Yep, those old northeastern neighborhoods. Could be in any number of cities. They all have that well-worn look of post industrial revolution power followed by stagnation and then decline, yet if only those streets and brick buildings, storefronts, and multistory homes could talk. Great video, though, that encourages some of us to fill in the details ourselves from our imagination and others may delve deeper into the dramatic still hidden narratives that seem to cry out to be told, heard, and maybe even to be applauded.

This is my home bro! That whole area is filled with fellow guatemalans, Dominicans, Puerto ricans and cambodians! Most of these stores you see in the video are well known here quite obviously and I'll point out a few new details about them!
    1. At 1:39 you can see this yellow sign sayin something bout seafood or sumn, yeah now that's turning into a market! Theres a sad story behind It tho, a Cambodian man who used to be a landlord and business owner went bankrup. there, he used to have a small restaurant (now replaced by the market) and went well..like I said, bankrupt, he lost all his houses and lost that restaurant, forever to be forgotten by many :( .
    2. At 2:31 you can see a small bodega called "Gemma's market" the owner of the place is a man named...idk I forgot his name but I knew his son for a while! He also now owns the ice cream place you see at the time stamp 2:10 , to which the previous owner handed it to him, great renovations hes making to the place I tell ya!
    3. At 4:31 you can see this little shop ca "botica anaisa" which honestly has nothing but candles! :3 I never went inside it before but it's based off of catholic/Christian faith :3
    4. At 9:06 you can see a building with a logo of some sort ahead and to the right is some sort of school/community center, but onto the building ahead of that with the logo on it, that is the hells Angel's place type of thing , I havent done enough research on hells Angel's but they are some biker gang as much as I know!
    5. 9:21 - 10:11 are places were I knew people were harmed or killed/shot to death. :( pay respects!
    6. 10:11 ahead there are three places, a barber shop, Rita's pizza and fabians liquor store, usually filled with dominicans or Puerto Ricans, m a n y o f t h e m, to the right is a brick building, that's also a small restaurant called... pitos!, now I barely know anything about these places but I can say, they are well managed :3
    7. 12:21 - 12:37 welcome to musty HQ where this fuckin road stinks A L O T like dear god its filled with nasty smells you could never forget, trash broken glass cigs you name it!

i grew up in this area in the 1960's. The Armory straight ahead is my old neighborhood. Wood Street! Gemma's Market was there back then, though I imagine it's changed hands a number of times. Bucklin and Dexter Streets where the Virginia Spanish Peanut Company was. Wendell street, the brick building with the green door was the Coken Company. They made all the street signs there. Messer Street School was my elementary school. The Orange building in front of the fire station was a fish and chips store. West Elmwood was a rough part of town even back then, but it looked a lot better back in the day.

Man we got a mayor that defunded the police and put a no bail needed policy. It's pretty stupid here past two years. Small city. 180,000 people, but we saw 23 homicides this year. That's like 14 per capita, Chicago is 20 per capita. RI itself is 3 per capita. Providence is responsible for more than half the State's homicide this year with a population of 1.1 million.
One thing I'll say is, the city keeps itself clean. All the public housing look like mini condos with fresh cut grass. But the people as a whole, it's pretty ghetto. Been in Providence for too long, looking to move out by next month. Tired of the crap.

what part of providence is this? the worst looking parts I've actually seen are: the west end (basically Cranston street and the blocks off either side of it), or central falls. lots of bandos.
I believe the west end had a lot of the bandos either redone, rebuilt, or knocked down in the past few years. in 2010 it was terrible. so many boarded up buildings, like Baltimore.
I think central falls is still pretty messed up for the most part, but everywhere in the country has improved looks-wise it seems.

    • @BlackDad-penitentiary
      @BlackDad-penitentiary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The first part is Cranston street aka west end. I lived on Hanover as a kid. It was too violent so my parents moved. This was during the 80s. Providence is relatively clean because unlike other cities, there's no turf wars so you don't get the graffiti and trap houses. You could be living next door to a rival. City is that small and congested.

That would be an interesting video. Fox Point was the worst part of Providence back in the day, but is mostly gentrified now.

Because of defund police. No new hiring or OT for Providence police. Mayor slowly turned it into a warzone. We saw 10 more homicides compared to 2019. That's a lot for a city of 180,000. That puts Providence at 14 homicides per capita. That's 2.5 times higher than the national average. At one stretch during the summer, we had more shootings per capita than Chicago.

Say that to my brother who was jumped for no reason on my street on inkerman street. It's unfortunately ghetto and gang tags everywhere, even in my own driveway. Ghetto ass gang bangers in dark hoodies at night but pussies in the day.

@@befree4052 @Be Free yeah bro I didn't say cranston st. - Walk around Chad brown neighborhood off douglas at night and anywhere in between there and chalkstone ave and then get back to me. It's no detroit or anything, I'll give it that. Providence is a nice place, just has it's issue locations and places you shouldn't be at night like any big city.
