 2022 when Kliff was the coach. I don't think they are bad. 2019 Scoring 16th 22.6 ppg Yards per game 21st 341.7 ypg 2020 Scoring 13th 25.6 ppg Yards per game 6th 384.6 ypg 2021 Scoring 11th 26.4 ppg Yards per game 8th 373.6 ypg 2022 Scoring 22nd 20.0 ppg Yards per game 22nd 323.5 ypg Marcus's comment surprised me because I didn't think anybody laughed when we hired Kliff. I kind of assumed most people would judge him as having been middle of the road in Arizona and I think the stats back up the argument that he was middle of the pack.
John Keim did an interview with an Arizona Cardinals beat reporter, John Weinfuss, after we hired Kliff. After listening to the interview, I think the big question I had is will Kliff Kingsburg be effective at making in season adjustments to the office. Weinfuss said over the four years in Arizona, Kliff's offenses usually started the season off strongly. He had added in wrinkles every year and the the offseason always seemed to have a good month or two before fading into the second half of the season as defenses figured out Kliff. Kliff was the HC of the Cardinals. He is the OC of the Commanders. The questioin, did Kliff struggle keeping the offense fresh for the season because he was the HC and had time constraints or is it something he just struggles with, or maybe a bit of both. Time constraints should be an excuse for him in Washington, he is the OC not the HC and probably will probably be freed of 3 to 4 hours ofo stuff a day that is HC stuff that he can spend on the offense.j The interview can be found on Yotuube just search John Keim and John Weinfuss (I am not going to link it because if I do, TH-cam will hide this comment)
When Marcus is talking about Jayden Daniels he said for some reason most SEC defenses used single high defenses vs. Jayden Daniels rather than two high. My thought is that they ran single high to get an extra defender on the box. In the run game as Marcus says, Daniels ability to run means the defense has to assign a defender to him meaning they have a numbers advantage. Putting another safety in the box helps the defense with the numbers game. Against the pass, using a single high makes it easier to rush four and spy Daniels. It seems like it would be significantly harder to spy Daniels in two high. So my instinct is that it was the threat of Daniels legs that lead to the pleathora of single high coverages. I listened to Jay Gruden talk about Jayden and Drake before the draft. He thought Drake had the higher ceiling but Jayden could hit the ground running better. He said Jayden could hit the ground running better for two reasons--first his fundamentals are better, second his running ability will allow the OC to scheme up the pass game more. He didn't go into detail, but I am thinking that he meant it would force them into vanilla single high as the team will try to run the ball down the throat of the defense if they play two high with the numbers advantage.
Love the before and after snap %, before and after comparison, and cautious assumptions about rookies. A very high percentage of rookies seem to struggle at most positions in their first season. WR seems to be one of the few positions that rookies can make an early impact. The broad assessments leave plenty of space for us to be more optimistic or pessimistic based on our own assumptions.

Really appreciate your content brother. So there a TH-cam page named Adrian Sienko that has videos of every throw by the top 6 QB prospects. Its not in all-22 view so you cannot always see the coverage and the concepts the offense is running. I have watched Jayden Daniel's video now. It was long; one hours and thirty eight minutes. I plan to watch Drake Maye's, but I haven't watched it yet. Comparing my first take vs. what I was expecting based off Marcus's comments: 1. He threw to the middle of the field more than I was expecting. There is no doubt I noticed it more because Marcus said he didn't do it often. But watching the video you wouldn't feel he was avoiding any part of the field. 2. His deep ball which he kind of lofts was effective, but did benefit from having exceptional receivers who could get open. 3. He went through his reads more than I was expecting. 4. He generally was on time with is throws. 5. His pocket presence was decent, but there were times when he ran into a defender as the pocket closed. 6. He is an exceptional runner. Great acceleration and and change of direction. 7. Definitely lacks a big arm. 8. Doesn't put the ball in harms way all that that. PFF credited with 7 turnover worthy plays. He threw 40 TD's and 4 Interceptions. Two of his interceptions probably happened on plays that were not turnover worthy plays. He threw a pick against FSU on a hitch where the receiver fell down. And he threw another interception on a ball was deflected. 9. I thought his intermediate and deep accuracy were both good. I noticed the more bad throws on the short routes.

Washington fan. First time watcher. LOVED the breakdown and agreed with a large portion of what you said! THAT being said, I believe for the first time in a while that Washington can pull off an 9-10 win season if everything goes right. Can’t wait to come back to this in January 😬 lol
Welcome to the channel! If you think this deep dive is crazy just wait for the other 29 teams, the weekly power rankings, the studs and duds and the podcast this guy never slows down it’s nuts
Love the series Marcus. The totals in the overall add up to 102%, but I understand what you're going for. Also, a fun way to wrap up the series would be to wrap up the rankings with tiermaker with teams and be able to discuss preseason changes on why teams have jumped or slid heading into the regular season. Keep up the amazing content!
I actually think Washington has a good coaching staff on their hands. I know hot take. But Dan Quinn has been a great defensive coordinator lately and Kliff Kingsbury will make things easier for D.M. Washington will finally have what they have been missing for years a great defense.
Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. were the main coaches drawing the absolute best out of the players. There will be a marked drop-off in performance from the Cowboys this year and it's due to the loss of these two.
The best NFL content creator on any platform, and there are some great ones. Nobody even comes close to the amount of time and effort that Marcus puts in year in and year out. We all appreciate it.
It's TFG subscribers' Christmas!! Thank you for the work you put in each year, always such a treat. With the Commanders, I honestly think there's a world in which Jayden Daniels is going to benefit from having Kliff Kingsbury as his OC (never thought I would say that about a QB). He's obviously going to need to utilize the middle of the field to be worth his draft slot - A lot of that middle of the field stuff is going to be simpler reads with Kliff calling plays compared to a more pro-style offense, while also allowing him to move the chains with his speed. Just a glass half full perspective for Commanders fans, I dunno. So glad the series is back 🤘
Honestly wouldn’t have thought the broncos or pats would be at 32 but it’s hard to know this season cause a lot of teams have good qbs and weapons. Great content man love this series!

