@@listenup9940 Here's a better question: why take your dog for a ride in the car with you if you're just going to leave it in the car? Why not just leave it at home?
Thanks for sharing this! The more people who are aware the better. So happy for that community to have great citizens to step up and care for animals that are not theirs, and to donate the temp. guages.
OK, you people, if you're so sure - let's see you leave your kids in the car under the same conditions. Hot is hot, whether it's 110 or 160, it's still inhumane and unsafe for any creature.
I always leave the AC on for my dog when I run into the store. That's why you need to have 2 sets of keys on you at all times. Even a cool 73F outside can turn into 90F+ inside a closed car in a short period of time. EDIT: I own a '74 Chevy Nova. No key fob to lock/unlock the doors or open the trunk.
Its kinda sad seeing people questioning where the cop pointed the dash or more, rather than care for a dog in a hot car...I really hope none of you are the type of people to do this in the summer time with their dogs...
No one is saying it is ok to leave a dog in a hot car. But the reason for the debate in these cases, is because neither of those dogs were even panting?! Neither looked hot. All very strange. I have seen videos of heat stressed dogs taken from cars before and its horrible!! They dont look relaxed like this. So people are just questioning if the cars were actually hot at all, in these two particular cases.
Also forgot to mention home depot actually allows animals like dogs in the store. I did this research when I got my pom and was gonna take him with me. Also I would take my golden with me when I went. So these ladies could have brought in their dogs.
Temps should always be taken from the center line of the vehicle at about seat height. That would be the most accurate temp reading... Not the dash, not the floor, not through the closed window (as you may get the temp of the dark glass and not the temp of the interior) I still don't like seeing dogs kept inside of a closed up vehicle. There are companies out there that make window screen/mesh inserts that allow you to open your window over half way and still help keep people's hands out of your vehicle while keeping your pets contained.
I've called the cops on people before. I used to live in southern Arizona and in the summer it can easily get to 120 degrees outside the car. I used to live by the freeway and there was an RV parked at the gas station when I went by to go run some errands that had a dog panting in the front seat. As far as I could tell the RV wasn't running but it's a gas station so I figured the owners can't possibly take longer than 5 minutes inside. I came back like an hour later and that same RV was still sitting there and so I called the police. People, seriously, don't leave your animals, children, or elderly in a car on a hot day. Have you ever sat in a car that's been sitting in the sun for too long? How it feels like the air inside is trying to burn off your skin? Now imagine that feeling happening for longer than it takes you to get the keys in the ignition and get windows rolled down/AC blowing. If you can't handle it, an animal covered in fur definitely can't.
She said she was in the store for only a minute ? Yeah right !! People that leave their pets in hot cars need to be prosecuted.. And not just a slap on the wrist either !! The penalties aren't stiff enough, I'm sorry but after the first time that they are caught ,they should be banned from owning any pets. PERIOD !!!!!
they should be fined, but moreso, they should suffer the same treatment, next time a hot day comes around they should be locked in a car for the same amount of time as their dog was.
I know some people in these comments id like to experiment with ,like hand on a hot burner water torture in a toilet cause im an expert . The only pets you should have are pictures.
Yes... I also will smash a window out if I see any pet suffering in a hot car. No time to wait on a cop to show up! They could die by the time they arrive!
You know, there are a lot of bad cops out there, and here these men are getting ridiculed for taking care of animal abuse in any form. On top of that, the people that left their dogs in the car even lie about how long they were in the store because they know it was wrong, and the cops are being shamed? Go sit in your car with a fur coat on in a 90 degree day with 40% humidity, even have a full window open and see how you feel. I'm not dismissing that he read the temperature from the dashboard, but a 90 degree day, in a box, under full sun on a calm day (read: a gentle breeze will make NO difference on your body temperature) is animal abuse. Or leave your child in the car if it's so okay to you.
I paused the video to convert the temp from fahrenheit to celsius and wow my jaw dropped. So pleased they helped this pup.
what makes this even crazier is Home Depot is a pet friendly store.... the dogs could have come in.
Wow that does make it more rediculous!! Why leave it in the car then??

Literally NOBODY is arguing in favor of leaving dogs in a hot car. What are you smoking?
I am amazed at how stupid people can be.

Or you know you can leave your dog at home in the shade. Just incase your car dies and your dogs fry alive.
Some new cars won't lock with a fob inside the car. It's nuts