9. I thought his intermediate and deep accuracy were both good. I noticed the more bad throws on the short routes.
Love the new visual for the off-season changes - very easy to follow and love the „upgrade“/„downgrade“ aspect of it! Really excited for this series, like every year!
Great series that sets the stage for the new season! Can't wait for the Ravens breakdown later down the line.
Deep Dive !!!!! Best content of the summer. Thanks again, TFG for all the hard work and film study it takes to create this series
It's my favorite series. Thank you. Every year, you help me understand each team so much better.
These videos are amazing I used to listen to these and then fall asleep to the playlist last year I'm so excited to see it back! Thanks for making my long shifts more tolerable :)
Here’s to another year of Deep Dives!! Thank you Marcus for everything!!
HERE
WE
GO
good luck on the series this year! take care of yourself and don't die by the top ten!!!
A two hour video on a team that’s not your favorite. That is dedication.
About 62-64 hours of content over the summer is equally as nuts might get 3 hour deep dives as we get interviews for like the packers and Vikings
Best off-season series out there! I make sure to watch every one. Gotta appreciate the time and effort that goes into these.
Very casual take on Sam Howell
I think any qb is gonna struggle when they have constant pressure in their face 24/7
Not saying the OL was great but he invited A LOT of that pressure by holding the ball and walking into it.
@ThatFranchiseGuy Thats a fair assessment. I think putting him behind a better oline would fix that problem personally
@@MaadhatsOnTwitchit’s hard to say because he’s never had a good Oline even in college but I think he’s just to happy to get rid of it b4 going through progressions
BEST TIME OF THE YEAR! Thank you for giving us content to make it through the summer!🔥🐐
It’s that Magical Time of year!!!!! Let’s Go! Keep up the killer content Marcus.
I'm so happy it's already deep dive season! Nervous for the Rams lol Also...I'm very happy you're actually doing Special Teams this year. If you were REALLY serious...you'd rank Long Snappers lol
I really really need to see a 3-4 front with Allen/Payne/Newton as down linemen, Luvu and Chinn as overhang “edges,” and Wagner and Davis at true LB.
Don't know why but this makes this lull from draft to start of the season a bit more bearable
Every fantasy football gms favorite video series, Lfg
We are so back
Excellent work as always, Marcus. Stoked to see where MIN ends up.
Summer is here!!! My favorite series of yours
Automatic like every time. The best football content on TH-cam hands down ❤
This is my favorite TH-cam series all time
Washington fan.
Thanks! was just a typo for the description. I've got it at 100% in my spreadsheet 👍👍
cant overstate how much i appreciate this content
Dude hell yes! These deep dives are what made me subscribe to your channel in the first place. Can’t wait to see every team in this years’ rankings.
Favorite part of the offseason
Enjoyed these last year will most definitely be checking it out
Yeah I like the letter grades, as long as we still get the ranking range I'm all for it! Love the content as always!
Unreasonably hyped! I agree this is the best and most unique content you do. Really highlights everything you're great at as an analyst
The journey to September has begun!
The Deep Dives are back!!!!! LFG!!!! It’s always a good day when TFG posts!!!!
Smashed that like button. I can’t wait for this series no one has a series like this
Love this series, it’s what brought me to the channel in 2019. Keep up the good work Marcus!!
So blessed to have creators like you!
Favorite part of the offseason. Thanks for the great content Marcus!
My favorite series is back. Can't wait for more
i’m a commanders fan and i think we’ll be somewhat competitive this year (probably 6-8 wins), all depends on jayden though obviously
Thank you for yet another offseason of the best football analysis series there is. Cheers
So hyped for this series to be back!
Let’s begin!
My favorite series on TH-cam!
Best series on yt is back!
Love these! I had so much anticipation for this series that I’ve been watching my last years 😂
The best series on TH-cam is back! Let's goooo
Ohhhh boy, my favorite time of year is here again. Christmas in the summer, for sure ! I know this is a ton of work, but it's appreciated !
WE ARE SO BACK
The best NFL content creator on any platform, and there are some great ones. Nobody even comes close to the amount of time and effort that Marcus puts in year in and year out. We all appreciate it.
Had to come listen to that Jayden Daniels rundown again
LETS GO DEEP DIVES ARE BACK - btw WAS at #32 is quite the bold move
MY FAVORITE SERIES ON TH-cam
Thank you for filling out the summer with this top notch series while nothing else is going on. Been watching for years and always look forward to it.
Just got out of BMT, I have a lot of catching up to do. Here's to another amazing deep dive season. 🔥🔥
Just in time to listen on my commute home. The best part of the off-season has begun
Some of the best content out there especially for free keep up the great work
FAVORITE SERIES HERE WE GO
Instant like and comment. The amount of work and analysis is impressive and always appreciated. Love the little tweaks and refinements you make every year, just keeps getting better and better.
